  • Rock On ... Steve Marriott has got a GREAT voice. Love It!

  • RIP Stevie and on his behalf I say ' screw you Don Arden , may you rot in hell with all your ill- gotten gains, you lived a rich life at the expense of the real talent , guys liek Marriott , Tony Iommi , ELO , they are the real heroes , you were just a criminal

  • @Cincinnatus1869 especially Ronnie

  • Steve Marriot was one of the best rock vocalists ever

  • Steve has finally been nominated for induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a Small Face.

  • @gropingwithastoker

There will be no justice until he is inducted for both Small Faces and Humble Pie. Packet of Three kicks ass too!

  • anyone that does not like this has no soul or passion!!! PERIOD!!!

  • I would give anything to have Steve's voice

  • The greatest white soul singer. Utter genius. And the Blackberries were just fantastic , sprinkling pixie dust on everything they sang on.

  • Steve Marriott was an outstanding performer.

  • I dont know how 12 people or even 2 could dislike this sonG!!! whats wrong with this world lol...i love this song

  • On a side note, does the host of this great Humble Pie video (comes on at end) not have the scariest set of post-war dental work ever seen on this side of East London?

  • @m1jordan thats whispering bob harris who used to host The old grey whistle test on bbc 2. still has late night show on bbc radio in england.

  • That's how it's done!!!

  • AMERICANA

  • Marriot & this band were one of a kind. This is Rock N Roll.

  • There are a number of times in this video when Clem looks at Steve with a look that seems to say 'God this guy is good'. And you know, he's right.

  • This makes me think that perhaps I was born in the wrong era. Damn it all.

  • I was born in 1967 and only knew the music of Steve Marriot in 80 years. Passion in the first heard.

Too bad that he left us so early!

  • Marriott was one of Steve Perry's favorite lead singers.

    this song rocks!

  • not only is he good he is enjoying the shhht out of this preformance

  • Steve Marriott and James Dewar are in a different class than Robert Plant imho,

  • one of the best singers ever our steve

  • I just voted it down by one because some of you cats are just too insecure in your ROCK!

  • Stevie is singing with the angels you can count on that!

  • Fantastic tune!

  • One from the new double album Eat It.

  • the sistas singing background are just KILLIN it ....stevie knew what he was doin back then.... some happenin soul singin there

  • the male janis, I feel kinda bad comparing the two,NOW DONT GET ME WRONG, I respect her she is a legend.I just think ( my thought) steve is everything she wanted & tried to sound like. & just about every one has heard of janis, But there is only a few who even know who this man was! ( except us true music lovers) the things people miss out on!

  • Steve , did you taste some of the black coffee ? Aw hah , I saw that wink . That's how cool he was , if the sisters dug him , he must have been a bad mother fucker . Just an all around talent that knew how to rock ... screw radio , screw how many hits he had , radio is all rigged anyway . Nobody did it better !!

  • Jimmy Page was looking for a vocalist that 'sounded like' Steve Marriott. As good as Robert Plant was/is , Steve is still the best ever.

  • @starsinmybeard robert himself would have no problem agreeing with that

  • Jesus, I thought I loved Robert Plant's voice. Steve is unbelievable.

  • There is no question - Steve is the Guvnor.

  • 12 some serious fuckin' idiots did not drink the black coffee today!

  • One of the many great things about Rock n Roll is taking 3 sentences and producing a Kick Ass Groove like this one! Looks like Steve blazed one up, right before the Jam!

  • Marriott was a leader. He also wore his heart on his sleeve. A joy to see live. Uncompromising. Original.

  • 12 complete morons !!! This rocks hard !

  • I like brown sugar with my black coffee.

  • there are so many highpoints, but love at the end where the ladies all laugh, so cool

  • So mazing!!!!!!!!

  • 12 Teabaggers?

  • Kick Ass group ta' boot! RIP Steve Marriott-----what a tragic and nasty loss of a great talent ! I wanna go back!!!!

