  • Cant blame Les for going after Becks Strat, I mean come on, you are going on stage with Les Paul and you bring a Fender !!!!!!!!! Just kidding, easy does it Fender guy !!!!!!! But it IS Les Paul !!!!!!!!!!

  • he has all kinds of extra pickups on that thing

  • I know the Strat is JBs baby, but jus once when Les Fuckn Paul is jammin wit u: Shouldnt u be playin a Les Paul. I think it would have been cool and its jus kinda courtsey u know?

  • OMG Les Paul & JB this is fantastic!! thanks for sharing:)

  • what a gem. thanks for the upload

  • Why didn't JB play a Les Paul?

  • ah yeah just classic

  • Is Beck actually using a pick in this?

  • What a Savage Jam! Des Immortales !!

  • It's moving seeing those two on the scene together!

  • anybody know when this was recorded? Mid 80's?

  • loved this! the best talent and havin the best fun!

  • Beck used to play Gibson Les Paul guitars, WHY NOT DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF HIS "CHILDHOOD HERO!?"

  • How do you get VCR to Computer? Send me a PM if you need to, cause I just gotta know!!

  • Beck CANT SHINE HIS SHOES.....the FATHER of the moderen electric guitar and a genius of the highest order.......rest my dear dear friend you will NEVER be forgotten

  • Les Paul! The greatest to ever play the guitar I believe!

  • Most "shredders" would have soiled themselves in Les Paul's presence.

  • Rolling stone mag. Has no credability, hasnt for years. I saw Les paul live in new york city back in 2007. He was playing Gibson Les pauls that night. He played only Epiphone Les Pauls.. And he didnt miss a note. He was 92 then and played 3 houres.

  • The thing about Les was he was realy a Jazz guitarist, but he could lay down Blues, Rockabilly, C&W, and "Rock" riffs with the best of them. A Musicians-musician. His production skills were groundbreaking. So when he died why did it hardly get mentioned in Rolling Stone? No cover pict, and what, a page or so article? Gee the man only basicly invented the electric guitar and was a Rock and Roll pioneer. RIP Mr. Polfuss. Those who know will always miss you. The rest are listening to Lady Gaga.

  • Billy Squier should put that LP down in the master's presence.

  • The wad of duct tape was because his Line-In socket was busted. So he had to tape it all down or there would have been a risk of the sound failing

  • The downside of having lots of knobs @ 5:38.

  • if your parents were friends with Les Paul and as a child he visited your house often who would you grow up to be?

  • @yunwi1 Survey says: Steve Miller

  • @dancingrizz Number One Answer

  • Could you imagine Jeff using a Strat. Les Paul was known to be pretty witty, he would have said something funny.

  • If Les had a son I think it would be Jeff Beck.Genius, pioneers

  • Who's giving the intro. He starts out playing a gibson and then a tele.

  • 8 don't like it?

    Clean yours ears!!!

    VERY VERY VERY GOOD!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Les Paul is like 80 years old in this and still is ripping it.

I now know what Zen is in the afterlife is...Wherever Les, Jimi & Stevie are jamming.

  • If Ritchie Blackmore were generous enough he could have played too with Les Paul for fun.

  • How old is this video, Les Paul looks so young

  • I have never understood the supposed Fender/Gibson rivalry in the minds of musicians. Neither guitar is really superior to the other. I can say this because I am a luthier it is my profession to know instruments. They are different tools for different jobs. To me that argument is as silly as a bunch of painters sitting around arguing about which brush head is the most useful. Banter aside very cool love to see both these guys play. We miss you Les!

  • @Tangledintothemystic Well said. When my 1960 Les Paul was made, you could tell by the sound what it was. Now with the computers you can make any sound you want. Brian May rewound the pick ups on the Red Special, until he had the sound he wanted. Now, you can run a program and copy any sound you wish. Sure is great to watch masters at their craft anyway!

  • Fantastic, tho I see no wad of duct tape.

