  • The greatest!!!!!!

  • what did he do drugs?

  • @Lecluyse2000 no he did not do drugs,if he is guilty for anything it is being truthful he told everybody his warts and get persecuted for it. these people today need to take note from a man who told it how is,I guess its better to lie like they do today?????

  • @harajukugirlloveandG No he didn't do drugs but he drank like a son of a @#$%. He was absolutely truthful about all of the failures that he did in his past I agree. He even stood before a group of up and coming athletes and said to not follow the ways of his past. Class act all the way around!

  • Mantle was all around better than dimaggio but both are Yankee legends. First its the Babe, than Mantle.

  • @Foo3112 Sorry sir but it's Babe ,Lou and then micky ! Lou would of been the best ever if not for ruth .

  • what a cool name, they say he could be a prick but he sounds real humble when he talks

  • i got yogi berra, bob gibson and whitey fords autographs anyone can u tell me how much there worth it would mean alot to me even if they were worth nothing.

  • @retriverlover97 ebay will show u what ppl are willing to pay for em

  • @retriverlover97 ok thanks :)

  • dimaggio was great but mantle was better

  • definitely one of the greatest!

  • the greatest player ever in my opinion, every night drinking and hanging out in bars, waking up and showing up at the baseball field hungover and puking, every part of his body is injured and despite all of those problems he was able to produce some of the greatest hitting seasons ever, just think how good he would really be if he took care of himself

  • I'm probably in the minority here but I would take Mickey Mantle as the greatest all around CF of all time. Because of what he was able to accomplish on one leg.

  • @FRSFreeStateES AGREED

  • I was watching the MLB network on the 75 greatest catches, and they did not mention micks catch in the 56 WS that saved don larsons perfect game which has never been done. i cant imagine way that catch is not in that all they do is hit us over the head with mays catch, why is a two handed catch better than an on the run back handed one?????

  • @harajukugirlloveandG Agree that Mick's catch should be in the top 75 maybe top 20 .

Mays' catch though deserves no1 because of the magnitude of the game(WS) and the simple fact that Mays ran farther with his back to home plate than any other player making a similar catch. Then he spins instantly and makes the throw.

  • @MJVESSIO That is the point how much more magnitude can you get than micks catch a (WS) catch that saved a perfect game? maybe I am missing somthing, they are both great catches but mickeys means more!!

  • @harajukugirlloveandG I stupidly forgot the WS perfect game. you are so right. It's a top 5 catch that probably only Mantle makes because of his great speed.

  • Derek Jeter may be big in New York, but Mickey owned New York

  • roger maris was better

  • @yodaddyxx HOW DO YOU FIGURE THAT BECAUSE HE HAD ONE GOOD YEAR??

  • @yodaddyxx ur a fuckin retard who probly doesnt know anything exept 1961

  • @mantletiger suck that dick faggot

  • @yodaddyxx dude great comback, the fact that u think maris is better than mantr=le just proves uve probly never payed attention to baseball. Maris had 1 season better than mick

  • You gonna sit there and tell me mickey mantle never took steroids for his bum legs??? stop being a god dammed hypocrit. Steroids were rampant during the 1960's...

I get so sick n tired of morons saying the steroid era began in the 1990's..ROFL

Baseball has been infested with horribly credibility and a black cloud of suspicion over the entire span of MLB dating back in the very beginning

HYPOCRITS! All records in baseball are tainted and suspicious..MLB has been a joke from day one

  • @MatrixFactoryGuy From the looks of your name i can see why you push steroids,do your homework they did not! have steroids back in the 50,60's,if they had of had them mick could have played thru, his injeries and would not have had to retire so young??maybe he could have played like a-roid??????

  • @jesse0576 that is a crock of shit, why because people say he was his problem started after retirement better than mays by far?????

  • When did he hit his last Grand Slam?

  • That singer was Teresa Brewer, Mickey's favorite singer.

  • My brother was at Tiger Stadium in 1968 when Denny McLain offered Mickey a fat one that he hit over the right field fence. He said McLain tipped his hat to Mickey as he ran around the bases. It was his last appearance at Tiger Stadium. He might have been the most perfect baseball player I ever saw.

  • he died of liver failure due to alcoholism

  • The Mick was my favorite baseball player. Whoever thought someone would replace Joe D. The Yanks were blessed with two great centerfielders.

  • Man as a true baseball fan this footage is beautiful..Even if it's about legendary yankees..

