It's from the name of Tamil King Ellaalan. Besides, there have been Chola naval expeditions to Lanka in support of Tamils there (which of course will never feature in Indian history, cuz to our government only what is North Indian is Indian. rest are regional)

I can give similar examples for numerous other ethnic groups. Even here, by your argument, Tamil Brahmins cannot be considered ethnic Tamils. Among Tamils there are mixes of Australoids, Caucasians (there are fair Tamils too) and various other races.

Wrong. Tamil inhabited Srilanka before singhalese. MIA is a Eelam Tamil not Indian Tamil. Eelam Tamils live in Srilanka for more than 2000 Years. Srilanka used to be two separate kingdoms before Britishers took over. Tamils in the North with Jaffna as capital and Sinhalese in South with Colombo as capital. Indian Tamil live in central part of Srilanka as tea pickers. Civil war is between Eelam Tamils and Sinhalese due to discrimination of Eelam Tamils in their homeland.
