Although the 400D does not have the bells and whistles of the 450D, it actually takes much better pictures than the latter. If I want to upgrade from my 400D, I'd go for the 50D or 7D - not the 450D, which produces lousy pictures.

I have both, and you are completely wrong. Before you out a body for producing "lousy pictures", not only from first hand experience have I proven that completely false but so have every other comparison review of the two I have seen. The technology is much improved in the 450D over my old 400D, as well it takes nicer pictures and has better features to boot. Perhaps actually "try" the camera before trying to sound like you have first hand experience.

Also, keep in mind that the 400D has the old Digic II sensor, where as the 450D and 40D both share the superior Digic III sensor.

I used to have the 450D and it shoots great pictures. I just got the 500D which is very similar to the 50D but about $200 less.

the biggest change is the 12 bit-14 bit--thats like a tonal range of 4000 upgrading to around 17000---way better camera --im selling both of my xti cameras -idd get the 40 d but this xsi has some advancements that the 40d didnt get -but the 40 d has 6.5 fps --idd rather have the higher megapixels of the newer xsi-since they both have 14bit processing

Not bad.

12mp and 10.1mp is no biggie unless you plan to print large posters. Live screen is good for landscapes(tripod) not much else.

The one thing that rocks is the IS lens. I take alot of night shots with the XTi and without a tripod it is hard. Now with IS it will be easier without the tripod.

i think this new 450d is way to good compared to the old 400d, the new menu and feature show there is a lot of improvement... 12 megapixel, better hand grip (slight bigger), had that several feature like the 40d and other high-end professional camera, the battery also change to a bigger one and have that live view feature that enable user to take picture using real time view... this enable you to take picture by remote control + AF functions via pc. but the price is still unknown

i own EOS 400d and it's great. i don't like buttons (display and menu) above LCD by new 450d. it looks not handly so much. i will keep my 400d :D
