To Ike's everylasting credit, after touring the camps himself and telling locals that they had made him ashamed that his name was Eisenhower, he ordered that all servicemembers in the ETO and all local inhabitants be made to tour the camps. He wanted no one to be able to say that they didn't know and for there to be such a cloud of witnesses that no one could persuasively deny the truth of the Holocaust.

Look at the sailor running in place at 5:46. For 24 years I have wondered if that was some sort ot punishment, as he is the only one doing it and in the closeup he doesn't seem to happy.
