  • Chuck Norris wants his gun back.

  • @Spike20TRILLION Bofors did manufacture a 120 mm naval gun capable of 40 rounds per minute. Far from 220/min, but still pretty good.

  • 0:42 My friend's uncle trying to get back from Mexico to help his family

  • croatian navy use those

  • HOLY SHIT!! i want to mount one on my car! bahahaha i wish!! why cant they give us weapons like this :(

  • MADE IN SWEDEN! sigh "made in usa" usa cant make anything sophisticated, they buy all with bLOoDoil money...

  • @88Phobos Big deal, try an A-10 warthog,we buy your guns because we feel sorry for you,we throw you some change.

  • @davetileguy Yeah we shit on you'r warthogs with our Gripen

  • @BlackTiger112 How many of those do you have? 5? LOL

  • @davetileguy No actually 166 active units. Why should they need more?

  • @BlackTiger112 Oh my bad,now I'm scared,I've got to go call my mommy! LOL!

  • @davetileguy Wtf? Answer my question instead xD

  • it seems that the americans are stealing some tech for sweden once more

  • @theunknownunit If by "stealing" you mean "buying".

  • 0:31

  • 19 inch main batteries all the way, nothing less.

  • omfg the brass that things spittin outs huge!

  • Swedish epicness in 57mm form

  • i gotta get one for me

  • amazing gun...they have been in use on the Canadian Halifax class frigates since the 1990 or so. Its crazy to see a deck gun fire so fast....catches you off guard..lol

  • @Trruckker I would hate to be on the receiving end of one, the results of which were demonstrated when we sunk HMCS Huron

Extreme subsystem damage was caused by the 57mm 3P shells (incase your wondering, 3P stands for Prefragmented, Programmable, Proximity fuzed ammunition) and it is designed to cause casualties of crew, command and control systems, and weapons systems. It works very well against incomming high speed air threats, and even personal watercraft sized attackers, or ships!!

  • Superb gun like all the Bofors designs, the RN should have adopted it years ago.

  • that gun has one set of ammo ready to switch instantly, it can switch between different ammo like he and airburst instantly. also its very fast. beautiful gun

  • Swedish gun :D

  • I saw this type gun on the new LCS ships and thought it must really be bad assed because it seems small. 220 rounds a min at a range of up to 9 miles is pretty radical. Thanks for posting!

  • I wonder how many muslims that would kill?

  • NOT MANY lol

  • not enough

  • Blowing up shit....one fragment at a time!

  • if im under fire or under threat from an armed enemy i want the best u can fit on that boat and i think that son bitch will do just fine

  • They forgot to add that Bofors is from Sweden =)

  • Yupp!

    Sure can make good weapons!

  • @fogsvans2 Right and right again. Bofor is swedish, and it hurts the americans that such an outstanding waepon is not designed by them.

  • @tompouceful Big deal, try an A-10 warthog,we buy your guns because we feel sorry for you,we throw you some change.

  • @fogsvans2 So is the 3P round that it uses ;)

  • how much is it?

  • reminds me of the 57mm AT gun used in world war II, but a thousand times better

  • i told you not to surf in the swimming area

  • On a coast guard ship? Necessary.

     :)

  • Cool. i want one.

  • This is an awesome weapon, despite its seemingly small bore size, bear in mind the projectiles are made of Tungsten, and are programable for a variety of tasks.

The Mk110 is also to be Deck Gun of US Navy's new Littoral Combat Ships the first of which, was just delivered by Austal of Mobile Alabama

  • what? i swear the coast guard save lives... its not like 'quick a distress flare shoot it!!!!'

  • They don't always sav lives, they're also to protect the coast from emenies of state. Geez does anyone know anything these days?!?

  • well actually im from the UK so i dont have a clue what goes on in america

  • hahaha thats frikin funny

  • Canadian, Halifax class frigates are also equipped with these.

  • This seems more like something for naval warships in warzones, not the USCG.

It's not like Canada or Mexico is going to start attacking the US ports.

Honestly, what kind of situation would they need something like this?