  • That thing Les is playing was found under Captain Kirk's bunk!

  • OOh Yeeaaah

  • Love it! Les Paul unplugs Jeff Beck's guitar!

  • Happy Birthday Les paul !!!!!!!! \o/

  • dude. i would send you money if you remaster this!

  • @mezzyjezze .... just send the money...lol

  • HaPpY BiTtHdAy LES PAUL

You always be in my mind .

    R.I.P. PAUL

  • Happy Birthday!!!

  • dear the 7 ppl for disliking this video...ur an idiot.

  • Les Paul doing motherfuckin' sweep arppegios, swank skankin' and holdin' tight with Jeff") THANK YOYU FOR POSTING THIS.. Music is LOVE

  • les paul vs. fender

  • @redwashre who r u talking too ???... I have my copy of blow by blow .(lp,cassette,8track,cd,dvd,mp3,aiff.wav....yawn)

  • @rknrne jeff most used guitar is the fender strat

  • @VitorMartinsCunha ....? I don't live in a cave....you'd think I might know this info.

  • Thank YOU, rknrne, for uploading this. What a THRILL it is to see Jeff

with his childhood hero - "The Wizard of Waukesha"! Les's having a

great time and is right in his element! Please don't reduce it to America vs. Britain.

  • @TheRepub ...glad you enjoyed it .... Great to see JB's tribute to Les Paul w Imelda May

I hope the producers of the music biz get off their asses...( the donkey's)

and look at what ppl are saying about nostalgia and its importance in mainstream music.

Do we need more 'blackstreet boys' & mtv produced reality crap ... It has run it's course as this generations Partridge family shhtick...!

  • @TheRepub OMG !! I have always been a huge JB fan and of course Les (Goes without Saying) ! But somehow, I had never heard this before Thank You, Thank You

  • ok, old people do freaky things once and a while, that's the way it is, cool vid.

  • Ahaha, this yank goes down in the ages.

  • that riff at 7:07 gets me every time

  • How come JB isn't using a LP?

  • God Bless Les Paul.

  • they r competing to see who makes he most ought thing... Les Paul is crazy there n Jeff Beck is not the most "standard" guitar player arround... both are awesome n the hell we know how they play n what they can do... but they didnt play the blues this time, i guess it was about fun, not about playing the blues or making meaningful music.

I didnt like the crazy stuff les paul played this time... is just fucked up.

  • @victorthegroover i thank they aren't so uptight they can just JAM dude...nothing worse than a musician too snobby to outright jam!

  • @rosskstar i hope he had fun, it looks like he did, but i dont like it. have a good day.

  • @victorthegroover idk but les paul is pretty respectable so i think he can ultimate pick row row your boat and no one would say anything to him

  • @polock1993 i love les paul, i just didnt like what he did there... is my opinion.

  • they r compiting to see who makes he most ought thing... Les Paul is crazy there n Jeff Beck in not the most "standard" guitar player arround... both are awesome n the hell we know how they play n what they can do... but they didnt play the blues this time, i guess it was about fun, not about playing the blues or making meaningful music.

  • Apparently Les used to ask Jeff "What are you doing with that peice of shit?" in a joking manner when they jammed.

  • Les Paul is a benefactor and Jeff is one of the 2 best guitarists ever.

  • L|P cud do with a bit more volume

  • it looks like a space guitar with ol the nops and switches

  • why so little of this ?? STUNNING STUFF more please someone

  • lets put it this way IF THERE IS A REAL GUITAR GOD THERE HE IS RIGHT HERE ON YOU TUBE R.I.P. LES PAUL

  • This is like Tiger Woods meeting Jack Nicklaus ,Its like Muhammad Ali meeting Jack Johnson,Johnny Unitas meeting Tom Brady .This is GRREEEAATTT!!

  • And look!! Jeff is using a pick!!!!

  • AWSOME

  • Wanted to see this since I saw mention of it in an early '80's issue of Guitar World.

