I always thought those were "North Georgia Cuckoo's".. Was wondering if you can repost this in reverse? It might shed some light on the Whippoorwill family & apparent dyslexia in this specie. Maybe just a inverse Fibonacci curvature in its DNA?
This is exactly the sound I hear from about 12:00 at night till 4 am outside my trailer near the shore points in southern DE. If my windows are open it will wake me up- it DOES NOT STOP AND IT IS LOUD. So yes it is a Chuck-wills widow I checked other sites and Id know this call anywhere
I go back and play this one over and over!! Gives me such peace. I wish it was longer. I'd buy it!! So cool that you got the whippoorwill, peeper frogs, AND a summer thunderstorm all at the same time. AMAZING
Same here in Arkansas. Reminds me of summers in the deep woods around my Aunt's house. It's so amazing that it was all going on at the same time and you caught it on video. If it ever happens again, make a long one!!!

I truly hate these birds!!!! This is not a sound you can sleep to. It's more like a neighbor's yapping dog that's been left in the backyard all night long. No sweet slumber to be found out my house until June....when the bird moves on.
Thanks for posting the call of the whipporwill. I remember hearing them when I was very young and living in the country. The recording of this bird brings up wonderful memories of a peaceful lifestyle.
Great video, used it to share with a friend from the north what a whippoorwill sounds like....love going outside at night to listen to them and the storm in the background was a nice touch!
thuderstorm, but to me it looked like the Vietnam War lol. Anyway, really good video. Finally know what a whip-poor-will sounds like. Been wanting to know since I read Rascal. 5/5 man
Yes it's a chuck will's widow, not a whippoorwill. I have to explain this every time someone hears one in South Carolina. One was in a tree tonight calling for a mate and as I drove down the dirt road one was sitting in the road, and I had to drive around it.
This makes me miss home in Blythe, GA. I grew up to that sound and I told my grandfather I wanted to actually see one, so we followed the sound and shined the flashlight right on one. I was so happy.
Thanks so much for posting this video. We have a WHIPPOORWILL in our yard but weren't quite sure what it was until we saw your video. Love the lightining in the backgroud, looks like my house in Florida!!!
what kind of birds do we ear in the background ?

Two separate and distinct birds. I made the same mistake.

Thanks to all for the corrections on the identification of this bird from a Whippoorwill to a Chuck-Wills Widow. Let me know of more.

I believe this is a Chuck-will's widow, and not a whippoorwill? Although they are so similar...

I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I guess it's just normal country life around here in North Alabama. I can hardly wait for spring time weather again.

Wow, that was great!! The bird, the lightening, the summer night sounds!! If it was an hour long, you could sell it.