A .50 calibre machine gun could tear through most anything attacking you. WWII fighter planes took out whole battle ships with .50 machine guns.

    Do they really need this?

  • The current USCG 378 foot High Endurance Cutters are armed with one 3 inch (75 mm approx.), two 25 mm and one 20 mm guns. Going to a 57 mm gun would be a downgrade, if you were comparing max bore size.

The USCG has a deep water mission which requires greater firepower than you would limit them to. They are serving in the Persian Gulf now and were in combat during Viet Nam.

  • Its Not a downgrade. Trust me. I worked on the construction of USCGC Bergthoff

our newest Nat'l Security Cutter, and its main armament is Mk110 57mm

The Navy is so impressed with this weapon it is also the be the main Armament of the new Littoral Combat Ships.

  • @bwhip The range of shells this thing can fire, make it vastly superior than a 75mm, or 76mm OTO Melara which is actually mounted

For a WW2 style direct fire use, where Armor Piercing rounds would be used, surely the difference in bore would probably make the 76 more favourable than the 57mm

But do you have any clue what 10 seconds of firing 3P at an Arleigh Burke would do to its combat systems and crew members? The ship would float, but inside would be computer carnage and a blood bath

  • @bwhip You still need missiles for longer ranges. No one would actually use a 75 mm gun at maximum range. A 57 mm is just meant as an all around weapon system, you would have to be pretty dumb to use this weapon in all out war against an equal opponent.

  • haha are you joking ofcourse they do!! Do you know how many druggies attempt to take down Coast Guard boats each year?

    a LOT!

and a situation that they would need something like this is during an invasion on any of America's coasts, not to mention the fact that druggie submersibles literally take day trips to America all the time...

  • Did I say "no one ever attacks the USCG"? No, I didn't. Read comments twice before replying.

My point is that this 57mm cannon looks like overkill.

Are you saying that the "druggies" use similar canons to attack the USCG?

Are you saying that a .50 machine gun would be insufficient?

  • maybe you should read comments over twice because i didnt say the a .50 machine gun would be insufficient, and other than that the druggies are lethal as hell, those guns could just barely rip through a druggie submersable, and no im not saying the "druggies" use similar cannons to attack the USCG im saying that the druggies use all kinds of techniques and strategies to get past the coast guard.....who knows whats next

  • This would really make one hell of a mess of some pirate boats. Not to mention some illegal immigrants! =P

    Kill = Good

    Overkill = Better

  • If you point a .50 at them, they might think they have a chance and try. If you piont a 57mm on them they will think they are screwed and give up before a single shoot has been fired.

    So, in effect saving lifes...

  • I didnt know Bofors was still making guns.

  • Why stop if you are the best? They are still making guns in Sweden, but the company is now owned by BAe.

  • What will really blow your minds is the unmanned F-22 being released soon

  • If I dont understand it wrong the best programming making a total functioning system is mostly developed by swedish engineers. We the swedes use to play with your american planes in combat excercises in both europe and usa. Usa most often talk about what their systems will be able of, when they are ready, but they never show it. Probably its foreign engineers and scientists to make your stuff work at last.

  • coll thet sweden is world leading in weapon teck!

  • looks like a fucking peashooter, this is for rubber dingy's i bet.

  • Actually, 57 mm is plenty enough firepower to perform its intended mission. I.E. shooting down missiles, air planes and assorted small craft.

  • Pea shooter.....search MK 110 gun system on you tube and watch the air burst!

  • you name one gay man and that tells you that we have too many gays?

  • Freak: du far lara dig lasa: jag skrev:

"a Jonas Gardell TYPE of bitch country (hoo hoo hoo) ..."

du ar val inte fjola som Jonas oxa ? haha

  • one gay too much

  • I must say i agree with the FACT that we (Sverige) has too many gays ( Bögjävlar ), but they are mostly located in Stockholm / Uppsala / Gotland & Carlskrona... where i live on the other hand "Piteå" (Great town) there is a kind of mutual Anti-NEGER / Anti-gay feeling.