  • i love how squire pulls out his telecaster once les paul comes out

  • If this is about 1983, then Les is about 68 y.o in this video - only a year older than Jeff Beck is now. WOW - using Les' and Jeff's physical appearance and abilities as a gauge, I don't see why Jeff won't be playing well into his 100's. :) Jeff looks younger today then Les did at the time, and Les was able to keep laying until his mid 90's.

  • Yeah...LP pulling JB's cord out was a nod to the Great JB

    Great Vid. !!!

  • God bless you for making this video available to us.

  • The greatest living guitarist in the world and the dude who laid the entire foundation. Cool video.

  • Well this is unheard of, beck playing with "Les Paul" using a "Strat"

  • All I can say is WOW!!! It just dont get any better, take notes young men!!!

  • sh!ty video quality, historic footage. i give it a 10

  • Les Paul is - was - a phenomenal talent. I don't know how old this clip is - certainly pre-arthritis days. Les does his best to update his licks to keep pace with Jeff but he is really from an earlier, sweeter era when melodic invention rather than pyrotechnics was the benchmark of musical genius. But then Les' genius was as inventor as much as musician - so much so that the instrument he invented (with a little help from Gibson luthiers) changed music for ever and ensured his immortality.

  • I remember watching this on TV as a kid.

  • King and Prince having good diner......RIP the King.

  • I think the guitar Les has is one of his studio models and not the normal road one. Notice the small box on the end. That is his "lespaulverisor" as such. It is a recording device hooked into the guitar.

I don't know about redickubucks but in real money a few million I'd guess.

  • 6:20 --> Il Bosso Novo.

  • Ha! Lester got the last word. Did you catch that last lick of the song? Whew! What a player.

  • @aliceband2 Because you've contributed so much? Lame youtubers, a post-World War II Hungarian pengo for a dozen.

  • I love where Les pulls JBs cable out of his guitar!

  • @superbeavo I think I would've too @ that point !!Jeff's strat sounded a lot better

  • @superbeavo That was such an historic moment! People still remember it from all those years ago, great fun with two of the most innovative guitarists in the history of music!

  • Funny how Jeff is NOT playing a Les Paul here.

  • MY GOD. Les Paul is a legend.

  • Haha, Jeff Beck got all dressed up

  • Wow! What a video. They all were having the greatest time--such talent.

  • i saw les paul 10 years ago at his regular tuesday night gig at iridium in nyc... he was 81 and could still shred..

  • That old fart blows everyone away. and this isn't even his best. what a tremendous talent.

  • @ACoustaDC Well, Beck is now older than Les was at this point, I believe.

  • was Les playing a...... Dusk Tiger prototype? i hope not :/

  • could you picture jimi and les up in heaven now doing this with SRV and other greats that have passed

  • RIP Lester Paul, You wont be forgotten

  • Jeff honers Les by playing a strat ! Go figure.

  • @ozzyks7 That man introducing I believe is Billy Squire

  • 'Billy Squier intro with Les Paul & Jeff Beck trading off riffs.'

That's what the sign said Osama............

thanks for the help lespaulverizer .

It is astounding the amount of confusion Billy Squier has created to some of these braincramped post-ers

  • correction "gangsterest"

  • To see an old man in yellow sweater gettin sick with the guitar is some of the gangerist shizzle I've seen in a long time. Much love Les.

  • Les Paul vs. The Strat Man.

I can't believe I haven't even seen this video until now. Unbelievably awesome!

RIP Les, and thanks Jeff for keeping real guitar playing alive.

  • Gotta love Les Paul.

  • @blueswater4

Erm, yes it most certainly is. That's why he's introduced as "Mr Jeff Beck" and comes on with a strat.

  • Great video: two innovators playing, having fun and respectful of one another!

  • What's "monkey squeez"? And did he "literally single handedly" revolutionize the way records were made? I bet it took both hands.

