  • i hope i did it right...

  • KAI?

    DRTV?

    BOKEH

  • @eggrolls11 Not sure what you're asking me. Can you clarify?

  • @kaituba theres a channel on youtube called DigitalRevTV (DRTV) and they have a host named Kai who says BOKEH a lot

  • @U23Drocs OIC. I'm not familiar with that Kai (not me!), but bokeh is a term that I hear thrown around a lot, but it seems it means something a little different depending on who you talk to. Does that Kai review digital cameras?

  • @kaituba yes but he has also done a review on the Holga

  • @U23Drocs I'll have to go check that out. Thx.

  • @kaituba ill send you the link in a private message

  • @kaituba Hi I have amateur Yashica 35 me from 1972 and it is still working perfectly, but the film winds clockwise. My question is is it the right way, because on your camera is different and on every other video I saw the film is not winding clockwise

  • @maral430 Depending on the camera, the film will wind in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction. There isn't anything to worry about if your camera winds in the opposite direction from the video.

  • @kaituba ok thank you very much!

  • um ok can the way you load the film affect the pictures?

  • @OptimusPrime241 No, unless it is loaded incorrectly and does not run through the camera smoothly.

  • thank you!

  • thank you!

  • thank you for the detailed tutorial!

  • i have a cannon eo5 rebel gIII i need to learn how to load it!!!! anyone!?

  • @newoxvx I couldn't find specs on a Canon EO5 Rebel GIII. Did you mean the EOS Rebel GII?

With the newer 35mm film cameras with built in motor, it is pretty simple. You make sure you have fresh batteries in the camera. Drop the film in the left hand compartment. Pull the film leader across the film gate to the right side of the compartment. There is usually a red or orange marker showing how far the leader needs to be. Close the camera and it will automatically load the film.

  • So helpful thankyou very much! I'm very much a digital person but thought i'd experiment with film (FM2) and this tutorial was perfect! :)

  • Thanks for the help!

  • can't believe people forgot how to do this

  • THank YOu so much!! i just bought a vintage camera, its an Aires penta 35, so this video was awesome!!:)

  • Kai,

I opened the back up and wound the spool with my hand. It is counterclockwise. However, the crank arm will only go so far to the right, it does not turn the film spool on its own. Is there something I need to push down first? (I am completely new to film SLR)

  • @entoblast Each SLR will have it's own quirks. The lever won't necessarily advance the film the whole way in 1 throw. The lever is ratcheted, so it may take 2 or 3 workings of the lever to advance the film 1 frame. If the film is not advancing, check the rewind button to see if it is stuck. It should reset after tripping the shutter and advancing the film. If the advance lever does not turn the take up spool, there may be a problem with the camera.

  • @kaituba I bought film today for my Ricoh. When I go to advance the lever it does not move the film? It moves outward but will not advance.

  • Hmm, (forgive me im completely new to this) The shutter button wont click down also?

  • @entoblast Shutter button not clicking down might be a problem, but it is more likely the shutter won't operate without a battery. Have you replaced it? There is usually one shutter setting that will work without batteries. Set the camera to the 1/125 shutter setting. This is the flash sync speed and it should be in red or green on the shutter speed dial. If you see another speed (1/60 or 1/250) in color, then try that shutter speed. Batteries? You need two LR44 batteries.

  • @entoblast I just read online that someone with a Sears KS2 (a rebranded XR7), had a stuck shutter, but after using a cable release to trip the shutter, it became unstuck. A cable release screws into the cable release socket, usually in the middle of the shutter release button or nearby. Pushing on the button on the end of the shutter causes a plunger to come out that trips the shutter. It may be enough to unstick old or gummy shutter lubricant.

  • Kai,

I was gifted a Ricoh XR7 recently. I am unaware if the film winds counterclockwise. Where do I find this out?

  • @entoblast Open the camera back, trip the shutter and work the advance lever. Watch the take up spool and watch the rotation. This will tell you which direction the spool rotates.

  • Thanks Kai!

  • I have a Nikon EM from the early 80s and it took me awhile to get used to how to insert film into a camera. Up until late last year, I haven't shot film in almost a decade. And I had also forgotten that on some SLRs-like U mentioned on this video-that some models you have to insert the film and the spool goes counter-clockwise. Thanks for posting this video, you brought quite a bit back to memory for me.

  • Thanks, I've just loaded a kodak film roll successfully into my nikon fm2n by following your luminous video! Thanks again!!

