This is not a call for paternalism but one for respect. If we're going to have a true "healing revolution," which is completely AWESOME (!) and totally in order, it would be unfair and counterrevolutionary to alienate people by de-legitimizing their experience in describing only the advancements of the "American" white woman throughout modern history. Since this IS a MOVEMENT, learning from past mistakes is extremely important.
What about poor women, (grossly disproportionately) of color who were targets in the 60s, 70s & early 80s of federally-funded policy of forced sterilization?
Women of color are continually being colonized in the US by people making policy who disregard that the personal is political, that inequity is built in the very INFRASTRUCTURE of society(!), e.g. architecture, corporate media, policy, norms, tokenism.
are we talking about white women only? because, i mean, once "America" (South, Central, North? are we all imperialists?) started, Native women traditionally experienced an equity head & shoulders above that of their white sisters. That is, until the US wiped out her people in a genocidal bloodbath of which Natives still experience the effects of today. Scholars' estimates say 18 MILLION murdered on the North American continent alone!