  • @blackmetalcreed Si, fue muy dificil de entender! Mas facil que mi espanol, probablemente! BTW, the whole Costa Rican thing was an attempt at a joke... Apparently humour is as lost on you as grammar. OH NO HE DIDN'T! ;-)

    Gravemente, su inglés es excelente.

  • les probably wasnt too happy when he saw beck walking out with a strat. o_O

  • Billy knows his role and gets out of the way..lol

  • @claypigeon77 You are so right. Billy is an amazing (underrated) guitar player in his own right, but he is also a class act as a musician and human being. He understood that this jam was not about him, and stepped back to a supporting role.

I remember hearing him speak about this show in an interview. He was asked to host the premiere of Rock and Roll Tonight, and given the freedom to do what he wanted. He wanted to do a show about guitarists, and chose two that he greatly admired.

  • Holy shit at 5:27 thats so Jan Hammer its not even funny

  • hahaha I respect the shit out of jeff beck but he was kind of an asshole for coming out with a strat.

  • @TheSchoolsux345 erm... why? he played Les Pauls for ages before moving to Teles & Strats, and besides, Les Paul didn't have a huge amount to do with his 'signature' model?! His original solidbody guitar was nothing like it and his hum-free pick up isnt the same was as the humbucker we all know today.

Look at his guitar. Is it like a Les Paul Std? No! It has low impedance p/ups and many other electronic tricks! He was just a name (at the time) of selling guitars! Fact! His name sold guitars!

  • I love the contrast in tones...its like old generation swing meets the new psychadelic rock.

  • What im trying to understand, people went all stir crazy wen MJ died. But half the world doesnt even no Mr. Les Paul! Sure they heard of the guitar, but they never knew tht it was a real person! If it werent for Les, There would be no rock and roll. No jazz, no blues! Nothing!

  • the les paul and the strat... 2 different yet both truly beautiful musical instruments..

  • its funny because at the Grammy's Beck played a Les Paul for the in memorial of Les :)

  • rest in peace Les Paul..

  • this was such a big deal when it first came out. - the talk at high school the next day was - 'did you catch when les paul ripped jb's cord out ??' - evh also kicked holy ass on this show.

  • This is just great to see love it. Thanks for posting this.

  • I bet jeff loved that night

  • I think one of my top 10 guitar thangs is Jeff doing Goodbye Pork Pie Hat...my back is going all crawly just typing that in....!

  • YUP Les turned ther music world on its' ass.

  • given his time era, les paul is a classic shredder!

  • Wow this is an amazing video. Jeff Beck really is the best.

  • les paul is a god. although i prefer strats to les pauls

  • Les was the man. Inventor, musician. He's to us what Henry Ford is to carmakers. Jeff is a genius

  • Les had to be near 80 at this time and he was still kicking ass! He not ony kept up with the "kids", he might have shown them a few tricks too. Great stuff. Les seemed to like playing with Beck, they got along really good.

  • since leo wasn't a player, I'd say this is the strat verus paul showdown. The winner is anybody who hears it.

  • Les Paul is GOD just for pulling out Becks imitation guitar!

    BIG UPS TO BIG LES!!

  • damn, this is awesome! They are truly great guitar players.

  • How Fun... did you see Jeff try to de-tune Les's guitar towards the end?? :-)

  • Les Paul is like a big kid out there. I love the try to pull Becks chord and turns his own off in the process. Good times

  • Hey people- Jeff Beck plays les pauls too- he just favors strats now for the tremolo. Besides, do you honestly think Les Paul gave a fuck that people played fender guitars?

  • beck's tone is what dreams are made of. he can sound like like anything from blues harp to a sax

  • @turnagegp a guitar as well hopefully!

  • whats alll that evil shit hes got strapped on tyhat frankintar

  • les paul wins

  • here is a pioneering, guitarist, inventor, entertainer, all around terrific person, and oh yeah jeff beck's here too!