  • thank you :)

  • Thanks, i am interested in the fm2n so this a good video!

  • thanks a lot! i have a nikon FA and this video still helped me load it

  • Great video! thanks so much!

  • Very helpful!! Thank you so much. :)

  • helpful. thanks for making it. :3

  • this video helped me the best too! thank you for making it!

  • this video helped me the best

  • dosnt the camera have to be in a black room so the film dosnt get exposed?

  • @itouchQueen no. the camera and film cassette are designed to be used in daylight.

  • this helped me more than my photo teacher !

  • thanks for the tip on folding the leader, helped out a lot!

  • is that how they shot photos back in the olden days?

  • @heitzelalvarenga Most of these older 35mm cameras use one or two of the button type battery, which you can get from your local camera shop, drugstore or Radioshack. Look in the battery compartment. The type and voltage of the battery is written in there somewhere.

  • Well, I actually worked it out! But I still have som problems when it comes to winding the film, if you get where I'm going. But at least I managed to load it!

  • I like this guys voice.

  • thank you!

  • is it the same with FE? in that case, it doesn't work. but you're really good at explaining. :)

  • @mQkk2k I'm pretty sure the FE loads the same way. I have one around here somewhere. What seems to be the problem?

  • This was a fantastic video!!!! I have tried and tried to do this with many other videos, but nothing came close the the great direction of this guy!!!

  • This video is really useful to me. Thank you!!

  • Hey Great Review! You Save My Grade! Thanks!

  • I have used this youtube to help my students learn to load their cameras. Thanks.

  • @rpsiakis Thanks for the feedback! I am glad you find the video helpful.

  • @rpsiakis Are there any other videos that you would like to see made ?

  • how do you find the Fm-2... Im thinking of getting the EM or the FM3a

  • @WiLmAn07 The FM2 is my favorite 35mm SLR. The FM3 is a good choice. The EM seems a little limited.

  • @WiLmAn07 fm3a is handeling like a fe2 but then all mechenical, it has a hybrid shutter (mechanical, electronical) but good choise. I would also go for the fm3, because it has a really easy readout in the vieuwfinder

  • @Pinguing1 cheers mate

  • Way too waste of film... I always shoot on the frame 0 on my FE and never had any problems with it. Also, as soon as the film is inside the slot, I don't turn it so much, just a bit to be sure it is tight there (maybe you did so to show to people). But really, I think you wasted at least two or three pictures there...

  • hey man i need help i got a zenit 12xp and a pratica film camera but im so confused on how to load them can u help please !!!

  • @danofazz While I don't have the videos you need, you can find one for the Zenit on youtube. Do a search for Loading Zenit. It may not be the exact same model, but it should be close enough. If the Praktica is a later model version, it should load similarly to the one I show here. If earlier, it may be similar to the Zenit. On early model SLRs, one diff is that they use wind knobs, not the winder lever.

  • Fantastic :)

  • Damn, my one doesn't have the levers to crank it (it's an auto basically). Do you know how to load film into a camera like this? My french trip is less than a month :\ Thanks

  • @gerbilplay4 Your camera just needs batteries. The way these cameras usually work, is that you insert the film (like in the video). Pull the leader across the film gate, and there is usually some mark on the takeup side of the film compartment where you pull the leader to. Close the camera back, and the film automatically winds to frame one. After each shot , the film will automatically advance. At the end of the roll, depress the rewind button and the film will automatically rewind.

  • HELP: I just realized I loaded my film wrong. I slipped the film in the outer slot and turned or winded the film IN instead of out (or clockwise instead of counterclockwise). What does this mean? ANYONE!

  • @brattette You have a different camera than mine. If the rotation of the film goes clockwise, that is normal for many 35mm film cameras. The take-up spool will wind in the direction it was designed to, so I wouldn't worry about it.

  • thanks

  • nice Nikon. how much does it cost? respect

  • @stefanDMS Not sure of the current cost. $150-200 used, I would guess.

  • In order for the film to load properly does the camera need to have a battery in it? I am not able to advance my film because the mechanical lever does not go all the way back like yours. The lever stops mid way. What could this mean? is it broken?thanks

  • You my friend are a lifesaver. Great Video.

  • Good video, thanks!

  • okay this may not pertain to this topic but.. I've been thinking of getting into film photography and buying a nikon fm 10. I have no clue what film photography is or its importance besides it using a film. how do you upload (if there is a way) film photographs on your computer. say if i wanted to upload so i can put it on on my myspace/facebook.? thanks.

