@Jefflebowski95 good question. When I watch the clip, The Dude moves out of frame and then back in 7 seconds. During that time Walter, Donny, and The Dude are talking. No time to roll. He probably set his ball in the ball return, held his hand over the air blower, and then stretched. The blooper here is that the pins didn't reset after Donny rolled. Also, if The Dude had rolled a strike, there probably would have been some reaction from the guys. Just my opinion, man. The Dude abides.
@usf123456789 All you peeps who are trying to refute this tom guy think you can easily do so but you don't REALLY KNOW why you like this movie so much. Because the reasons why you like it are so not what tom is talking about and definitely not enough to oppose his arguments. no, he's not like a child who wanders in the middle of the movie - most of you are. the majority doesn't understand the movie at all. I admit I didn't understand some od its deeper connotations either. I do like it tho. :)
@Solus77 Okay, bro, how about enlightening the rest of us, in detail, about your depth of understanding about this movie. Also, please explain why I don't REALLY KNOW why I like this movie so much. And please give us a little more background on your ability to know that "the majority doesn't understand the movie at all." And you are right, Tom is not like a child who wanders into the middle of the movie, because that implies he could actually find the movie theater. :-)
@dtrivin First of all, I'm not your bro, bro. I gave you a link to a review by some guy who spent a substantial amount of his time (in other words a waste) to go in depth about this creation. Now what I find fascinating is how there is always some cult following that develops after a film that's obscure and murky and unconventional comes out. Something now straightforward but susceptible to various interpretations. Movies like this are often so ambitious that they seems to discuss everything. ->
@dtrivin Like so many multifarious themes and subjects, including the meaning of life or whatever. And more often than not, the authors themselves didn't mean it to be so 'deep' and universal, touching on everything. In fact, they couldn't pull it off even if they wanted to. Now, people tend to draw out so many allusions and meanings and symbolics that it often seems as though the movie really is a work of genius and truly diverse and ubiquitous. People are attracted to this mistique surrounding
@dtrivin it and then they tend to oppose anyone who says the movie isn't really that good (even though it's just their opinion) because the film is so good and you so get it and it's just so good. That's nonsense as you can see. I've read more about this film than any of you numbnuts put together as Clint would say - and you can take my fucking word on it. Now that we've established that I know more about The Big Lebowski and cinematograhpy in general, I will say that I like it simply because
@dtrivin it's amusing. It's funny. From a critical point of view, it is somewhat artistically valuable and it is well made. The Coen bros are not just another name among directors after all. They're sort of unique, like Tarantino I suppose. Got their own style and all... But I digress. I hope you read it all you smartass piece of shit cos I've wasted some 10 minutes of my life. Anyway, don't bother with replies cos I won't be reading them.
@Solus77 Wow, bro. All I can say is that I'm calmer than you. We agree that the movie is funny. Cool. And how about lightening up. Really. Anything you do with your time is valuable, though you might not see the benefit until later.
I love this scene. Steve Buschemi's Donny is so happily clueless and John Goodman's Walter is so tightly wound that anything will send him over the edge. Perfect depiction of 3 people talking on different wavelengths & not really listening to anyone else. Great stuff!
first time i ever seen the movie it was funny, and clever, second time it got even better, i have literally seen this movie over 100 times, and it is brilliant, i just appritiate the cone brothers so much, what an epic movie, the characters the script and scenario is all brilliant.. donny, jesus, walter, dude, the cowboy guy all brilliant actors for those roles,
I love how Donnie is almost ignored by the other characters unless a) Walter is grilling him or b) he's dieing. John Goodman was one of the best actors in the movie along with Bridges and Turturro (although his lack of screen time takes away from this).
Where you listening to the dudes story donny?? I was bowling... So you have no frame of reference here donny your like a child who wonders into the middle of the movie
" 'his name is Lebowski, that's your name dude'. Steve Buscemi is my hero."
...and I don't get it. Why is that funny? Why does it make Steve Buscemi your hero? Why does it stick in your mind at all, let alone resonate so much?
I will happily concede that I'm wildly missing something about this movie (clearly I am), but I just don't get why all these random lines have turned into Enduring Cultural Citations. They don't MEAN anything.
@TomMichaels101 exactly, the lines don't mean anything by themselves. It's the context of the story, the relationship of bowling buddies, Walter, Donny, and the Dude that give the lines meaning. It reminds us of all the inane, stupid conversations we've had with friends, while under the influence or not, and we can laugh at ourselves. The Bowling Alley scene is wonderful because 3 great actors, who've done serious drama and comedy, create so much with so little dialog. Just a fantastic script.
@TomMichaels101 so what I suggest is that you gather a few friends together with a more than ample supply of choice beverages, fire up a few jays, and pay homage to one of the funniest movies ever. Favorite lines in the movie are when the boys confront the kidnappers and Donny asks, "Are these Nazis, Walter?" and Walter says, "They're nihilists, Donny, nothing to be afraid of." Now, that's fucking funny!
@dtrivin Thanks for the attempted explanation. But still no dice.
I've seen the movie, so that's not the issue. I have lots of quirky tastes, and love offbeat comedy, so that's not the issue. I love Bridges and appreciate the Coen Brothers, so that's not the issue.
I simply don't get why this film, particularly the dialogue, has taken on this cult adoration. The 'nihilists' line you call fucking funny -- what's so funny about it? What are we laughing at, exactly? Can you explain? (cont.>)
@TomMichaels101 :) Okay, I'll give it a shot. In a nutshell, nihilists believe in nothing, I think Bunny mentions it to The Dude when he asks about the drunk guy in the swimming pool. So, if nihilists believe in nothing, Walter says that there's nothing to be afraid of. The only thing to be afraid of is nothing because that's what they believe in, nothing.
@TomMichaels101 I think the reason it's taken on cult status is because The Dude is so recognizeable. If there's a weakness in the film, to me, it's the sterotypic intrigue horse shit. Drags on the movie somewhat. The Dude and Walter are such pleasures to watch, otherwise.

