  • sweet moses. so man blackbelts

  • how can a black belt give to another black belt'a red and black belt? its like brown belt gives to another brown belt..a black belt

  • DanHendo ChaelSonnen MattHughes.... Renzo what are you doin out of the kitchen sucka

  • who is that fag getting a black / red belt. Ill beat his ass.

  • @punking12341 Ooooo, keyboard redbelt, golden gloves, olympic gold medalist champion warrior.

  • is that roger gracie in blue gi in background???

  • carlson gracie sr never recieved a black belt from mitsyo maeda the whole bjj system and belts is or was made up by carlson and his brothers.

  • alot of blackbelts 0.0 man im bearly a 3 striped white belt lol

  • @EthernalExhile So im sure youre a 4 striped belt by now. I just got my first stripe lol.

  • Renzo Gracie is awesome, I hope I can train with him one day.

  • How come all those red and black belts and red belts come with all of those stripes on the flag?

  • how does a black belt give some 1 red & black belt

  • @nishaplayerbrahh

    he's 6th degree in BJJ

  • @nishaplayerbrahh Lol Rorion Gracie should be the only one giving out red&black belts.

  • Holy moly! Who are all the black belts! lol

  • he has italian accent

  • I dont understand a word he is saying lol...he talks like an italian..hehehe Go Renzo!

  • dude those belts with the grey around the edges are so ugly!!!

damn swallow your pride, and use a different and better looking belt

  • how can Renzo give him that belt when he himself is not a Red and Black belt?

  • @em729 Renzo is “presenting” the belt to Carlos on behalf of Gracie Barra, CBJJ, & the IBJJF (all founded and run by Carlos) and not actually “awarding” it to him. He’s done a lot for BJJ and has trained since the 1960’s and definitely deserves the rank.

Funny thing is, that all of Carlos' older brothers are higher ranked, including Carlos Robson (Renzo's dad) & Reyson, who are both 9th dans, & of course his uncle Helio at 10th dan, yet he promoted himself instead of receiving rank from them.

  • The Gracie family are a credit to their Scottish roots.

  • WAR RENZO!!! respect

  • so is carlos a higher belt level than renzo is?

  • @vboytan Carlos is a 7th degree and Renzo is a 6th degree. I believe at that time Renzo was still a 5th degree and was promoted to 6th a few months later. Also if I'm correct Renzo's older brother Charles should be getting his 7th degree sometime this year. He's been a 6th degree for about 7 or 8 years now, so he should be eligible to receive it now.

  • i'd cheat on my gf for that belt.

  • wow! I can only see black belts there

  • @Ruditoman start a fight there!

  • Always knew Renzo was a legendary fighter. I never knew he was such a good speeker too.

  • @jujitsufiend He's the story teller of the Gracie family....... either him or Rener Gracie lol

  • Black and red belt! amazing accomplishment! :)

  • Renzo is a good fighter, but he tended to be out of shape or just didnt have the standup for those people with strong takedown defense.

  • I wish I could train in brazilian jujitsu but school just gets in the way of things...

  • Damn is it me or does renzo look a little bit out of shape someone needs to go back on the Gracie diet

  • OSS!

  • Renzo really is a class act!

  • There are no black belt degrees in Gracie jui jitsu the bell ranking system goes white, blue, Purprl, brown, black, red/black, and then red

  • @BrianDK96 yes there is, its called stripes , like 4 stripe blue belt, 3 stripe brown, 1 stripe white look it up

  • @BrianDK96 no, there are stripes on the black belt

  • @BrianDK96 of course there are degree's in jiu-jitsu some dojos now a days dont give stripes but they should, you can have up to 4 stripes on each belts up until black, the black belt goes up to the 10th degree red belt (reserved for original creators, carlos sr, helio, gastao jr, oswaldo,) then there are 9th degree red belts, (carlson, francisco mansur, renato paquet, rickson, royce, carlso jr etc.) If you get your black belt at 19 the youngest you can get your red is at 67 years old.