  • My Great Grandfather (Clyde Richardson) was Mickey Mantle`s cousin on his mom`s side. They grew up together in Oklahoma.

  • I saw Mantle's last home run in Fenway Park in Boston in 1968. A line drive into the right field bullpen. But what surprised me most was the way the poor guy limped around those bases. He had to be in tremendous pain.

  • I tried to run like Mantle. I tried to hit like Mantle. I wore number 7 and played center field. The worst thing that ever happened to my hitting was when I knocked one over the left field fence. I then thought I could do it again. My batting average fell as my swings got bigger. But, i loved watching Mickey Mantle play baseball.

  • Imagine if the Mick took care of his body, didn't party and had two solid knees? The Mick was awesome.

  • He would have been the best there ever was.....he would have also hit more home runs than anyone else.....

  • I want to thank dancemutt for uploading these gems, truly a piece of glorious history that I hope today's kids can appreciate and learn from..

  • Is that what killed Mickey Mantle?

  • RIP Mickey you are my hero

  • The summer of '56, I played little league baseball for the first time. I played centerfield and wore #7 just like my hero Mickey Mantle. I wanted to be Mickey. I wanted to play like him. And my coach even called me "Mickey" and that made me feel great. I'll never forget Mickey Mantle.

  • I was 5 when I was sitting with my dad on the 3 level in Yankee stadium. Micky ran out to center field and I'll never forget that # 7.... He was my hero than. To bad the kids today have to look up to the pieces of crap athletes today like Dennis Rodman and Michael Vick... Very few heros today in sports.

  • im only 26 years old i never saw Mickey Mantle play i only know footage of him as a ballplayer through Yankee MLB films my grandfather told me stories of Mantle as a boy and he has always been a baseball legend in my eyes now i have 2 sons of my own and they are learning about Mickey Mantle the same way i did my oldest is 5 and he knows that the number 7 jersey belongs to Mickey Mantle

  • he didnt steal a liver you fuckin momo. the doctors and the national transplant inst. even stated for hs condition, blood type, need, and location he was first on the list, and on the list theres no names just numbers, Mick was human being like us all who make mistakes, but in the end he adkitted and righted his wrongs. He is the definition of a ball player, he is the best Yankee ever, not Ruth not Gehrig, the mother fuckin MICK #7

  • i'm 60 he's still #1 still got a letter from him 1962

  • @realfunny7 I'm 60 too, and I'm with you about Mickey. We grew up with the the best. That letter must have big such a huge thrill and I'm sure it still is.A home run in the mail !

  • wow, you're not bitter and hateful at all are you?

Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest ballplayers that ever lived.

  • Mickey Ruled I really like this post, where can I pick up this footage? P.s. No Steroids needed here! He's big too and didn't even workout! (Except with glasses and bottles)

  • Mickey Mantle is still my Hero. To the asshole who said he was no hero, he should look in the mirror. Someone said he "took" a liver from some kid, wow, that's ridiculous. A kid so sick and dies is sad, but they don't even know who they are yet, Mickey was a God, plus, he waited his ass off too. And before you throw stones, maybe you should fill out your "donor" card so they'll be room for everyone to get it. Scumbag.

  • He apologized for his behavior at the end of his life. He said he was no hero, and he blew it. He told the young to stay away from drugs and alcohol. He was not a asshole, because

he came clean in the end. His true colors came out in the end.

  • wow... Cast those stones brother...

  • Mantle accomplished more in 18 year's as a Yankee than any living player today. He was a 7x WORLD SERIES CHAMPION, 16x All Star selection, 3x AL MVP and is currently 15 on the Home Run list.

Some of y'all here act like he died in his 20's. JHC, he was 63. Let the Icon RIP. On a side note Arod makes more in one day than the Mick did in a year. Divide $33,000,000/365 and that's about Mantle's yearly salary.

  • He may have been a mess but he hit more HR's than Ted Williams or Ernie Banks, so I think he made Mutt Mantle proud. I just wish I could have seen him play. Born in the 70's, I had Pete Rose, but theres only one Mick.

  • haha my name is mickey jee long life mickey

  • Mickey was The Best Barr None! We love you Mickey! I was wondering, did Mickey hit more home runs left handed or right?

    JW Spring Mount. Pa

  • Mickey hit More HR's From the left side

    372 - Left handed

    164 - Right Handed

    536 - Total

  • It's easy to judge isn't it. Walk a mile in Micky's boots than judge him. You probably don't know anything about him and you are so quick to judge him. Did you know that his father die and suffered at a very young age? He knew what he was in for and may self medicated with alcohol? At any rate it is not up to you to judge, that job is GOD's!

