@uniformfred Actually I think felt is ok for morning dress. It's permissible. Not evening dress though. It's hard to find silk tophats in medium to large sizes because apparently people in the old days were all malnourished and had smaller heads.
I think it's all the more acceptable in grey. You are correct, however, it does seem that everyone was small headed then. Perhaps that's a comment on modern society? Interestingly, vintage uniforms (19th Century, especially) were retailored smaller when they were reissued, hence the small Victorian stature myth in that regard. I suspect that bigger sizes were worn more and wore out quicker.
@uniformfred In my searches for antique clothing I've certainly come across a lot of sizes, may of them large. One consistent factor though: they certainly loved a lot of room in the seat area of their trousers back then! Larger bottoms? I couldn't say.
That is the perfect Peguin costume!

Quite surprisingly, your outfit is relatively correct formal morning wear attire. For this, I applaud your knowledge of what is proper daytime wear.

Indeed, you are correct about that, a black silk top hat is on my list of items of haberdashery to acquire.