  • @carlsongracieteam Your right for the most part, except that neither Rickson, Royce, or Carlos Gracie, Jr. are 9th degree red belts. Rickson is an 8th degree red and black belt, and both Royce and Carlos are 7th degree red and black belts. Also generally yes you do have to be at least 67 to get your 9th dan red belt, however, Rorion is only 58 and has been a 9th dan for several years. The IBJJF may not recognize his rank, but he did get it from Helio, who IMHO was the highest authority on rank.

  • @barrettokarate rorion was given his red because helio knew he was going to die, and wanted to be the one to give his oldest son his red belt but rorion got his way to young ans sorry your right rickson, royce and carlos jr are only red and black belts 7th & 8th degree but they will be 9 th degree within the next 15 years.

  • @carlsongracieteam True, Rickson and Carlos Jr. will eventually get their 9th dan red belts and deservedly so, but not Royce. He recently did an interview, where he said that now that Helio is gone, he will never accept another promotion above 7th dan. Royce doesn’t even wear his black belt or stripes anymore, he now wears a midnight blue belt in honor of Helio. Recently he did a seminar at the Gracie Academy and was wearing the midnight blue belt. Cool show of respect and love for his dad.

  • @barrettokarate yeah royce is a pretty traditional guy

  • @carlsongracieteam After reading your comment about Rorion getting his red belt too soon, I realized that they did the same speedy promotions with Ryron and Rener. Both of them received their black belts in 2002 and by around 2007, they were both up to 5th and 4th degree (their present ranks). They're almost the same rank as their uncles and older cousins. Ralek’s promotions on the other hand are much slower. He got his black belt in 2007 and just barely got his first stripe this year.

  • @barrettokarate yeah right before helio died, he decided to slap on about 3-4 stripes on each of their belts, helio never got the chance to do it with ralek, he got his black belt after helio was gone. rorion went from 6th degree to 9th degree in one year. rener should be 2 degree, and ryron should be the same.

  • @carlsongracieteam I would love to know what the other members of the Gracie family really think of Rorion, Ryron, and Rener's promotions. Unfortunately even with some of their personal quarrels, I doubt that most if any of them would speak on the matter. I think that the only one who would say anything if he was still alive would the late great Carlson Gracie. In all the interviews of him I've read, he seemed to always tell it like it is.

  • @barrettokarate yes i had the honor of training under carlson sr. for 2 years at his main academy in chicago, he alway told it like it is and he didn't like, rorion, rener, ryron much. he hated how americanized they made bjj when they started making websites and making it so u could get a belt in the mail. rip master carlson, he was about the most legit 9th degree you could get. he didnt get it til he was nearly around 70 yrs old.

  • thats a lot of stripes.

  • A black belt can give someone else a higher belt? :o

  • @joeyp978

When it comes to Red Belts, I don't know how that works. But you can't give higher and or equal to your belt. If you train under a blackbelt, you can get a four strip brown, but until they go to a black with 1 strip, they aren't allowed to promote you. At least that's the way I've been told, and that comes from Rey. I think a lot of those people, the Black belts with the degree's etc. They stop caring about it. I know a forth degree Black he doesn't care to ever go up.

  • @dbnoho Red belt was saved for the creators I believe.

  • @joeyp978 I might be wrong but I'm pretty sure Renzo is a 7th degree black belt (he just doesn't have the stripes on the belt), and Carlos Gracie Jr I believe is now a 7th as well - again i'm no bjj master to tell all the high ranks in order, this is just what i've been told

  • The tall bald guy in the background to the right, is that Proffessor Dominick Parker?

  • "While you are the nail hanging there, let them hit you, until the day you become the Hammer so then you, smashed them back" - Renzo Gracie

To me & to others this is so true, cause even me a beginner in Gracie Jiu Jitsu gets beat and beaten by others, I too can one day beat them, but I give much respect to all jiu jitsu students & Instructors around the Globe.

  • depending on the school. Your black belt can "Upgrade" of course there are black belt "degrees" which represents your time as a black belt, but in some schools colors are added to the black belt to denote ultimate achievements like a red stripe for "Master teacher" and a white stripe for "Master fighter" There is also a solid red belt which denotes grand master.

  • Great guy, very funny.

