Actually if you dont have the normal battery holder, you will have to have some type of metal bridge (paperclip in this case) between the two batteries or the circuit will not be completed and the controller will not work. Also the TP is required to keep the batteries from moving. This is somewhat of a ghetto fix but it is a fix for those that have lost their original battery holders nonetheless.
