  • No do not use lard for anything to do with cake making unless you have a desire for it to taste like PORK! ick. And yes even supermarket LARD has a prok aftertaste.

  • Hi there. I was just wondering if (supermarket) lard can be used instead of shortening when working with gum paste?

  • Not really because Lard is mainly used for breads and doughs or sometimes cooking. Besides it has that quite a distinctive smell that I wouldn't personally use when I'm doing my gumpaste.

  • Unless you make flowers without wires they are not edible. But you wouldn't eat a Picasso so why would you eat ART. Besides you may break a tooth!

  • Gum paste and fondant are not the same. Gum paste is stronger than fondant and dries hard and crisp.