  • @elgee when your black belt teacher tells a joke you gotta laugh or submission is coming

  • the black and red belt represent the commitment and been a great jiu jitsu master

  • a martial style

  • Nice to see Renzo so personable and emotional. Martial arts is a beautiful thing!

  • what does the red and black belt mean is that b4 your coral belt?

  • @lilcaldwell101 there is no such thing as a coral belt. For kids under 16 it goes: White, Orange, Green. After sixteen it goes like: White, Blue, Purple(After 18 or so i think), Brown, Black. There are 10 degrees after the black belt i think, 10 is full red only Helio Gracie had it or Rickson have it im not sure. So i think Red and Black is when you turn 5th degree or something

  • @asdfero yeah pretty much right but actually kids under 16 go : white, yellow, oarnge, green. then men have 16-17: blue, purple 18+:brown, black, red/black, red belt ( grand master) 9th degree.. there will never be another 10th degree there are 2 Helio and carlos gracie sr. the rest of the grandmasters only go up to 9. like francisco mansur

  • wow gettin ur black belt in 2 years... YOU DONT ATTEND A McDOJO DO YOU

  • Comment removed

  • @markflorian138 lol drive thru black belt

  • "baguazhang"..LOL

  • Renzo is one of the greatest to not receive the credit he deserves. Great guy and a true warrior.

  • Carlinhos is a legend in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, having produced some of the finest BJJ black belts in history. Awesome to see such a personal moment that very few who train will ever attain: the red and black belt. Great to see him recognized for his contributions to the art

  • Personally saw renzo take frank shamrock down 3 times. Renzo is one of the greatest bbj of all times. Frank was not easy to take down.

  • To All my BJJ Guys youtube 52 Blocks with Sensei Mo and then tell me what you think

    BJJ RULE

  • oooh! i saw him at my academy with his black and red belt!

  • TO ALL MY BJJ GUYS I TOLD THIS GUY Blacktaoist There is a gracie brazilian jujiusu school 224 w 30th street 8th ave why don't you go up against them since you don't think it will work in the Street read what he said he wants to spar with me and not gracies.

That nice. But I'm not interested. But if you that interested in free fighting me you or anyone from your school. I teach baguazhang at 1950 3rd ave /107th street 3rd floor I am there from

  • whats baguazhang

  • What Better to learn KRAV MAGA OR BJJ

  • bjj krav maga is for pussies.

  • Why do you think krav is for pussies Im new to the BJJ world Is this good for fighting on the streets

  • if you are bluebelt in bjj for example under Alliance and got your belt from Fabio then I can assure you, you are way better fighter then any krav maga guy.

Krav maga is a joke. taking guns away or knifes.

The reality of the sitsuation is nobody who is going to hurt you with a gun or knife will not be showing it to you instead he they will try to shoot from a range or stab from behind.

The scenarios are stupid and if you want to learn kickboxing that they train there then go for real Muay Thai

  • Hey thanks I never looked at it like that good info

  • bjj and MMA or subwrestling teaches reality and control. It teaches positioning yourself and teaches positions and moves from those positions.

That information and grappling sparring experience is much more important then any kickboxing striking training.

Thou I think it's important to learn striking if you are training for proffessional career.

  • BJJ all the Way

  • I had to laugh at it to these guys talk so much about BJJ but don't want go face of against them you want to laugh some youtube 52 Blocks with Sensei Mo

  • How is Renzo Gracie Related to the gracie family is he another brother

  • He is Carlos "Carlinhos" Gracie Jr.'s nephew. Great nephew to Helio and Carlos Gracie Sr.

  • Gracie are good people! Class! BJJ rules!

  • first of all gracie barra in chicago sucks ass carlson gracie we are the best to get promoted for belts you have to fight like the rank u wish to have and win tournaments.

  • Comment removed

  • You have to stay at each black belt rank for 3 yrs up until 5th degree then it's every 5 yrs. By the time you get 2nd degree black you've been black for almost 10 yrs. I got my black belt in 8 yrs to the week training 5-7 days a week.

  • Lol, oh and you know so much about my life. Hahaha fucking loser!

  • Lol, "fail" great comeback doughebag.

  • Fuck you faggot! Go kill yourself. Don't disrespect people who have done a BILLION times more then you will ever do. YOUR a fucking disgracie!

