1998 is OBD 2 sensor I think your car has a ignition modulator box somewhere on the inside of the fender wall on the driver side check that It sometimes causes the car to stall or not start You may also find a used ignition module at PICK & PULL and swap it Make sure all connections in the distributor is good. ANY NISSAN MECHANICA ONLINE ? please try to help Jayr
@jayr122001 It depends but basically service engine soon light is the most misunderstood signal in modern cars. If it is burning steadily it is always related with the emission system! That can mean that oxygen sensor is burned or even just that you have started the engine gas tank cap open. My '98 Intrigue had service engine soon light on, and it went through obd scan and nothing was broken. Except that I had forgotten to close the gas tank cap!
@jayr122001 Good luck. There are many on this public forum who can help you but you must be specific in your post. What make model and year is the car. What was the code retrieved from the OBD memory. Are there any other indications of the problems like Missing cutting off ECT. how many miles is on the dash, are you the original owner . is the problem occurs is it constant or intermittent, A technician like a doctor can learn a lot from details. If you re post the problem i will help
@nesgael1 almost a month ago we brought the car to a transmission shop and they fixed the problem cost me $450 but after a week or two the car stop running in the middle of the stoplight so we bring ut back again in the mechanics they said theres a problem with gas filter or somethng so we paid $150 to fixed tht but after a couple of weeks tge engine stopped working again in the middle of an intersection.now the mechanics is working on it again they said maybe the prob is in d wiring or somethng
@jayr122001 Whenever an engine stops without the key being turned off you will generate a fault code.Things that cause the engine to stall at a stoplight is, the loss of - or a bad signal from a sensor like the cam or crank sensor or mas airflow meter. Fuel pressure check is a good start, find the recommended pressure for your vehicle. a bad wiring connector to a sensor would produce a low voltage or no signal condition to that sensor. Plug in a obd scanner and crank, get the code to show
@jayr122001 Also with a OHMS meter check the fuel injectors for consistent reading from 1 to 4 injectors Put a long screwdriver to the injector casing and listen for clicking or use a mechanic's stethoscope. I know the altima has a knock sensor a bad Knock sonsor will cause erratic performance and backfiring and stalls Check the timing of the camshaft tot the crankshaft the engine will run badly if you skip a tooth on the belt
