Much thanks K, I already play this against the sicilian so it should be an easy conversion. If I remember corectly Spassky has some nice games of 2.b3 against the sicilian. Cheers.
Please put that game in the notes of this video (as suggested by you) with 2. ...c5. I would be interested in that. I would check it up myself of course, I just can't hear clearly what you're saying :)
These gambit systems are really nice. It would be nice to see more of them. Some sort of a Gambit Guide like on the ICC xD. But ur explanation is much better ofcourse. Keep up the good work.
It's a fun opening system to play. I've actually played it against the scandinavian successfully several times. That is with a3 - g5 - g5. So an extra pawn move was needed because blacks bishop was outside of the pawn chain on f5.
thanks for the upload kc. i play a lot of online chess and i've been looking for something interesting to play against the french defence because i dont like it as white. good job
Thanks. I really like your videos. I play the Reti Gambit some.
Sometimes I find myself in bad positions. This oftens happens after 2... N-KB3 or 2... P-QN3 when black goes into a a QID or Nimzo Indian type of structure. Sometimes after 2...N-KB3 I will kick the knight like in a Alekhine's defense and I have gotten in trouble with dark square weaknesses on the queen side.
If black does not play 2...P-Q4 I get in positions where b3 does not work well with e4.
after you fianchetto your bishop (in the very beginning), he can push up his pawn, blocking the bishops path. The pawn is protected by the queen, so there's nothing much you can do about it.. No?
Hey KC, great video as usual. One question: if I were black, after 1e4 e6 2b3 d5 3 Bb2, I would not capture on e4 but play b6, with the idea Bb7 and later maybe Qd7, Nc6 and castle queenside. How would you solve the central tension as White? Pawn exchange gives nothing, and advance troubles your bishop..thx in advance!
wow, I actually figured this move out by myself a while ago. I wondered if this was an actual move. I never thought about playing it as a gambit though. very interesting.
also, i like your vocabulary. it keeps this video lively.
Nice one KC, this is a refreshing change from the boring lines of the french. I will definitely be studying this opening, it will be useful in blitz games.
Because it looks so strange, French players overstrech themselves to gain an advantage but it is completely solid and not many players will find this move in many books at all. I have beaten 163 ecf and a 175 ecf player with this line and both had good knowledge of French structures and the wing and Reti gambits. I think its called the Chigorin opening since he has loads of games on 2QE2 on chessgames and other databases.
Good video Tryfon, probably the best recommendation so far. The French now seems to be the most popular choice of opening for black players, at least in my area anyway. I would like to recommend to players another strange weapon against the French which I use with success. After 1E4 E6 2QE2?! its based on not allowing 2D5 and trying to force the game into a closed sicilian after 2C5 3D3 and later developing in a closed sicilian manner where the queen is a little oddly placed. That was an Interesting video!
If this is so powerful, how come it is rarely (if not ever ) played in long games??
Yes, it's interesting for speed games... as long as they don't know the strategic points of it..

Thanks for this. I'm a club player, and I see the French nearly every month. I'll try this system next time.

Thx great idea to get away from the main lines in french.
It also seems to work well vs. CaroKann-players.

Great opening, played against this rather weak1754 player, and he actually resigned after just 14 moves! Great vids.

Re1 is indeed a lethal blow. What did you *actually* play OTB?
i would have gone for Bxe6 and after Rxe6 then simply Rd8.
what was your choice? thx 4 the video
