I wanna see some jump masse shots next lol. I think you guys already programmed it to compensate for cue ball deflection and swerve. Truly an amazing piece of work, but seriously. I wanna see some masse shots.
What ever... I don't want the robot to play my game of pool! I want it to pour my beer and service my manhood! ...I was born a couple centuries too early apparently.
pretty crazy! impressive work. what kind of thesis is this for? Just out of curiosity... looks like it needed an extreme amount of work and probably costly.
I don't think that this takes into consideration the spin of the cue ball, transfer and conservation of angular momentum at the cushions nor the surface characteristics of the cloth which are not linear. All in all a nice bit of work. With some more time and some more variables you could get a decent game of pool out of it. Perhaps.
I'm fascinated by the tribology variables here. The mechanics yes, but also the interaction of the surfaces and the transfer of energy between them. I wonder if it is better to forget any deterministic model that will predict where the cue will go with any given input and just calibrate many diff shots and then collect data to form a shot table of results. Then pick a result from that table when needed. Temperature and humidity must be a factor also for the table surface. Fascinating!
Can someone please convince me that an automatic pool playing machine has any significance to us at all.

Amazing! Around 2:49 the machine predicts the reaction between two colliding balls even after they've been put into play.

This is like that episode of quantum leap where Al helps Sam win the pool match by showing the angles with his hand held gizmo dealio.

The pool playing robot is meh, as its a single purpose robot.
Augmented Reality pool, on the other hand, is very cool for Pool training.

0:40, deep green sure has the spin...
BY THE WAY, GOOD PLAYERS AREN´T BAD LOOSERS.