  • I lived in ATL. micky lived in conyers, Ga about 40 minutes away,, long story short,, been the his place many times, He was always drinking, if not drunk, he was a nice man, his wife even nicer. But he didnt deserve to take a liver away from dying children.. thats what I met to say..

  • mickey said his only real regret in baseball was having to retire batting below .300.

  • he got hurt almost every season, Just like me :((

  • Greatest player of all time, if he had taken better care of himself he would have over 800 HR.

  • he is my favorite player of all time

  • Love you Mickey!!!

  • My idol, and one of the greatest of all-time. People can talk about Willie Mays all they want, but if Mickey had taken better care of himself, if he had two healthy legs, and if he hadn't have drinken himself to an early retirement and eventual death, he would've been the greatest of all-time. I still think he was as good, if not better, than Mays, and he had two bad legs and untold amounts of alcohol in him for his entire career.

  • Hey Mick, God Bless You

  • Mantle hit a Home Run every 15.1 At Bats in his MLB Career- #10 All time (Minimum 400 HR)

  • Would anyone know how much a mikey mantle commerative card #4 of 19 would be worth??

  • Wow what a great player. I guess it's safe to say he was as gifted as any man could be. Could run super fast could throw could hit great and when it counted he could just rip a game apart. They just don't make em like they used to

  • Definitely my favorite player of all time.

  • it was a great footage. love the work! how do you get so many viewers! What the secret? Excellent memories

  • I love the nostalgia, there will never be great names with such innocence ever again. Today's athletes can learn a lot from these boyz.

  • Mantle was a winner, bottom line. Everbody played better with him in the lineup. And what about his problems, everbody had them like Ted Williams had four of his best years given to the military. Just count the numbers of rings a player has. Enough said.

  • why does everyone say that drinking affected his career so muc. jeeze.......from his first year he played on two torn up knees that had to be taped from ankle to thigh before every game. ever see a pic of him swinging and grimacing?? it didnt come from booze it was the destroyed knees.

  • In 18 seasons "The Mick" hit 536 Career Homeruns, yet it is thought if he took care of himself he would have been up there with The Babe. Holds the "unofficial" MLB record for longest Homerun at 643 Feet!

  • My only recollection of Mantle was during old timer games but even then he could still hit the ball. Think of the huge salary he could make if he were around today but I think those guys back then just had a love for the game that transcended money.

  • if he didnt drink and was healthy then who knows how much better he would have been

  • o my god, like the bambino X10

  • i mean if he took care if himself

  • could u imagine if he never got all those injuries..and was never drunk or hung over...?!! the Mick wouldve been the greatest thats y i luv him sooo much tho because he played thro all that :D

  • This guy is such an inspiration. So many people make excuses all day long why they can't take initiative in their lives, and people like Mantle teach us that there are no excuses. Left Handed, Right-Handed...it didn't matter. No challenge was too big. He took it on without a second thought.

I think what separates the great ball players from the mediocre ones is their sense of character.

Check out this article about the philosophy of Ty Cobb at "paulneedzaeducation com"

  • mickey mantle was my hero! yes he was flawed but he was real, his team mates loved him, all america loved him, oklahoma still loves him. long live the mick!!!!!!!!!!

  • "THE MICK"....my very first hero....

  • i got a ball sighned by him lol

  • Mickey Mantle is a legend. If he stopped drinking he would've been best of the best. He was an awesome Yankee that deserved what he got. Until he started drinking was when it happened. He got really into it and uhm well :(

  • Mantle had more natural power and speed combination that any player in history. Mays,Rose, ect had better careers but Mantle was the best, build like Mr. America.

  • The GREATEST!!!! What a ball player. A "REAL" Yankee!!! The "MICK" Mr. Baseball.....

  • I grew up watching baseball back when it was free, when the country seemed to be free, but then the strike happened, and now everything is messed up it seems, to roid athletes, to gas prices, the government. Baseball to me was and still is one of the great american pastimes. I just wish life was a little less clusterf*cked and we could get back to the simpler way of life. I wish I could live in the 50-60's with drive ins, a&w's, no internet, a car was for pleasure, the good times.

  • We miss you Mick

  • THE MICK!!!

  • Mickey MAntle say what nihher shut up

  • Im a big fan of baseball and idf mickey mantle lived and took care of himself. He would have been the best of the best.