(2) I suspect what's throwing me off is that I actually *know* plenty of burnouts and slackers. Lots of good times. And they're all far more real and organic and funny than anything in this film, which is more like what a distant intellectual might THINK burnout life is like. It just gets the essence wrong.
That's what rubs me wrong about it, I think. It's this stylized take on burnout life that doesn't even realize it's stylized. It's unaware of its own inauthenticity. (cont.>)

(3) And largely so are its fans, who strike me as voyeurs who think they're getting a glimpse of some funky existence -- like the frat boys who get into hip-hop because it feels like some exotic taste of black life.
Fans rave that Bridges has captured the aimless stoner vibe. But he hasn't. He looks like ... an actor pretending to be what he thinks a stoner is. I feel like shaking all you fans: I KNOW BURNOUTS, AND THIS IS NO BURNOUT, DAMMIT!
@TomMichaels101 The Dude might be behind on his rent, but he, Walter, and Donny are not burnouts and slackers. And they are not aimless. They're on a mission and The Dude and Walter might seem inept, but they do pretty well considering that the Big Lebowski and Brant is lying to them. They figure the scheme out. Just my opinion. :) Bro, it's just a movie, fiction, comedy, a farce. It's not a documentary.
@TomMichaels101 I'm sorry but no matter how convincing you're trying to sound, you have no frame of reference. You're like a child who wonders in the middle of a movie. Obviously, you're out of your element.
@TomMichaels101 There is nothing strange whatsoever about this film getting a cult following and now a rather mass following. That is the real world, man. It may look fynny onscreen but that's the daily interaction and communication between human beings! It's clumsy and prone to constant misinterpretation and usually leaning towards trouble. The Coens seem to give us a simple comedy about a bunch of guys but that's just the rug that ties the thing together.
@TomMichaels101 I think I speak for all of us.You NEED TO SHUT THE FUCK UP.

@TomMichaels101 and everyone: There are many reasons why this movie is awesome. Some of them:
- The definition of the characters and the relations among them is impeccable
- The casting is perfect (nobody would do a better Dude, Walter or Donny)
- The story is very good!
- It is innovative in its style.
- The dream sequences, which borrow from Busby Berkeley.
- It is memorable in it's use of non sequitur humor, something that is very difficult do script and even harder to perform successfully

We know you love to troll the web,I have a couple of times I'll admit but looking at your'e comments history on your channel you seem to love to be a hater and you target the most random videos on the tube.I really don't know what youre major malfunction is but all I do know is that you need it beat outa you.

@thevandit : I think you've mixed up Jeff Bridges with Jeff Daniels. Daniels was in Dumb and Dumber with Jim Carrey. All great actors.
