  • i could hear where Sigur Ros and Radiohead got thier influence

  • @ColdOasisU2 Listen to Elbow's first record. influence isn't even the word!

  • Fantastic album. Such a shame they are no more. I'd recommend the Feral Text if anyone's into this kind of thing though. Seriously, check 'em out. They have a song called 'Blue Prints' which is a great place to start.

  • This is one of my favorite songs of all time. The little one note guitar noise solo in the middle of the song just sends chills up my spine every time I listen to it. Brilliant.

  • And now, gets a ton of views due to being on Pitchfork..

  • ahhhh... *NOW* I hear the influence that Elbow took and ran with ..brilliant.

  • The drumbeat and sound is an exact replica of 'Mushroom' by Can, slowed down

  • Zero executives at EMI would UNDERSTAND THIS . Fewer would have a clue how to market it . LOL

TT, my all time favorite!!

  • Chill

  • Phenomenal song. But for EMI "Fuck you" !!

  • Listen to this after a dose of spacecake

  • I wish Talk Talk had done more material -----truly unique sound ---timeless music !!

  • It's perfect

  • I had been a fan of Spirit of Eden for a few years before I heard Laughing Stock. But I just couldn't get it. And then one day, years later, I heard the light. And now I have fathomed the beauty of this album, Spirit just isn't as satisfying any more. (I'm still waiting for the same thing to happen with Scott Walker's Tilt and The Drift - anyone else in the same boat?)

  • Zero executives of EMI have seen this.

  • @Megasnagre

And EMI tried to sue Talk Talk for SOE - claiming it was commercially not satisfactory - ha ha - the album is now rightly regarded as one of the greatest albums of all time. It's sad, EMI used to be a great label.

But no worries EMI have redeemed themselves by foisting such 'talents' as Tinie Tempah and Lily Allen on us. So all is not lost ...oh and they are owned by a bank now. (sarcastically, leaves the comments section before I say something I'll regret...!)

  • I love this album, but would like to add this . . . Fuck you EMI . . . fuck you.

  • One of the best songs of all time. Absolutely breathtaking.

The bit that kicks in at 1:40 is incredible.

  • For me, the music has a 'Peter Gabriel' feel to it (Lead voice,I think as well as the 'otherwordly',intensely creative feel of the music - was linked to this from Dominic Miller (Sting) who says that 3.17 is his favourite moment from his favourite tract from his favourite album .......considering the source, fine accolade indeed.

  • @All4Seasons Does he mean that guitar chord, the saxophone(?) lick, or the vocals? That guitar chord happens to be my favourite moment, along with the same chord leading out of the "geese" at 5:16.

  • that guitar from 4'14" kills me.... everytime. Perfection

  • Absolutely sublime. Agreed. Nothing comes close. Brain currently rocketing...

  • @sxmadrid an album before its time indeed. Complex, rich, reflective, mildly gritty and ultimately intensely and immensely gorgeous!

  • Im sad cos I miss Mark Hollis, I want him to come back and show them all how its done...

  • @sfb211 I think his music was progressing towards minimalism. The ultimate minimalism is silence.

  • 5,270 VIEWS???? for one of the greatest, most influential song-writing talents of the late 20th century????? Scrape away the DNA of today's great writers and you'll find Talk Talk in the code.

  • Absolutely sublime. Sends your brain-space rocketing into the stratosphere.

  • surely as a purist real vision beholds all that see.

  • its about time mark hollis/talk talk were awarded into the rock n roll music hall of fame.

  • primo

  • this song is freaking good

  • The telltale marks of the genre—textured guitars, glacial tempos, an emphasis on dynamics, electronica, ambience and minimalism—were all in place, and paved the way for bands like Sigur Rós, Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Low, and latter-period Radiohead

  • Don't forget Bark Psychosis! Perhaps the most similar.

  • "TOPPES LIED" Ein Freund von mir

(Film mit Jürgen Vogel und Daniel Brühl)

  • chillout!!!!!

  • Mark Hollis,my hero.respect.

  • Same here. He's one of the unsung heroes of music. Absolute legend

  • This song is so wonderful..!!!!

  • I know, it's incredible. Weirdly enough, no one had put it on Youtube yet.

  • ...someone put this same exact video up almost a year ago

though i'm just being an asshole :)

  • Yeah I saw that; didn't show up in the search the first time, though, for whatever reason, so...
