@DesertRaining You didn't hear her saying that her mum made it once a year? I'd rather have this once in a very while than munching on "healthy" snacks that taste like bales of hay! Everything in moderation works best!
Also, I made this today and it is out of this world :)
its nice bread pakoras but mam i am also from punjab and we are stuffing the breads with boiled masaaledar potatoes. its really very tasty nut anyhow, i will now try it also b'coz its looking very tasty and wonderful.. thanks for ur all recepies, i really enjoy it... gud luck...,m.

Looks tasty, will definitely try my hands at this. One question though, is there a difference between chaat masala and garam masala? Would I be able to use either/or (if there is a difference). Thanks for sharing the recipe :)
Chat Masala (CM) and Garam Masala (GM) are different in flavor and used differently.
CM is used over your food and does not need to be cooked. It is salty as it has a lot of different types of salts in it. Mostly used in chat items.
GM is mostly whole spices ground and used in foods to add to the spice level of the dish. One can't be replace with another and bot are awesome. We have a video on how to make basic Garam Masala. Check out our youtube channel or our website.
This recipe reminds me of a Monte Cristo Sandwich, which I just recently learned to make. You might consider putting a Monte Cristo sandwich on your fusion page. I can't think of how to "Indianize it",unless you wanted to put a little bit of Besan, with maybe some cumin powder and chilie powder in the batter. But it would still be a good video (and quick) to do as is..
if you dont like the ketchup you could even use maggi hot and sweet sauce and also, my mom makes these a lot and she uses dried out french bread (not when you first get it but when its totally dry and super hard and unchewable lol-i know this sounds gross but it just takes a day to dry out so its not big deal). just coat in the besan paste and fry. they turn out great and are not super soggy either!
Uh... The tomato originated from Mexico. No tomatoes in Europe or Asia prior to Columbus.
Thus ANY recipe or curry with tomatos, Murgh Makhani, the Punjabi masala, etc are "Westernized".
Same goes for chilies, and bell peppers. Same for the potato These vegetables are from Central and South America. Thus any dish with these (and it appears that EVERY dish contains chilies), Methi Aloo, Masala Dosa (which uses potato masala) etc, are by your definition "Westernized"
Uh... Mexico may be in North America, but it's not a Western country! The Indian dishes you have named aren't Westernized as it wasn't introduced by Europeans. There are many species of fruit and vegetable that were originated in the Indian subcontinent, such as the naga jolokia - a chilli. So no, not every dish with chillies are South American or what you incorrectly call "Westernized".
The chili pepper originated in Mexico. While there may be cultivars and hybrids that may have developed elsewhere, without the discovery of America and the dispersal of chillis, tomatos, bell peppers, potatoes, etc throughout the world, those ingredients would not be available. Who cares about whether a dish was introduced by Europeans or not? Without the Europeans exploring the New World, those ingredients would not be available for Indians to experiment with.
@EliteXtasy what about "vindaloo'.? Do you even know where the name "vindaloo" comes from? The first syllable comes from the Portuguese word for wine "vino", because this dish was created in the Portuguese port of Goa.
@beachkrp I'm already aware that Vindaloo is a dish invented during the Portuguese rule of South India. That doesn't necessarily mean that it was made by a Portuguese person nor was Portuguese-inspired (clearly not). I haven't yet come across a South Asian person who eats Vindaloo. Chicken Tikka Masala is a British dish invented in the UK by Indian-born chefs.
that sucked looked good. I've never tasted a bread pakoda with a filling of chutney and tomato ketchup. We normally make bread pakoda with just the batter coating and fried. Though it's so heavy because of the besan and bread taking up so much of the oil, it tastes amazing. But sometimes all i taste it the oil and that sucks, so maybe this defeats the purpose of the bread PAKODHA but i wring out the oil with a paper towel. I hope I get to eat this on a non exam week also.
yeah this can be fixed if you use french bread (check the post I just did with my mom's recipe). that helps so much in regards to the oiliness of the dish
some unhealthy things just don't taste with a healthy bread, the white bread is necessary no? it'll be nice to try it with whole wheat bread though, but it may not taste as good. Good job ladies
It must be so oily as bread absorbs a lot of oil....not a very healthy snack for me
DesertRaining 5 months ago
@DesertRaining : The bread has a coating of chickpea flour on it so the bread does not absorb the oil.

Yes, you can do without it. But we are pretty sure if you go to some Indian/ South Asian stores you will find it.

Why not cut it into 4 before frying them ? They'll not only be less bulky but will also be surrounded on all sides by the batter.

Ketchup??? Many of your recipes are too Westernized!

na... you can also use tomato sauce (indianised) they have used ketchup for simplicity... only otherwise both of them taste good..

Interesting recipe but I wish that you had used a healthier bread than white fluff sandwich bread. How about using a nice dark whole grain bread?

looks delicious, but it must be a little oily, the bread absorbs alot of oil.

Actually, it is as oily as any pakoda, no more. The bread is coated with the besan (chick pea flour batter) so the oil never reaches the bread.