  • great color and film for 40 years old............god i could sure go for a cup of coffee right now :)

  • @guitarbob63 Apparently the Brits used 1' tape stock where as in America we used 1/4'...according to my brother, who is a film/video producer.

  • Steve Marriott has got to have the best voice... Ever. The way he screams 'Black Coffee' so casually at the beginning. Lord.

  • Humbie Pie and Steve Marriott got me through high school. I never strayed far from their music, went to EVERY concert they played at the jersey shore and when Steve died in that fire, I felt like I died a little too! What a great blues rocker he was and THIS period represented the apex of their band career. After Frampton left to do his 'wah=wah' thing - Humble Pie changed and the rest is history. Gigagetwaodi, thank you SO much for this gem. When I hear it, I'm a kid back in high school!

  • It doesn't get any better than this!

  • WOW! Oh, that man can sing Mississippi delta blues, oh yes he can. I got to get me some Humble Pie!

  • really wonderful skill singer.

  • i'll eat up that humble pie til the day i die.

  • this floors me - Marriot was an absolute one of a kind gem.

  • caughted

  • In my Top 5 of Rock Band vocalists, i found people like Robert Plant, Freddie Mercury and others, but my favourite is Steve Marriott,. Why?, because his powerful vocals, soulful ring style, since the first time i heard it (small faces lps), i´ve been caughted by his distinctuve voice. And what a better way to watch this talent, just like the Ike and Tina Turner´s song "Black Coffee".

  • Great Group 3 hotties!!

  • what a f--king band...what a f--king voice...rip mr marriot....mod forever

  • there is aways confused people i hope you guys straighten out all 12 of ya

  • Simply the best !

  • OMG rocknroll has fallen so far from this I'm sure it's completely dead now.

  • @The59801 I agree. just look here, they're just so natural that they don't even have to try and their sound is immaculate.

  • amen to that Gozo !

  • a big black man stuck in a little white body:)

  • Der war sooooo gut.Oh Mann

  • vamo ver gente genial para nos dar força para sobreviver.. alguem quer um café forte sem açucar ai?

  • @crusheroftheist I have this in my favourites folder ! if you check my profile you will see i am a House,Garage and DnB dj but I still know a good blues / band , dont label everyone that dislikes something as a rap / hip hop fan.

  • 12 fucked up idiots to be exact

  • AI... BLACK COFFE....

  • @crusheroftheist black coffee, gr6 tune, but really ALL "pie" is good!!! ;o)

  • STEVE !!!! BRILLIANT !!!!

  • 12 people add cream and sugar.

  • Let me say this . Steve Marriott was the best of the best in his time . Nobody can compare to this but Chris robbinson of the black crows . Do your homework people . It only comes along once in a lifetime . Open you're idiot ears & think . Neeeext ..

  • @billbluez I love teh Crowes , but Robinson is no Steve Marriott

  • @billbluez No his voice isn't anywhere close to matching the easeful soul that Steve Marriott had.

  • @kdj997 Paul Rodgers voice was pretty convincing as well

  • @billbluez I'm sure that if Steve were here today he'd tell you that Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, etc. were some bad ass dudes, the best of the best. And you could ask Chris Robinson if you get a chance, he'll most certainly concur.

  • That Voice! Never heard anything like it! Well okay, once, but that guy's band isn't famous yet :)

  • More Coffee! Thanks! Mitch

  • Oh I adore this...Steve smiling at the girlies...the lyrics, that voice...How much more kick ass soul could anything ever be. God Rest ya Steve...and thank you.

  • 12 dislikes? there are some serious fucked up idiots out there!!!!!! Rock on

  • ain't it the truth -

i lives like i loves and i loves like i lives, roadrunner baby !!

  • That's soul, man. Damn.

  • I don't know how, but I'd forgotten this favorite. Thanks for the posting. It is great!