  • mine just stays on 's'

  • do they even make 35mm's anymore that aren't disposable or complete crap?

  • is the knob supposed to turn even when its on the picture slides and ur manual cranking it?

  • The rewind knob will turn slightly when advancing the film, but not always, since there might be some slack in the film cassette.

  • thank you for making this video!!! the little hint about folding the leader saved my life.

  • I have minolta x 300 and canon ae-1

  • hi thanx i am in media talent in my school and i was having trouble loading my film thins helped alot!

  • good video, but the film on that camera was going clockwise, not counter clockwise.

  • The take-up spindle in a Nikon FM2 rotates counter-clockwise, looking at the bottom of the camera.

  • Thankyou very much :D

It's the first time i've been able to do this without asking someone!

  • omg this vid. just like saved my life..

lol im doing a school project a

  • thank you! best vid on loading!

  • Thank god.... i have that camera and this is the first time i've had to load an old-fashion camera

    XD

  • This week I was on ebay looking for an FE. One listing, the rewind lever was broken because the seller didn't know about the safety button and forced it, saying, "I had a difficult time opening the back, but managed, however the rewind lever is now broken off."

Unbelievable. Thanks so much for posting this fact. I did read the manual on line prior to purchasing my FE (not the broken one)

    :o)

  • thanks.. saved me a lot of headache!

  • thanks

  • thanks for this, showed the process so clearly compared to other videos!

  • Just as silent like a nikon fe2, but the f3 is even more silent because of the rubber cloth shutter. And yes I know, I had al three of them

  • uh.. i turned the slot thing (i think u called it the take up spindel?) without using thing to turn it at the bottom, so i actually put my finger on the actual slot part and turned it that way... i'm afraid that now i've left fingerprints on there, and the film will come out badly. should i worry?

  • Thanks man!

  • Thank you, very useful video. I've been getting into operating my DSLR in full manual which was enough to convince me to take the plunge and get an old Nion FM to play with.

  • plan to buy that camera !,

just got a question will black and white 35mm film work with this also ?

somehting like the Kodak Black & White 35mm Film ISO 400 Exp 36 x5 ?? and how can i change film into digital copies? so i can put it on computer !

    thanks !

  • 2:10

  • thank youu

  • See how close the fingers come to the shutter curtain OUCH !!! The film leader also snaps back over the shutter curtain. I load my film by placing the leader in the take-up spool first, then holding the cassette pull the taut film over the shutter and slot the cassette into the camera. This minimises the risk of damage to the shutter curtain. I leant this from an old press photographer.

  • Cheers for the Vid Kai. Just bought myself an FM2 and being a purely Digital shooter I found this video really useful. Worked perfectly first time. These things are generally straightforward when explained properly.

Now I just have to figure out all the other things on this camera like using the exposure meter etc.

    Thanks again

    Robbie

  • oh this is great - i have a nikon fm but have had some trouble loading it - now it seems i wont have as many problems. thanks for uploading :)

  • I could NOT figure out how to load film into my Nikon fm2 because I'm so used to the automatic loading, but this video was very helpful! thank you so much! :)

  • ok , what if the leater has gone into the slot and can be winded up , but then stops because the holes in the film are not catching on the little nobs anymore ?

  • Are we talking about the nobs on the take-up spool? It's possible that there's too much slack in your film leader, allowing it to slip free. Try bending the very end of the leader, and give it another try.

  • what if the rewind button isnt spinning at the last part....?

  • It's possible that the camera is set up correctly, but that there is a bit of slack in the cassette. Take 3 or 4 more pictures and keep an eye on the rewind knob. If it still does not move, then you need to open the camera back and reload the camera. Also, make sure that the knob is in the down position, not slightly pulled up for loading.

  • Nice Video, Kai ! I'm still digging my FM-2 after all these years.

  • But that's clockwise...

  • perfect!

  • thank you!

  • i went from an FM2 to a D60 little people know this but don't listen to what Nikon or the merchant say, i had about $1200 in old AF lenses from the FM2 and yes they work perfectly on the digital d60

only draw back if the lens has an automatic setting it won't work, so you'll have to go manual

  • Great video!!! Helped me a lot....

  • Thank you! This is the best video I've found for loading film into a 35mm. Very helpful! Thanks again!