  • beautifully strange gorgeously weird!! outstanding

alien phrasing!!!!! who are these guys!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry billy, but you should have left the stage and got the beers !

  • That guitar Les is playing would be worth squilliions in todays ridickubucks

  • @Rikk303 Evidently Les isn't that keen on the tremelo arm...luckily Jeff plays with fuse wire thin strings and can nearly bend an octave on one fret! Classic union this...maybe not the best music ever but a heart-warming spectacle nonetheless

  • i'll vouch for that lol

  • @Rikk303 Thank god it's on display at the rock and roll hall of fame

  • @Rikk303 Ohhhh yeahh .I'd pay at least 5 squillion if i had the doughfactory. LOL

  • @Rikk303 NO! this is a rock icon its like the red special of brian may they dont worth anything never, and if so, they would be out of the price range of everybody

  • @blackmetalcreed Is English your first language?

  • @jlunniss hi, no I´m from Costa Rica we have good English in here d:

  • @blackmetalcreed Haha, ok ok, I'll forgive you. Your English is far better than my Costa Rican!

  • @jlunniss BTW we speak spanish lol

  • @blackmetalcreed Haha, ok ok, I'll forgive you. Your English is far better than my Costa Rican...

  • @Rikk303 Jeff would only let one man unplug him onstage, and then smile. Great character! He's a good Brit.

  • so Jeff hits Les by playing a Strat?

  • @Rikk303 yea first thing i noticed =D

  • Everyone has their own brand of guitar they like, just because you're playing with the creator of a Les Paul does not mean you have to play that guitar.

  • @SkylineBNR34 an electric guitar is basically a plank of wood with pick-ups..it's up to you (and treatments) what you make it sound like

  • @Rikk303 That's true, but I personally don't like the feel of Les Paul guitars, I much rather play a Strat instead.

And every great guitarist has their own sound, even if they use the same guitar as one another.

  • @SkylineBNR34 yeah, totally agree there. A pro guitarist came round one night and did things to my rather nice Takamine that I thought I should be considering either counselling or legal intervention!.Have owned a Black Beauty...not keen....am playing an Epi SB..loving it.Check out Seasick Steve and his kit.Strange breed us guitarists. ATB Sky

  • @SkylineBNR34Seasick had an amazing name for his album, something like "I was born with nothing, and still got most of it left" Good huh?

  • @SkylineBNR34

    I agree!!

Nothing bites harder with a note than a strat!!!

  • I can't help but come back to this video. Love watching Jeff Beck and Les Paul have fun jammin with these two songs. It's great to watch them play off each other.

  • JB looks like he takes things way too serious,,, he needs to lighten up. I'm not saying he's not a fantastic player.

  • HA HA HA WHAT IS THE BEST VIDEO IVE EVER WATCHED LES PAUL A SET IN HIS WAYS JAZZ PLAYER AND JEFF NO RULES PLAYER THE COMBINATION IS HORRIBLE YET IT WORKS, THAT WAS A FUCKING BATTLE I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS THAT WAS AMAZING, LES IS HUMORS, THAT WAS THE DIFFERENT BRANDS AND THERE DIFFERENT WAYS, HA HA HA! BATTLE OF THE BRANDS! les paul and stratocaster, WHEN HE PULLED OUT THE CORD I WAS ON THE GROWN IN HYSTERICS, I'M STILL LAUGHING, RIP LES. YOU GAVE ME MY VOICE!

  • Can't believe I found this. I saw in when it first aired! I want to say early to mid eighties.

  • lol one of my faves the LP then get introduced mr jeff beck and has his strat slung on LOL classy jeff

  • 5:11

hey boy, cut that whammy garbage out! *yank*

    haha, gotta love les paul.

  • 5:22

oh no you don't not again*dodge

    haha, gotta love jeff beck.

  • les unpugged jeff, fuuny stuff

  • Actually, Beck was originally a Telecaster player, switched to a Strat, took up a Les Paul in the mid -70s and then, I believe went back to a Strat.