  • why the LAST CREATURE sgnarling

  • damn, marriott always looked happy.

  • Comment removed

  • Love this video, Steve looking so happy & sounding amazing as always, but that dude at the end scared the crap out of me!

  • @Topkat311

The Guy at the end is "whispering Bob Harris" he used to present the " Old Grey Whistle Test" and has legendary status for rock fans in the U.K.

The show gave many of us our first glimpse of bands like Humble pie, Free, Jethro Tull, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steely Dan, ZZ top, as well as Zappa's "City of tiny lights set to plasticine animation" etc, So many of us owe Bob a debt of gratitude that we can't hope to repay.

Probably the least scary guy on the planet.

  • @mcpokes cool! i never knew who this Bob Harris guy was, but i'd heard his voice on The Who live at the BBC CD i have. Did he do radio work as well?

  • @TheRandiniarolla , he's older now of course, but there's no mistaking that voice

If you search for bob harris radio 2 you'll find his web page

  • deffinately like strong black coffee!!

  • This is the essence of Rock and Soul. Only got to see Steve and the Pie twice. R.I.P. Steve, was a pleasure to have a beer and a laugh with you in 1971!

  • I sit and watch him belt out songs like this and I'm just awestruck.

  • 12 people have their ears on backwards, it seems...

  • @bonesoldnews

probably die-hard Small Faces Fans ;-)

It's out of fashion to like Steve post SF, especially HP era.

  • @UvaYakone Then color my ass out of fashion! Whatever color that might be!

  • looks like 12 people's hearing is somewhat impaired...

  • Great performance! WHOA!! Who is that host that appeared out of no where and freaked me out at the end?

  • That's Whisperin Bob Harris the show was The Old Grey Whistle Test. Us old English boys weep with nostalgia at the very mention of the show.

  • This is a fuckin TUNE - I love it and I'm drinking Black Coffee as I watch Yes!

  • Gotta love TOGWT

  • the start of this track

    is stunningly

    fabulous

  • the greatest thing about this little vid is the interaction between steve and the blackberries trio; there is such a lot of mutual respect and -yes- love on display, it bars description.

if you like this, don`t miss the 1973 live recording humble pie did with the blackberries, for the king biscuit flour hour. in it, they do the DEFINITIVE version of "I don`t need no doctor" - and steve introduces the blackberries as "his heroes"; no mean feat!

one of the very finest music clips on youtube.

  • @shotdonkey I think they're like "holy crap can that boy sing or what?" Close your eyes and one would swear he was right out of a choir in a southern Baptist church.

  • AMAZING!

  • marriott...one of the most talented people ever, without a doubt

  • The lyrics say it perfectly- My skin is white but my soul is black.

  • Comment removed

  • God do we miss Steve and at best he's in God's choir with Otis Redding,James Brown,Wilson Pickett,Dave Prater,DAVID RUFFIN,Eddie Kendricks,LEVI STUBBS etc.

  • I've had it with Starbucks, I'm home only thanks to coffeeloverstipsandtricks (.) com

  • wish the volume worked better on this video, it is a great tuine and would really sound good LOUD

  • u forget peter frampton shared lead

  • @quahog900 Peter Frampton had left by this point. The guy playing slide is Clem Clempson. Also a great guitarist but this clip is Stevie Marriott's show!

  • The original Modfather

  • perfect backup vocals , good video quality

  • what i wouldn't give to hear a commentary on these lyrics, from the singer in the middle. I want to hear what SHE has to say !

(Love this by the way, thx for posting !)

  • 12 people are obviously deaf.......

  • hope your watching mr paul weller, steve marriott is the real modfather...end of

  • @MrMallyd

I think he would agree as Steve Marriott is one of his all time idols

  • @MrMallyd I think you'll find Mr Weller would be in full agreement with you!

  • Simply amazing!! Talk about some soul singing!

Oh and Clydie King....what a beauty!