  • too many lapps & penguins in Piteå :P

  • you are the a-holes that keep flying over my house?

  • you can always tell a bofor gun.

  • Riverine PBs w/57 mm Bofors guns for the rio Grande River now!

  • haha!

  • i want one..

    lol

  • Cool. That small boat got toasted. Imagine Mexican drug runners in there..

  • stupid

  • i wonder if i can mount this on my roof, haahahah

  • german 88mm flak/pak model 1936 was a very good anti tank gun but the bofors 40mm was a far more effective aa gun,as was the vickers 3.7".

  • Ah not so fast. The best anti tank weapon in ww2 was the 88mm PAK44. best anti aircraft was the dual german 40mm aa gun i dont really know the name but it was a copy of the bofors 40mm.

  • pak/flak44 not in service until 1944,17pdr firing apds(aug 1944) had similar performance,Russian 122mm as used on js2 also,German aa gun you refer to was 37mm not 40mm very similar to bofors 40mm but not available until about 1942/1943,bofors 40mm on open market 1933.

  • @JSLegoMaster

The german wehermacht had Bofors 40 mm AA cannons due the WWII.

  • @satanihelvetet So did the British.

  • bofors 40mm was the best aa gun of ww2 this looks like a great gun for the 21st century.

  • *cough*cough* German Flak-88 *cough*

  • Gunslinger, you can't compare the 40mm to the 88mm. The 40mm Bofors was an automatic-canon which had an open magazine on the top which made it easy and fast to reload.

The 88mm had to be reloaded after every single shot which really could/can be a mess when you're in a fight and in serious stress.

  • He said it was the best AA gun in WW2. It clearly wasn't, the 88mm can take down a B-17 with 1 direct hit, fire to a much higher altitude, and easily doubles as the largest anti-tank gun in the war. The open feeding system is nice, but a single 88mm round can stop any vehicle.

  • bofors, sweden, värmland ... LOVE THE CANNONS !!!

  • bofors, fukk yeah!

  • can 155 fire rapid burst?

  • Define rapid and burst.

A Swedish FH77B 155mm howitzer fire four rounds in 18 seconds in this clip: watch?v=t6M4sBrBgQU

And the old disbanded Bandkanon 1C could fire its clip of 14+1 rounds in 45 seconds...

    (1:11 into this video: watch?v=TghilV9XGVg)

  • you mean minute, 18 round per minute...

And no, you are wrong, FH77B 155mm can fire 6-8 rounds per minute, also FH77B is a artillery gun, not a naval gun, two different things...

  • Nooo.... Watch the video. The first round is fired at 0:03, the second at 0:08, the third at 0:15 and the fourth at 0:21. 21-3=18. The question I answered asked if 155mm could fire rapid burst.

The 6-8 rounds per minute are the sustained fire.

For naval guns we have to go down to 120mm, there we have the Bofors TAK 120 L/50 -93 with a ROF of 70 rounds/min (25r/min sustained), Range 21,000+ m, Elevation +78 / -10 degrees.

  • thats a swedish gun <3

  • our swede ship carlscrona made a journey to australia. They put up a testexcercise. They let us be the first to shoot at the target that was erhaps motorisëd or driven in some way. The first shot took it out so the hole ecercise had to be abandond. No shoting for the aussies!

  • Greenspan wasn't and isn't senile. Mr. Bush and his entourage had its own damn agendas.

The USA has been in decline in many aspects since the 60s. Capitalism is a double-edged sword. Our heavy industries abandoned us for cheaper labor and we let suburban sprawl get way out of hand, which put us in many predicaments today. Our economy is essentially 'hallow' now and many of us are waiting for the fall. Many European and Asian countries are great contenders for 'the next wave of superpowers.' :D

  • Here in sweden Ericsson consider it better to join the chinese than to fight them. Ericsson also was conqured by sony after a mobile industrie in new mexico was in fire. They said it was a good teamwork helping ericsson . Our head chief is now a japanese calling the company only Sony. Anyway there electronics whas and is inferior to the swede technical knowledge. Both china and india also cooperating with us because our system tech knowledge is way better than their own. soon they know do it.