  • Just wondering since Carlos is the head of the academy, its pretty much him who decides he himself gets promoted? or?....

  • actually, the confederation promoted him to red & black, it was just renzo who awarded him the belt

  • im wondering why does the belt already have stripes on it?

  • the degrees of black belt.

  • because its awarded when you reach 7th dan

  • He sounds like a foreign Christopher Walken.

  • ROFLMFAO!!!

I've been wanting to trry and explain how he sounds for a while, but you nailed it.

  • I just saw him a few months ago. He was in good shape.

  • how many yrs did it take for him to get that?

  • should take about average 10-15 years...I think...

  • ten to 15 years? on average a person gets there black belt in 10 years if they stay faithful and dedicated, a red&black is anywhere from a 7th to 9th degree black belt, my guess is hes been doing jiu jitsu since he was a child so probably about 35-40 years

  • 10 years for a BJJ black-belt in average? In what country do you live in? Here in Brazil it is around 7 years. Of course, if you started very young you won't be able to get the BB due to age constraints, but for adults I would not put it beyond 7 years... Dedicated and talented people could reach BB in almost half this time.

  • yeah man, thats brazil though, in america you can either train for 10 years to be sure you are black belt ready, or belong to one of those fuckhead gyms that throws a blackbelt at just about anyone. but i believe in brazil it would take 7 years or so but thats because brazilians probably start it much younger, im 24, been doing rickson gracie jj for 2 years and just got my blue belt...

  • Rickson is very tough when it comes to giving black-belts!!! He is known for only awarding really great practitioners, after all, if you get it from him, you are a Rickson's Gracie black-belt!!! Good luck my friend, you'll need it along with much, much dedication! But it will be worth all the effort, believe me.

  • i've heard, i always thought you had to be a black belt in order to run a school, thats what my old teacher cassio werneck tought me (you should youtube him,hes pretty badass) but my rickson gracie teacher branden hetzler is only a brown belt and he runs the school here in sacramento,he said its taken him 8 years to get his brown and rickson told him he will be 1 of very few to get his black in under 10 years, i guess there are only 7 rickson black belts out there

  • I think its more like 8 years. about two years per belt if you train faithfully

  • Comment removed

  • you are full of shit you can't get adult belts until you are 16

  • Comment removed

  • before u turn 16 u can only get up to green belt so yeah bullshit..

  • i like that man. better that than when you see kids who do tkd or karate with black belts lol

  • Gracie black belt is still the most sought after BJJ belt out there.

Too many hacks out there who just give away black belts because of financial reasons.

  • I'm curious about something and hopefully those of you affiliated with Gracie Barra can help.

Carlos Jr has 2 older brothers who are 8th dans and and 3 (living) older brothers who are 9th dans. One of those 9th dans is Carlos Robson Gracie, Renzo's father and technically (with the passing of Carlson Sr. RIP) the patriarch of their side of the family.

How come none of them got to present Carlos with his 7th dan? Is there a rift between them? Will he not except rankings from them? Anybody know?

  • hes right though, jiu jitsu is incredibly good therapy, I've got more out of bjj as a source of therapy than months of therapy with A freudian psychoanalist

  • ANAList....hahaha im not sure if its misspelled but..idk man...also i know what hes talkin about that brand of belt sucks..haha

  • ingles carioca ... haha engraçado e ridiculo ... mas o kara eh foda !

  • I've been out of MMA for a long time and WTF happened to Renzo, he's got a belly??? he was soo skinny and in shape back in the early 90's. Did he stop fighting/training?

  • This might've been when he had injured his leg and was out of training for like a year. Either way, he's still coaching and teaching.

  • I remember i read somewhere that: 1-6dan is black belt 7-8 dan black&red belt and 9-10 dan red belt

  • What id give to get to a black belt.

  • A black belt is nothing more than a belt that goes around your waist. Being a black belt is a state of mind and attitude.

    - Rick English

  • well said

  • @cobrajitsu what about royce gracie's quote? "A black belt only covers 2 inches of your ass....you have to protect the rest"

  • @cobrajitsu A black belt only covers 2 inches of your ass. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu covers the rest.

