  • Who sold Teddy Ruxpin in Japan? Was it Tomy, or Bandai, or Takara, or Epoch?

  • @ApacheMan2K No,no,no it was Tsukuda

  • @applesocks89 Ah, Tsukuda Original, who also sells the Othello board game.

  • I'm curious, what does the Japanese Teddy Ruxpin tape look like? Because there's one on ebay at the moment and if it's the same one, I must have it! :)

  • @MidStaryNight I checked out that auction, and it's exactly what my tape looks like. I hope you win it!! =D

  • @blueoctopede Oh how exciting! I really hope I win it, too! :) If I do, I'll come back here and let you know. ;)

  • I really curious as to what the high note is like at the end of the (myfriend song) blueoctopedo. do you plan on doing a version of "come and discover the world with me" video?

  • @kieranmay The high note is awful!! They're off-key and screechy... I am planning on doing the English, Japanese, and Chinese versions of the song. I can't give an exact date/time on when they'll be uploaded, but I will get to them eventually!

  • @blueoctopede cool I never knew you had the chinese version too, if you ever get time will you be uploading the full teddy ruxpin airship story all in chinese like you did with the japanese version? I love hearing stuff in other languages, do you have any other in different languages?

  • @kieranmay The Chinese version is up here: youtube.com/watch?v=Ze4Mrxnt43I . Chinese and Japanese are the only foreign tape I have so far... I've got a videotape of Tweeg Gets The Tweezles in French, but unfortunately it's still in the shrink-wrap so I can't watch it!! =(

  • @blueoctopede why can't you just... take it OUT of the shrink wrap?

  • @Nuggetlover96 Noooooooo, that would make it un-MIB! xD

  • The japanese voices are kinda cute!

  • so, i guess, if you have a tape in a different language, but an english teddy and grubby, it will work no matter what? that's cool!

  • teddy sounds like a girl. but very cute

  • Oh man I need to get me some Japanese Teddy tapes!! Thanks for posting this :).

  • God, Teddy Ruxpin sounds like a chick, and Grubby sounds like an Opera singer, their voices are so different, i'm not sure I like this very much.

  • Teddy and Grubby in japanese sound scary in japanese.I like their voice in english better it's cuter. What does gimmick and leota sound like in japanese.

  • They're horrifying. Absolutely H O R R I F Y I N G. Hence, why I did not include them in the video. I would rather not have over half my subscribers gouging their eardrums out.

  • @blueoctopede Teddy's a GIRL in Japan!! :P

  • @pika62221 Well, he addresses himself with ぼく (boku) at the very beginning of the tape; an informal form of "I" almost always used by males. In spite of the fact that he's obviously voiced by a woman, I'm sure he's intended to be a male character =)

  • @blueoctopede that's why I said he was a girl- "obviously voiced by a woman"

  • wizzwamf Gabby bear was not made by bandai he was made my Select merchandise.I have one with two tapes. He has a cute kid voice. He's so cute.I like his nice blue eyes and his cute chubby bage face.

  • My best mate had a Gabby Bear when he was young, he lent it to me and I broke the bloody thing. Can you please upload some videos of Gabby Bear if you haven't already done so?

  • @noah91198 What tapes do you have for your Gabby Bear?

  • @noah91198 gabby bear is indeed made by bandai,, if you google gabby bear bandai he apppears in a toy product catalogue ,mine has a red and white striped t shirt , and magic holographic dial to turn him on and up the volume, he also bears the picture in blue print on the back of his jeans,he uses standard tapes he also can use a acdc adapter to power him by the mains,he was availble in the uk in the late 80s he was advertised in a number of catalogues at a high price

  • @wizzwamf There were two versions of Gabby. One by Bandai and one by Select Merchandise.

  • been looking for the japanese airship tapes is there anyway you can rip the story

  • I could, but that would be illegal.

  • They sound weird in Japanese.

  • teddy sounds like he has a girls voice, in the books they normally have the actors voices

  • Aww i love this video :-D I have just got my Teddy Ruxpin back (he's been up in the attic for past 15 years or more) got him in 86 :-D and i have the Airship casette. Just need to get some batteries now to test him out... THANKS FOR POSTING, brings back lots of memories...

  • They both sound funny in Japanese.

  • okay why are they speaking 2 languages?

  • I had a talking bear when I was a kid in the late 80's but I'm not sure if it was a Teddy Ruxpin...My bear had glasses and eyebrows and I think he wore a red vest. I don't recall him having a tape but I could be mistaken. Does anyone have an idea of who my bear could have been?

  • Sorry, I have no idea. There was a Gabby Bear that wore red but it was a shirt, not a vest, and he didn't have glasses... I hope you figure out what it was you had!

  • gabby was made by bandai,he wore a striped red tshirt and blue jeans with his emblem on his back pocket, he was activated by a turn of a holographic wheel on his chest, powered by 4 aa batteries and also an ac adapter,he could use non animated tapes unlike teddyruxpin , i have him hes very ruxpin ,so with teddy ruxpins popularity other toy firms copied him

  • he was probably smarty bear by galoob who made baby talk too and dozzy doll and bear, he was about 85 /86/87

  • @wizzwamf Do you have Smarty? I'd love to see him :D

  • hehe, it's very interesting and cool to see a Japanese Teddy Ruxpin and Grubby sing. but Teddy sound like he's 8 years old, when he really is supposed to be 15 or 16. Grubby in Japanese, uh... i just giggled at his Japanese voice. that voice desn't suit him! he's supposed to have a much deeper voice. it's still cute though. ^.^

  • This is such a cute song. I own the newer Teddy Ruxpin Backpack Toys made, and he works good.