  • here in europe our politicians mostly taken in muslims who is prospering and giving no upgoing for tech knowledge and economy. We will decline and be in the hands of our asian friends. They let you prosper going to their land if you are an expert etc, not taking in people as our stupid politicians have done for 40 years. halfcriminals and analfabets!at least to much. they also take in 1 percent every year in sweden. The politicians are just waiting for it to go under...

  • I think the otto melara 76.2 is a better gun especially in ships with a displacement larger than 300t. That's because the 57mm round hasn't got large effective range and cannot receive advance munitions.

  • In fact you can see a 76.2 cupola in the background of the video...

  • Yea you are right. If you want to blast something out of the water, take an otto melara!

  • "and cannot receive advance munitions"

HAHAHAHAHA! The Bofors programmable '3P' rounds are available for both 40mm and 57mm and are by far the best rounds available today.

  • They have programmable fuse, but they do not deploy fins for stabilization and don't have a GPS controlled flight advance naval ordnance have, this is what i meant. Boffors are the best in their caliber but heaver guns have more punch

  • You mean something like the 155mm BOFORS Excalibur? =)

  • Actually yea...

  • Lol someone found my blog by clicking the links tab then my R2K link in the list : )

  • Gata love the Coast Guard to

  • This Bofors gun kicked ass during trials in the US...

  • True the NASA technology and also the space technology of the soviets is based on the knowledge of german scientists like Wernher von Braun who were brought to the USA and the Soviet Union after WW2. The V2 was the first rocket which achieved sub-orbital spaceflight.

Lots of stuff u regard as US invention was developed in europe or somewhere else^^

  • I've seen a number of military shipments from Sweden to Virginia for "testing" purposes. The U.S. is constantly evaluating selected weaponry from allied nations.

  • hehe i think that will leave a dent if you get hit by it. or it will hurt. looks like a pea shooter compared to other guns on ships but it will probably own em 0.o

  • bigger weapons are designed for artillery style attacks, or anti-ship attacks, this is specifically designed for anti-aircraft rols.

  • @Ehal256

Not really, it has a multi role task.

  • Some people voted ctcraam down because they thought he was criticizing the gun, but from you last line he appears to actually be impressed with it. He is correct that this gun would own most ships. Modern navy ships have little to no armour, so this thing would shread them in seconds. The problem would be getting into range - then again the same could be said about a 5' gun vs surface to surface missiles

  • (When it said United it could of meant United Nations dumbasses)

  • LOL this SWEDISH gun is already in use with many navies. isnt it funny how americans are always the last to realize what technology is actually good, then they try and say they invented it hahaha! canada has used this superior (ASuW, AAW) weapons platform for about a decade and its going through a whole slew of upgrades and modifications to make it even more effective! i love how they try and call it the M110 Mod-0 haha its ACTUALLY called, "BOFORS 57mm 70-calibre Naval Gun" officially.

  • Don't forget the two rovers zipping around on Mars AS WE SPEAK. (I do like their pancakes though.)

  • The moon rocket was constructed by german engineers that migrated to the US after WW2.

Space exploration has always been a quite international effort. Normal people do not care where something comes from, as long as it works. Why should you?

  • model1862henry-

yeah but it was the brits and bae that perfected it not us with the u.s.

and the germans got the technology from britain many years before by a man called goodard/godard and his ideas and technology was chucked out by the government so he went to germany.

  • which is why when usa captured and interrigated german scientists/engineers

about the technology they said "you need to speak to the british"

    they also had saucer technology.

usa deffence is run by uk through bae systems.

  • You are correct.

  • absolutely, my brother works for BAE

  • Von Braun was American then was he? we had to perfect the rockets my arse.

  • No he wasn't it. He worked for germany in the early years of WWII.

  • I was being sarcastic

  • Bofors, owned by Bae, a british company. We do war better.

  • All sales are controlled by the swedish goverment.