  • he is in heaven i do believe he did alot of crazy things but in the end he showed us how to repent i believe he is up there somewhere playing ball again hitting a game winner and where he can have fun because god knows nobody is perfect

  • The Mick was one of a kind.

  • Every one needs to read "Mickey Mantle" by Tony Castro. What an eye opener. Still, he was the best switch hitter in the history of the sport, and a great Yankee.

  • Mantle sounded like a cool dude, I wonder if he ever played so good drunk?

  • This audio needs to be in the HOF in the Mantle area. The conversion depicts a young Mantle who properly revered the great Dimaggio. Great Great stuff. My guess...this in 1952-1953 circa....

  • When I was a kid I saw Mickey hit a grand slam and that ball flew further than any ball I ever saw hit out of a stadium. The crowd stood to their feet and applauded for what seemed like 10 minutes...they were just so stunned that a human could hit a ball so far.

  • I have a webpage about the Mick

look for the vid on my profile page with the pic of the two boys and The Mick THEN WATCH IT THE link is seen there

    What a Guy

  • I never saw mantle play, I've heard many stories and read many thing and the guy is amazing. He really is. Greatest player ever? One of them, yes. Babe ruth? No. First of all babe ruth hit pitching that is in little league right now, not much credit, also babe ruth wasnt as valuable. Mickey Mantle came up as an outfielder but he was such an outstanding athelete you could put him anywhere. Also if you listen, his speech hes a role model of what NOT to do.lot of courage to say something like that

  • mickey mantle rocks send some babe ruth videos

  • Could you imagine Mick in todays era on roids? He would have been hitting the ball 700+ ft. I think he still holds the record for longest hr in major league history. I've heard he has the fastest ever home to first time, too!

  • go bless the Mick. All that ability and no HGH. not like Bonds, Clemens, Sosa, Mcgwire, Palmiero and all the rest of the MLB dope gang.

  • damn right man, players today arent shit compared to players of micks era

  • Amen! People who remember the Mick always wonder how well he would've done had his knees been OK. He used to get bandaged up like The Mummy before games.

  • my favorite player of all time what a great american the oklahoma kid

  • Yep, mine too. The Commerce Comet. Dang he could fly and hit with power.

  • Man he was good. But i dont think he was the greatest all-round baseball player like DiMaggio. DiMaggio in my opinion was the greatest all-round but mantle was certainly the best switch hitter. No one could replace DiMaggio but mantle got the closest.

  • Mickey is my sports hero and favorite player, and my screen name is actually a tribute to him. A good and caring man with the most lethal bat in history, in my opinion. He's the greatest of all time. Though I am 15, I look to him over today's stars as the player I emulate and look up to. Thanks for giving me a sports hero to look up to, Mick.

  • You've made a great choice for a role model, Switchhitter07. I saw The Mick play several times in old Yankee Stadium as a youngster. Typical of ballplayers in his era, they ate, slept and breathed the game of baseball. He had flaws like any other human, but was a humble, honest, extremely talented person.

  • I saw Mantle play many, many times. He was very talented, but let's not go overboard. The greatest player ever? How about Babe Ruth? The greatest player of his era? How about Willie Mays? Mantle was an alcoholic and a womanizer. He died much too young, because he spent all his free time partying. A role model? Hardly......and he even said that himself.

  • he just lived everyday like i wouldve if i had his kind of money and he didnt think he was gonna live that long cause everyone else in his family died young. I do agree with you though not thee greatest player but definatly one that will be remembered

  • I'm 16 and I'm right there with you. His swing is poetry in motion.

  • Damned straight, one of the greatest all time. All respect and love from Red Sox Nation. Only wish I could have met the man. :(

  • Mickey was the greatest. I finally met him a year before he died, shook his big hand, and tried to talk to him through my dry mouth. That put a stop to the many dreams I had of meeting him.

  • mantle was always posing for the cameras and all the other ball players just sat there like stumps as he flaunted his many "charms"

  • mickey mantle , obviously the best only if he took care of himself :[ missed by many , switch hitting magic, wonder if him and phil are playin ball up there?

  • Mickey Mantle,My Hero!!!

  • Mickey was the greatest!

    Number 7!

    A Yankee through and through!

  • Amen to that, and to this day no one can hit a ball farther even on droids.Dream on Balco Barry and other Foo Gay zees

  • Thanks for the childhood thrills. May you RIP!
