Harper bullied the chair of the CRTC to step aside to allow Sun to access their desired license that would see them funded by Canadians cable TV fees. Harper will do anything he can to facilitate trash talk TV like this... after all, its how he won the election, except all that air time cost a lot of money - with Sun subsidized by us, it will be much cheaper to smear the competition

Anybody who buys this Sun media propoganda is absloutely out to lunch. If you feel that ARTS has no part in society, you must also feel that sports and other leisure activities are useless. Self discipline, overweight children and youth crime are all influenced by the availability of childrens programs. Without funding we'd have fatter kids, higher youth crime rate, and society would be far worse off. Open you eyes and minds before you make stupid comments.

@Enoeno Notice how I put "artists" in quotation marks. I have nothing against art or artists. I just don't see why art needs to be sponsored by the government. If your art is good, then it should survive in the market place. That's why I'm saying they have no right to be calling themselves artists, when their "art" cant survive without welfare.
Art isn't the only thing that is "truly" creative. Actually I would put art lower in the list compared to engeneering,programing,etc.. in creativity

@LasagnaIsGood Engineering and programing is on a completely different plane and cannot be compared to each other. In Canada, an artist can make, and if they are successful, about 11,000 dollars off their work alone. Obviously you have no idea what you're talking about. If taxes can support the exorbitant salaries of politicians, throwing a couple grants our way would be beneficial country-wide in terms of culture.

I said they were creative, and art isn't the only thing that is "truly" creative.I too feel a sense of pride and accomplishment when I work on a project, like building a pathway, or finding a neat solution to a programming problem.Art isn't the only thing that is abstract.
Subsidizing art is social engineering. Politicians deciding what our culture should be.If it can't survive commercially in a market or on its own,it isn't a part of our culture.