  • Oh wow!!

    That's so cool!!

I used to have one, but he broke. My mum tried to get him fixed, but the company couldn't find out what the problem was and so they couldn't fix him.

I'm currently on the look-out for a Teddy that was the same release as mine and that still works. But I keep seeing them on eBay as faulty. =(

  • What release was yours? Over half of mine were bought brand new when I was little, the other's I've picked up at yard sales and Ebay. I wouldn't trust Ebay though, I had a bad experience with a lady who sold me a talking Mother Goose...

I do know some people who fix the bears up and could sell one to you. If you remember what release yours was I could ask around and see if someone has one for you. They're a bit pricey, but worth it in my opinion =)

  • I remember mine taking the cassettes (not the cartridges) and being bigger than the newer models. It had a really nice face, like the one in your video.

  • i bought a boxed teddy from ebay with original pamphlets of bedding , costume patterns for teddy, cassette boxes and night wear and underwear, ect,in the uk he was issued by mattel toys,he also had an advert with gangsters in 30s outfits interviewing him or grilling him under a bright light ,not one of these adverts exists here

  • Weird! I've never heard of a Teddy Ruxpin made by Mattel, or those adverts you mentioned. It must have been an off-brand or something *shrug*

  • I understand that mattel was the australian distributor for Teddy Ruxpin, I may be wrong, but that's what I understand. It's interesting to note that Mattel were also the Aussie distributors for Nintendo, and I've read that Worlds Of Wonder originally distributed the NES in America until Nintendo took over the distribution. Again i may be wrong, but that's what I've read.

  • You can buy one of the faulty Teddys and send him to Dr. Eeyore to be repaired.

  • This is so cool!!

    Do they still work?

  • Oh yes :)

I have 14 bears, and all but 3 of them still work. They were built pretty well to last over 20 years!!!

  • Not only were those mechanical noises loud, but overtime they wore out and sounded worse. Eventually the bottom mouth piece of Teddy broke off of the one by brother had. After that one of the eyes died and didnt move anymore.

  • Yeah there's fluid in the motors moving the eyes and mouth and it just dries out over time... But one thing that happened to me once was I bought one over the internet, the person had kept in in their attic and the glue holding one of the eyes melted and dried stuck to the fur! That was a huge mess trying to clean up- the eye actually broke in half and I had to just take it all apart and put it back together. Ugh...

  • Wow I cant believe how much noise the mouth servos made back then, but I guess we just ignored it since it was simply amazing to have something that moves on its own back then.

  • lol pete wentz put this in his blog. aha. =]

  • wow...ily, but ur a dork. i cant beleive you sent this to me!

  • haha

    Thats how i found it

    This thing scares me...

  • Aww.. how cute lol

  • whoa, creepy!

  • Yep! There's a tan cord that connects them together so they can both toys can tell the story :)

  • Holy shit! Japanese!?!? I did not know about that! I would have had that! I like Teddy's Japanese voice! XD Kawaii!

  • i'm on the verge of tears.

i can't believe that i remember all of the words.

  • Ya gotta love it :3

  • I still have mine. Im 19 and I got it when I was 4. Does that mean I have a newer one?

  • One easy way to tell is on the older ones, the bears vest has brass buttons, and he actually has sleeves on his red jumpsuit. The newer ones have the sleeve attached to his hands and feet (like it's all one thing sewn together) and the vest doesn't have brass buttons on it.

  • I noticed that Japanese-singing Teddy's eyes are always wide open, but English-singing Teddy's eyes are always half-closed. o.o

  • Yeah I don't know why my English Airship tape does that. It's might just do that because of the tape's age or something. (Either that or Teddy had a shot or two while I was out of the room, if you know what I mean X3)

  • my cousin candice listen this song and her teddy and grubby sings it to her.

  • Pretty good! Ive never heard it in Jananese before though..

lol I dont speak Japanese myself so my opinion: i would of enjoyed it a little more all in english just cause i speak it and can understand it..

seems all the grubbys and teddy ruxpins are getting a little old and needing to be lubed lol they have little noises when they open their mouths, so does ours (my brothers) :D

  • Oh the nostalgia, I used to love that song, I haven't heard it since I was six or seven! I'm from from Sweden so I had the swedish Teddy Ruxpin...

  • How'd you get the Japanese tapes?

  • Ebay.

  • Think I could request a song? (In Japanese) I don't think Grubby has any lines in it, though.

  • I'd love for you to request a song, but the Airship is currently the only Japanese tape I have.

  • If you were to ever get the tape, I think "Quiet, please!" Would be a good song, since Teddy's Japanese voice is much better .. And doesn't make that mechanical noise when he talks. I'd have to look up the name of the tape, though ..

  • You know, I used to have Quiet Please for the little Playskool Teddy, but he is broken now, so the tapes are useless. I really ought to find one for big Teddy...

  • That'd be pretty cool. ^^ Probably eBay. I don't know which version of Teddy I had .. It was the one with the cartridge things, I don't remember any casette tapes.

  • Yeah the cartridges were for the "newer" Teddies. WoW made a few around 87 or 88 and PlaySkool continued them in, like, 1993 I think.

  • I love Teddy's Japanese voice, but Grubby sounds old. I like his English voice better.

  • that most have took some doing loading both tapes without a single flaw ,i think poor grubby sounds very odd in that other language, more videos of your other w.o.w things please

  • wow that so kool
