I agree that Paul sounded EXCELLENT on this. I can soooo picture David singing on this instead though. And the times where you can tell Paul was kinda holding back (I guess cuz he just wanted to be safe. He is a low baritone after all), I'm sure David would've done his power barks as I'd call em lol. This song works for Paul overall though so I'm with the general consensus on that. And yes, he should've shined man! He kept complaining about it little by little and he never got his chance.

The key is a bit too high for Paul in this song, it's in a tenor range. They should have either dropped the key or let David or Eddie sang it to be frank.

um Levi of The Four Tops was also a baritone and for the most part the songs he sang was in a tenor range. Paul did an excellent job on this

Well, Levi is Levi and David is David. Most singers couldn't sing a whole song above their natural register without sounding strained. David could get away with it b/c his voice was naturally raspy and Levi had that unique tonal hiccup. I think Paul was at his best when he sung songs straight. He enunciated his words beautifully and sung with a lot of emotional, he didn't need this technique of trying to sing higher than was natural to have the same effect.

@0812820 Having been a singer myself forever, the best way to emote in a song is to push yourself to the limits of your vocal range just as Paul did with this one. Had he sung where he was comfortable the color of the song would have been altered and it would not have had the same feeling.

Paul was one of the all time greats, i wish he would of had more time to shine. I think he also would have been a powerhouse of a solo artist with the likes of Otis Redding and Jackie Wilson etc.
