Whats even the point in arguing between blink-182 and trio? It's pointless, they're styles are far too different to even compare, and this is coming from someone who has listened to both his whole life. Yeah they're both punk-rock.. but blink is a lot more cheerful, and trio's lyrics are a lot deeper, so just stop arguing...

i think the point he was trying to make is that they both do. Derek sings a lot of backup and Dan sings on average half the lead vocals every album. So your question of "why waste talent" makes it seem like you may not have listened to the band much, or at least don't pay much attention to who is doing vocals. If that is not the case then you may want to retract that previous statement.

@whatpressure I always considered Matt's songs to be much darker while Dan's tended more to be what I called "light at the end of the tunnel" songs, although Alkaline Trio tend to do darker songs as a whole.

Everyone else has done the Blink 182 thing to death but yeah, neither copied the other, they don't even have similar styles. Dual vocalists in a band isn't exactly a new thing.

I've listen to all the crap pop punk that's came out after blink-182 and nobody has ever came close to sounding even remotely similar to them. Much more closely to sounding like NFG than anything. Another thing, Alkaline Trio and Blink are both awesome bands so people really need to stop comparing and/or dissing them.

@Whatpressure I think that you are wrong why Blink 182 was supposed to copy of ALK3 since B182 was established in 1992 and of ALK3 in 1996 and earlier already sang B182 alternately. In my opinion two rock groups have the different style and both very much I like:)

yeah he just doesn't seem to have to try. in this video matt totally struggles at his part which isn't even that high and derek's just bashing away at the drums singing along without really thinking about it - and he sings the hardest part. he's singing matt's backing vocals that had to be autotuned the shit out of on the original record.

You've got to remember Matt's had a lot of problems with his voice; a recurring one being the fact it is gradually getting higher, still. That can put a lot of pressure on your throat and voice. He'll probably need surgery on it again, just like he did jsut before Hallowe'en 2002. Least his voice sounds like it does on the DVD afterwards though. :P

It's easy to be pitch perfect when you're singing in a low tone, no matter what your real voice sounds like. It's never easy to be pitch perfect when you sing high, no matter how high your voice is. I don't care who sings the song, I like a decent amount from both singers, I'm just saying that it's easier to be 'perfect' when you're singing low like that.
