The thing about Les was he was realy a Jazz guitarist, but he could lay down Blues, Rockabilly, C&W, and "Rock" riffs with the best of them. A Musicians-musician. His production skills were groundbreaking. So when he died why did it hardly get mentioned in Rolling Stone? No cover pict, and what, a page or so article? Gee the man only basicly invented the electric guitar and was a Rock and Roll pioneer. RIP Mr. Polfuss. Those who know will always miss you. The rest are listening to Lady Gaga.
I have never understood the supposed Fender/Gibson rivalry in the minds of musicians. Neither guitar is really superior to the other. I can say this because I am a luthier it is my profession to know instruments. They are different tools for different jobs. To me that argument is as silly as a bunch of painters sitting around arguing about which brush head is the most useful. Banter aside very cool love to see both these guys play. We miss you Les!
@Tangledintothemystic Well said. When my 1960 Les Paul was made, you could tell by the sound what it was. Now with the computers you can make any sound you want. @superbeavo That was such an historic moment! People still remember it from all those years ago, great fun with two of the most innovative guitarists in the history of music!
@blackmetalcreed Si, fue muy dificil de entender! Mas facil que mi espanol, probablemente! BTW, the whole Costa Rican thing was an attempt at a joke... Apparently humour is as lost on you as grammar. OH NO HE DIDN'T! ;-)
@claypigeon77 You are so right. Billy is an amazing (underrated) guitar player in his own right, but he is also a class act as a musician and human being. He understood that this jam was not about him, and stepped back to a supporting role.
I remember hearing him speak about this show in an interview. He was asked to host the premiere of Rock and Roll Tonight, and given the freedom to do what he wanted. He wanted to do a show about guitarists, and chose two that he greatly admired.
@TheSchoolsux345 erm... why? he played Les Pauls for ages before moving to Teles & Strats, and besides, Les Paul didn't have a huge amount to do with his 'signature' model?! His original solidbody guitar was nothing like it and his hum-free pick up isnt the same was as the humbucker we all know today.

Hey people- Jeff Beck plays les pauls too- he just favors strats now for the tremolo. Besides, do you honestly think Les Paul gave a fuck that people played fender guitars?
@Rikk303 Evidently Les isn't that keen on the tremelo arm...luckily Jeff plays with fuse wire thin strings and can nearly bend an octave on one fret! Classic union this...maybe not the best music ever but a heart-warming spectacle nonetheless
@Rikk303 NO! this is a rock icon its like the red special of brian may they dont worth anything never, and if so, they would be out of the price range of everybody
Everyone has their own brand of guitar they like, just because you're playing with the creator of a Les Paul does not mean you have to play that guitar.
@SkylineBNR34 yeah, totally agree there. A pro guitarist came round one night and did things to my rather nice Takamine that I thought I should be considering either counselling or legal intervention!.Have owned a Black Beauty...not keen....am playing an Epi SB..loving it.Check out Seasick Steve and his kit.Strange breed us guitarists. I can't help but come back to this video. Love watching Jeff Beck and Les Paul have fun jammin with these two songs. It's great to watch them play off each other.
HA HA HA WHAT IS THE BEST VIDEO IVE EVER WATCHED LES PAUL A SET IN HIS WAYS JAZZ PLAYER AND JEFF NO RULES PLAYER THE COMBINATION IS HORRIBLE YET IT WORKS, THAT WAS A FUCKING BATTLE I DON'T CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS THAT WAS AMAZING, LES IS HUMORS, THAT WAS THE DIFFERENT BRANDS AND THERE DIFFERENT WAYS, HA HA HA! @Rikk303 Evidently Les isn't that keen on the tremelo arm...luckily Jeff plays with fuse wire thin strings and can nearly bend an octave on one fret! Classic union this...maybe not the best music ever but a heart-warming spectacle nonetheless

i'll vouch for that lol

@Rikk303 Jeff would only let one man unplug him onstage, and then smile. Great character! He's a good Brit.

Everyone has their own brand of guitar they like, just because you're playing with the creator of a Les Paul does not mean you have to play that guitar.

@SkylineBNR34 an electric guitar is basically a plank of wood with pick-ups..it's up to you (and treatments) what you make it sound like
Rikk303 1 year ago
@Rikk303 That's true, but I personally don't like the feel of Les Paul guitars, I much rather play a Strat instead.
And every great guitarist has their own sound, even if they use the same guitar as one another.

@SkylineBNR34Seasick had an amazing name for his album, something like "I was born with nothing, and still got most of it left" Good huh?

@SkylineBNR34
I agree!!
Nothing bites harder with a note than a strat!!!

I can't help but come back to this video. Love watching Jeff Beck and Les Paul have fun jammin with these two songs. It's great to watch them play off each other.

JB looks like he takes things way too serious,,, he needs to lighten up. I'm not saying he's not a fantastic player.

Actually, Beck was originally a Telecaster player, switched to a Strat, took up a Les Paul in the mid -70s and then, I believe went back to a Strat.