  • All sales of any arms, by any country, have to be ok'd by the countries government. This is to stop companys selling to North korea and zimbabwe.

  • Lol zimbabwe.

  • Saying that bofors is brittish is like saying that Rolls Royce is german. Bofors is SWEDISH. Remember that. this gun is SWEDISH, it was made by Swedes, so stop talking imperialist shit talk.

  • Ok thanks for making a good gun and making money for a British company. You do the donkey work we'll pick up the pay check. (Imperialist? No. I'm a Capitalist) And by the way Rolls Royce (engines) is still British. (only the Car manufacturer was sold and this was a tiny part of RR)

  • Im a proud swede , but i dont like the swedes sell out everything of worth. Its because we have traitors within in mass. called vd´s etcetera they sell out our countrey and all our tech development. Sweden is a land sinking...

  • I had the same feeling about Britain, but i was surprised, by how many british companys are doing well. Sweden is a rich company, like all european countries manufacturing is going east.... Our countries survive now by selling technology and services. Its just evolution of trade. Eventually manufacturing will be almost all based in africa because of cheap labour. labour cost in china are rising fast, and inflation last year was at 14%. Africa is the last great cheap workforce..mark my words

  • Should read "Sweden is a rich country" Sorry!!!!

  • China take over our tech after we have given them the the "fishing gears" , industries. Then we become gradually weaker. Its the chinese nowadays expanding fast in africa. The africans dislike us to much. They learn them how to work with chinese salarys... getting slaved again...Soon china will be nr one. Usa jabbering about democracy invading oilrich countrys in mass. The american way of living isnt negotiable...

  • We sell out our best companys to americans, britain and germany etc. Our tech companies have the latest 30 years been afraid of not being able to have the intelligens to develop into the future without big friends. At almost every area it later been shown we wére the ones who made the best solutions in in those areas instead of the foreigners with much better resources. We selled out every flagship there is; in farmaceufticals, telecom, electric power, car and trucks, military;grats britts!

  • Interesting. Your point on USA is something i agree with. I have no doubt that USA is going to be no longer the "biggest" Country. It will be interesting to see how they take losing their financial empire. All nations have moments of greatness, all return to the norm. Will their national character take being 2nd to china?

  • THey have no choice, but they will perhaps prosper a while because of military might before the empire lose to much economicly... even if they steel every oilwell in the world! HAHA. Alan Greenspan said it was for the oil they invaded iraq. The athoroties said he was senile!

  • Manufacturing will never be based in Africa as Africans are incapable of functioning in such an advanced mechanism. Also, there will be too few Africans left by then to provide an adequate workforce.

After China and India have moved away from manufacturing it will be profitable to have robots do all the work.

  • At :38 sec you can see the rounds flying through the air.

  • It's built by Bofors!!!! it's swedish!!! damn you yankies think that you create everything!

  • Awesome. Now I need one of those mounted on top of my Jeep...

  • Not made by Americans retard.

  • This is a Bofors 57 Mk3 gun system (US denomination 57 mm Mk110) with its high rate of fire and immediate switch capability between optimized ammunition types, including the new smart 57 mm 3P all-target ammunition, provides high survivability and tactical freedom at all levels of conflict.

  • NSWC Dahlgren, VA. Ah, yes, no wonder we have a crappy Rockfish harvest this year! All that damned noise at the Potomac River! Please don't shoot my Grandma's house again!!

  • Those swedes sure can make some nice guns

  • Swedish muscles ! Always the best !

  • WOW there gonna put that on a coat guard boat WOW

  • That's awsomely fast. would not fancy being on the receiving end!

  • Bofors swedish power ;)

  • It's a wonderful gun system. It gives smaller vessels a surprising amount of firepower so even larger vessels better be careful not to get too close!

  • This isn't going on DDG-1000

  • has there been a change to DDX 1000 armament? I thought it was 2 x 155mm, 2 x 57mm, 80 VLS

  • At this time the DDG-1000 (ex DDX ex DD21) is to be fit with 2 155mm 2 57mm provisions for 25mm stabilized and 12.7mm.
