@ mominfrance -there is nothing wrong with freezing baby food. It does not take away the nutrients at all, and it's easier to do batches of baby food then daily. Fresh as in just made?? it is still fresh if you make homemade baby food, freeze, thaw and serve. wow people are crazy
I think it's great that you make your own! Store bought baby food is expensive and has alot of nasty additives. I'm five months pregnant and excited to make my own when the time comes, that way I can use only organic produce.

Wow, your system is so complicated. I would have given up long ago LOL! I just throw things in the steamer & leave to pick up the bigs from school & then throw it into my blender. It's usually whatever the rest of us is eating that day. I don't freeze anything, don't want to lose those nutrients.
You don't need to freeze or process bananas, I just mash it up with a fork and squeeze a bit of orange in and it'll mash up fine enough for even the smallest baby. Then I feed it right to him, fresh.
@mominfrance I'm with Information Mommy about freezing because I only have to do it once a month (or so) instead of every day! But I know fresh is best. :)
@theredheads2 it only took me about 5 minutes to peel a few extra carrots or cut up a bit more squash or whatever we were eating and cook it with our food and then another minute or two for blending it. I'd make enough for 3 days. That way I wasn't spending a whole afternoon making food and my babies ate a more varied diet rather than a whole month with just a few choices...
Mmm, banana and plum sounds super yummy. I love food videos! When I do sweet potato for Colton I usually bake it in the oven with my squash and just place it on tinfoil to catch all the runny sticky syrupy stuff that comes out of them, then the skin just falls right off. What age can you start the beans with most babies? I have started green beans but no other types yet. have you started any meats with Porter yet?
@DawnMarie81 It's seems like lots of people bake sweet potatoes... I will have to get that a try. I tihnk you are supposed to wait until closer to 8 months for the beans. And we have tried meats but he hates them pureed, so he gets to eat meat as finger food
Great video. I love making baby food too. Its so much fun, and taste testing is the best part! Its weird how different countries call the same thing. Here squash is just called pumpkin. One of Hunters favourites is butternut.
@TheKiwiMummy It is !! And yeah different countries do things so differently. Oh funny about the squash... pumpking and squash are two different things. But Porter loves Butternut the best too !!
Your house must have smelled so good. great video, I miss making baby food. my baby is a self feeder now and won't eat purees or be spoon fed anymore. it was something i really enjoyed doing.
whenever my mom makes squash she usually bakes the squash without cutting it and it makes it really moist and it keeps in a lot more of the natural flavor. when it is done baking it is really soft and easy to cut open. so she scoops out the seed and then the squash and it is really good
@GoodwinMary Interesting... I have never heard to do it that way... I will have to try that next time. I can never cut them myself and Blake always has to help me... so this would make it easier :)
im so glad someone did this as when my baby is born i want to make my own baby food so im defiantely saving this video for when baby is old enough to eat

Loved these videos... did you leave skin on the plums?
jazman2929 1 year ago
@jazman2929 I should have mentioned that. I actually peeled them with a potatoe peeler.

I have one of those steaming baskets, I love it! Good video! I miss making babyfood.
imissjerry87 1 year ago
@imissjerry87 I think those baskets are way cheaper than buying professional steamers... I love mine too :) And thank you !
InformationMommy 1 year ago
With the sweet potatoes is it better to steam them or bake them? Ive always baked them. Great video=)
fatsammers 1 year ago
@fatsammers I am not sure it matters that much. Baking probably preserves more of the nutrients now that I think about it. But either way works :)
