Your tongue blocks your airways by far the most when you sleep on your back. Its been medically proven that sleeping on your side cures moderate sleep apnea, and can reduce the effects of severe sleep apnea, therefore decreasing the CPAP pressure needed. and its actually comfortable, nothing goes in your mouth or goes on your face. There are positional products available such as Sleepmediq or Rematee that are medically evaluated or approved that are worth taking a look at

My 2 year old snores with her mouth open. She has enlarged tonsils, and if they don't shrink she will need her tonsils out. Thought of the operation of having her tonsils out, due to risks associated during and after the surgery not wanting her to be in pain, and not wanting her to loose weight after the surgery (because the surgery is removing tonsils from within the throat. & in her mouth/throat is where she needs to be able to breathe. eat & drink & that could cause her pain & loss of weight.

Great video you have here, shows a wide variety of people talking about their personal issues. I have found much the same, there are a lot of different solutions and I SHOW how to find them, check out my video.
A majority of Sleep Apnea sufferers can be treated by altering their diet and the use of natural herbs. Lobellia has been proven to help sleep apnea, in fact you can check out the information at Nature's Rite Remedies dot com.
I'm going to try nasal irrigation before bed, breath-rite strips, a chin-strap and a mouth piece to keep from grinding my teeth. They already are misaligned and hit end-on-end. I hope it works. Haven't had a perfect night's sleep since March of 2000'. I'll never forget that day; a perfect 10hrs. and I felt like Superman--mentally and physically. I then realized what life should be. I should have gotten serious about this before.....
I snore bad but I dont have sleep apnea and could not get a machine through insurance ,When I woke in the morning I felt like I was worn out. A friend gave me his machine and I FELT THE CHANGE OVER NIGHT........IF YOU SNORE AND FILL BAD IN THE MORNING FIND A DOCTOR FIND A MACHINE,KNOWING HOW I FILL NOW AS TO A WEEK AGO I WOULD EVEN TRY TO MAKE A LOW LEVEL BLOWER ARE A FISH AQUARIUM PUMP TO GET THE JOB DONE. There is a presure setting to the person so beware with a used machine. Good hunting.
Apnea is caused by SO many things, not just the tongue flopping around. Yes excess tissue can be the cause, but that includes tongue, tonsils, soft palate, uvula, and adenoids. Other causes include muscles relaxing, all of that mass weighs down on your airway, collapsing it in partially or completely. That is why the majority people with apnea are also overweight. Sometimes it is a solely neurological issue. The brain just stops sending the message to breath. This mouth piece is snake oil.
Well had my first night with CPAP and searching for tips as it was REALLY uncomfortable and i woke 4 times or so as i toss/turn alot in sleep and plus not used to it.
However this guys quite correct, mines caused by throat muscles relaxing and weight around it constricting my airway, this silly little thing wouldnt touch me.
CPAP is to keep airflowing into my mouth, keeping airway in my throat open, hopefully helping me sleep properly.
I have woken up on several times lately in the middle of my sleep GASPING for air, as I standing up out of bed going HGGGRRRRR trying to pull a breath in. At first I used to kick the bed to wake my wife to call 911 if I couldnt get my breath, but now I have learned if I stay calm when it happens and SLOWLY breath in thru my nose, I can catch my breath. Is this Sleep Apnea?? I ask cause I have scoliosis and my chiroprator thinks its pinched nerves for my lung "hairs" tricking my into thinking it.
Yes, if you don't have insurance, your basically screwed. I've searched around for a cheaper solution to sleep apnea, just to find every website saying "Go to the Doctor, my insurance paid 100% of my bill" or "my insurance paid all but 20% of my bill". Must be nice.
there is no other cure for sleep apnea. Some things might help byt not come even close to eliminating it. If you do not have insurence.....talk to the DR and the Sleep lab about it. You would be suprised how many DR will not even charge to help people. Or they might charge only a 1/4 of what it costs to get this done. Remember CPAP is the only 100%cure for sleep apnea.
I have sleep apnea and I am tall and thin. Its because I have a small jaw so my tongue collapses.
You know what I don't understand. It only takes one apnea to wake you up out of deep sleep, and then you may not get back down into REM, you need to have 15 hyponeas to qualify, I just qualified, it doesn't make sense to me that it needs to be that high, surely even a single apnea is enough to mess your sleep up.
Sometimes sleep techs will say things and pts will understand wrong.
In our lab....when pt comes in for the first time ..if we get 15 events in the first hour it means that this pt is severely positive and we can go ahead and start with the CPAP that same night. If not then we just run the diagnostic the whole night. Which does not mean that pt is not positive. Anything over 5 Events per hour is considered positive. 5-10 mild 10-30 modrate to severe and 30+ severe
I have a severe overbite so I am having authodontic treatment and then double jaw op in a couple yrs to correct bite but also correct sleep apnea. In meantime I am going to use a face down pillow. I can't get on with CPAP and the dental is too painful.
The Snoring Isn't Sexy website encourages patients to discuss their experiences with CPAP, Dental Mouthpieces and Pillar procedure. Visit the "Patient Comments" section and rate your appliance, CPAP or surgical procedure's effectiveness.
I felt exactly the same way and I have the cpap machine. At first, i HATED it. I was convinced to stay with it, and through trial and error, I now love my machine and I will beat you up if you take it from me. Seriously.
If you are still snoring with your CPAP on then you setting isn't high enough. That happened to me when I got pregnant and had to have my setting higher. Then after I had my son, it was turned back down.
I work in a sleep lab as a registered polysomnography technologist and just wanted to let people know that this device is not effective for most people. It can only partially hold the tounge in place, but does not help at all if your upper airway obstruction is due to enlarged adnoids or uvula or just a narrow airway. Most cases of apnea are due to excessive fat on the exterior of the neck which cause upper airway collaps
@happyfrequency - in addition to your comments people suffering with excessive daytime drowsiness may not even have sleep apnoea - they should see a sleep physician for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

THIS IS BULL SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT PISSES ME OFF SO MUCH. THIS DR DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO SLEEP APNEA. HE IS A DENTIS SELLING HIS MOUTHGUARD.
Sleep Apnea is not only caused by your tongue falling back. It can may different reasons for which the MOUTH GUARD will do nothing.
CPAP IS THE ONLY 100% cure for sleep apnea people. These guys make it sound bad because they are selling the mouth guard. IT IS NOT BAD!!!!!!!