    -Royce Gracie

  • How is Renzo related to Carlinhos jr. ?

  • Renzo Carloinhos's nephew.

  • no red is the highest

  • i really don't know how it ranks in colors.....but i do know that black is the highest..... i want to know how the colors rank by order.......

    please help thanks............

  • white, blue, purple, brown, black, red/black for master then solid red for grandmaster.

  • For BJJ it is. White,Blue,Purple,Brown,Black, Black and red, Red.

  • Red belts will never be given out.

The 10th degree red belt is limited to the pioneers of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: Carlos, Oswaldo, George, Gastão and Hélio Gracie, also known as the Gracie Brothers.

  • Actually your half wrong and half right. True only the original 5 Gracie brothers will ever hold the rank of 10th dan.

However red belts will still be given out in BJJ. Red belts in BJJ are for both 9th and 10th dan.

If yo look up pictures of Carlson Gracie Sr. (RIP), Robson Gracie, Reyson Gracie, Reylson Gracie, Rorian Gracie, Relson Gracie, etc. you'll see them wearing red belts. They are all 9th dans.

  • Americans think theyr saw everything ..lol

i hope Renzo never told-them or show them the Taparia....lol, Big Time with hes Brother , whos rest in peace Rian Grace Pit-bull He the one whos like the Taparia on tatame

  • RESPECT!!!

  • i thaught only gracies could be red belts

  • No not at all , But you have to have more than 30 years of Jiu jitsu and over 60 year old. So that requires alot of dedication on the sport

  • my professor was in there at that time =D

  • Holy Shit that is a lot of black belts!!!

    Great vid

  • That has GOT to be one of the most dangerous rooms in the world with all of them in it! :D

  • wow. that was amazing. i honestly thank you for posting this - Logan

  • This is something I never realized before until watching this video. Renzo says that he received his black belt from Carlos Jr. even though Renzo's own father Robson is a much more very high ranking black belt himself (9th dan). Why did Renzo get his black belt from his uncle instead of his father? Did any of Robson's other sons receive their bb from other family members other than him?

  • the final belt is red, then you can get white stripes added to it

  • Fuckin' AWESOME!!!!

  • Carlos taught Renzo.

  • well if ur under 16 then its white-yellow-orange-green then u turn 16 and wen they give it to u then its blue-purple-brown-black-red&black-red and then u earn ur degrees but to get ur black belt u must atleast be 19 i study jiu jitsu and i looked it up on wikipedia

  • well how can renzo a black belt give a red and black belt? considering it's higher belt than he has?

  • he is giving it on behalf of gracie barra.. and for bjj the belts go white-blue-purple-brown-black-black/red-red... you cannot get your blue before 16 and you cannot get your purple before 18

  • white-> blue-> purple-> brown-> black-> red&black-> red

  • wow. holy shit. incredible.

  • great speech!

  • i just got my brown, i'm in a renzo gracie camp in ottawa. Been there for 2 years now.

  • man that's sick. i moving up near ottawa soon and i was thinking of doing bjj there at OAMA. maybe i'll see you there man, peace!

  • yeah thats the gracie camp man.

  • I train there and there's only 1 brown belt who just got promoted about a month ago. He's Pat's co-instructor and has been training there for much longer than 2 years. I call shenanagans

  • Haha. I love it, you busted him, and he never responded.

  • i cant wait to get a red a black belt, thatd be amazing, unfortunatly im still white belt in bjj so ive got a ways to go haha

  • haha yah.. red&black is 7th degree black belt.

Be sure to leave a comment in 20 years when you get it. Good luck!

  • haha thanks bro! if i remember ill actualy do that lol

  • WOW man this is like the coolest. To get your Red & Black Belt - this is the real deal.

  • bem que poderiam traduzir essa porra para português.

  • Esta foi a entrega de faixa mais emocionante da história do Jiu-Jitsu. O Renzo e o Carlinhos são simplesmente o máximo!

  • He sounds like Christopher Walken. I want to hear him say "I gotta have more cowbell baby!!!"

  • LMAO @ lifts plate off table + in the end he just asked "Who won?"