  • Don't look any further

  • @sirsnave it's all downhill from here . this is as good as live performance gets

  • The Ikettes and the Raelettes are two different groups of women, neither of which searching photos and videos show Venetta Fields, Clydie King and Billie Barnum, of the Blackberries. You can go to Humble-Pie site for info on them

  • Comment removed

  • fuck! this is THE best video

  • those same gals sang with Ray Charles......the Raelettes

  • @Mygrassisblue01 Actually, those are the Blackberries featuring Vanetta Fields who was also an Ikette.

  • @bewandr look it up on Wikipedia, they sang for Ray Charles first as the Raelettes, look up Humble Pie band on Wikipedia,

  • @bewandr , Marriott hired three female backing vocalists, 'The Blackberries'. The trio consisted of Venetta Fields, Clydie King and Sherlie Matthews who was later replaced by Billie Barnum. They had performed with Tina Turner as the The Ikettes and with Ray Charles as The Raelettes.

  • @Mygrassisblue01 Check the individual pages for Venetta Fields, Clydie King and Sherlie Matthews where there is no mention of Ray Charles or the Raelettes. Besides, Wikipedia is a less than reliable source for information. Ray isn't mentioned anywhere on Venettas website.

  • what a band they were! love this clip thanks heaps for uploading ROCK ON

  • He ist black by heart.

  • how these guys are not in the hall of fame is a travesty

  • @MrMrSubvet I'll give you a possible reason; They didn't honor their fans. I went to see them and they stood there and spit on the crowd. yes SPIT INTO THE CROWD

I really love these guys, but after someone spits on you, they lose something. ya know

  • tOO SWEET

  • talent. nuff said.

  • Can I just go back in time, and have him? Please? He's so freaking gorgeous I cannot stand it!

  • is that a voice or what?

  • Marriot was such a star!!

  • What A Voice Man!!

  • @cgb1050 Long live the Black!berries !!!!

  • 37 years later and it's still a pleasure to watch. This video is dripping with soul and blues. Thank You to the person who originally posted it.

  • Little Stevie Marriott exuded so much talent, it was ridiculous.

I am still in awe, after all these years.

My black friends at work are completely blown away at this video.

They say he's really "got it".

He definitely has the "it" factor.

  • when music rocked :(

  • Ahh...the great Stevie Marriott! There'll never be another....more's the pity.

  • Eat this one Mr Devlin

  • Excellent Blues from one of the greatest Stevie Marriott......The system failed him, Peter Frampton failed him, Frampton was brought into the limelight bt Marriott, as soon as things were rosey he quite the band for commercial wealth, leaving Stevie to fend off the money sucking managers and record producers, SHAME ON YOU PETER FRAMPTON....he needed you to help keep his head up, YOU FAILED

  • @CHEAPFK he was a work colleague not his wife or parent....

  • This is great! I like this better than the studio version, plus them sweet soul sistas was sangin they ass off! I think the Blackberries were the Ikettes of Ike & Tina Turner Revue. Love Steve Marriott!

  • My god that Les Paul sounds good on the neck pickup.

  • WHAT HAPPENED TO THE AUDIO?! This song is one to enjoy LOUD! Can't do that when I've got to crank it up just to hear it in the first place.

  • In those distant days when the English had some decent singers.

  • had the pleasure of working at BIBA South Ken when NBC did some film of them in the Rainbow Restraunt with Procel Harem, Steeleye Span, Kinks - met Steve in the lift - saw him jammin' with the Blackberrys before formal shooting - just vocals - what a man and team - awesome

  • freaking awesome

  • i love, love, love how happy steve is in this video, it brings me great joy...god, what a voice, sooo sexy.

  • He's so cute when he's singing to the women. LMAO!

  • Unique voice and felling! I did know them, I am very impressed.

  • Saturday night, bottle of wine, missus out, fuck the TV off and listed to some Humble Pie!
