when danny was there every defense his whole career played the pass, dolphins always said they were coming into the season to try to run the ball better but never did. if only he had a decent defense and somewhat of running game.
If Dan Marino did'nt retire sooner than expected and did'nt miss any regular season games in his entire career, brett farve would'nt be able to be where he's now.Changes in the NFL's rule book on depending receivers was the only reason Peyton and Tom got past the TD records. But no other QB has broken the league's passing records in TD YDS ATT COMP and went all the way to the Super Bowl in the same YEAR!, but Dan, he's the "MAN". Bar none he's uncomparably the best ever quarterback that lived.

we have some good offense now like davone bess you saw him against the patriots it blew my mind but its our quarterback take chad henne and his dumbass and start chad penningtion he doesnt throw picks like that moron
The best QB not to win a Super Bowl. When you think about Dan, you think of records, winner, come backs, tough, the special foundations he has created or contributes to, when you think Tom Brady, you think of 2 things, Super Bowl wins and which Super Model is having his Bastard Child.
Dan Marino was once asked which one of his records meant the most to him. He said that the touchdown record mattered to him most because TD passes most directly contributed to winning.
Invadr1 I dont think Marino was ever really known to choke, he just never had a teamand you want to talk about a choker lets talk about Jim Kelly thats choking on it BIOTCH!!!
No dumbass, he just got out played. Choking? Do you even watch football? Choking is Tom Brady in the superbowl vs the Giants or Jim Kelly in four consectutive superbowls he lost. Thats choking...
#89 in these clips is Nat Moore. He had been in Miami for a number of years before Dan, and the "Marks Brothers" (Clayton & Duper) were drafted. There's a story that Moore had been considering retiring but changed his mind and stayed around, as a third receiver, for a couple more years when Marino revitalized the Dolphin passing game. He was a good, solid player, but you can tell he was nearing the end of his career when you see him get caught from behind in this video.
This footage looks like all games from the '85 season. My favorite was Duper catching the ball one-handed. They beat the Jets in that game 21-17. It was the first of 7 straight wins, which gave Miami the ASC East. Along the way they kept the record safe by beating Chicago, a team they'd have beaten again had they not choked away the AFC Championship.
Mike, I don't think you're retarded at all. I just think you're trying to make an obfuscative argument about why a Hall of Fame QB wasn't worth a damn, based on the fact(s) that the teams he played on never won a Super Bowl and that he was once on the wrong end of a disagreement with his back-up over a slant route. Again, for my money, it's Dan Marino over Trent Dilfer every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Yeah every Sunday except for Super Bowl Sunday, and I never said I thought Trent Dilfer was better I just said it doesn't mean shit if u don't win the Super Bowl. But I understand he's your guy.
Just too bad he's ringless. I'm a Bradshaw guy anyway. The point of the game is the RING. You don't get a Lombardi Trophy for stats.
You are kind of fun to argue with. I really like having to look up words to see what you are saying! Obfuscative?
To write that "Marino was about Marino" shows that you don't know much about him or that team at all. Dan Marino was about one thing: WINNING. That was all he ever wanted to do and no one who didn't share that philosophy played for Don Shula very long. He's said, on numerous occasions, that he'd trade all of his records for one of those rings, and he's been saying that since before a lot of those records were broken. Trust me, Trent Dilfer's name will be fogotten long before Dan's will.
BTW, when I visited the HOF last summer, Marino's bust was on display - having been inducted in his first year of elegibility - Dilfer''s . . . not so much. You see, in the eyes of those who know and those who get it, greatness is more than just about championship rings. The contributions a player has made to the league and to the sport also matter.
Miami Dolphin team that lost to the 49ers about a quarter century ago (off the top of my head): QB - Dan Marino # 13 FB - Woody Bennett #34 HB - Tony Nathan # 22 WR - Mark Clayton #83 WR - Mark Duper #85 LT - Eric Lakso # 68 LG Bob (blongs in the HOF) Kuechenberg #67 (that I wore in HS & JC) C - Dwight Stephenson #57 RG - Ed Newman #64 RT - John Giesler #79

Renn- Marino was ALL about Marino. A great example of this is when Kosar was backing him up. Time out called-Marino wants to call a slant-Kosar tells him if you do it's going to get picked- He goes on to tell him how much he studied this team and even told him WHO would pick him off-Marino MFs Kosar-Marino throws a slant and gets picked for a TD-Marino returns to the sideline and MFs Kosar AGAIN! He's a class act! You bet he would trade records for rings but only because HE doesn't have one.
At that point Dan had about a decade more experience with the Shula playbook than Bernie did and I wasn't on the sideline to witness their exchange. So, there's not much I can say/type. However, before you pass (no pun) final judgement, I have to ask if you ever saw the interview he gave when JJ came to town, in which Dan said that he'd told coach Johnson that if he [Jimmy] wanted to run the ball every down that would be fine with Dan, because all he wanted was to get back to the Super Bowl.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
That story comes from Kosar himself. The decade with Shula's playbook has nothing to do with Kosar's talent for film study. If Kosar tells you Jr's gonna pick ya BELIEVE IT!
You are making my point about Marino. J.J. should have said: " Thank you very much! can I be in charge for awhile". It is the QB's job to run the plays he is told to run. Marino should have said, "what do you want from me sir". You just gave a great example of why he is RINGLESS.
I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote. When Marino made the comment about his willingnes to hand the ball off on every play, "what do you want from me (let's use coach instead of sir)" was basically what he was saying. But seriously Mike, if we can put the "ringless" rhetoric aside here, I should hope you can at least acknowledge that Dan Marino won a lot more football games for the Miami Dolphins than he ever lost.

Yes-he won games. Yes-he was fun to watch. But at the end of the day he's got nothing but his personal records to show for it.(Ringless) And it has alot to do with his big head. To MF a backup that had 3 division titles and helped another team to the superbowl shows just what a jackass he is. And I don't even like Kosar! But he had EXPERIENCE! (He did throw a GAME WINNER to send the Cowboys to a Super Bowl.
I've been to 3 Dan Marino games. Unfortunately, none in Miami (would give just about anything to have been at the 1985 MNF classic against "da Bears" - in the Orange Bowl, no less). Having grown up a Dolphin fan, I've also watched this man on TV countless times. Coach Shula has referred to Dan's competitiveness and unequalled desire to win on numerous occasions. bj, you are dead-on, correct. #13 did NOT play for records.
Nobody played the QB position quite like Dan Marino. He didn't just do it at an all-pro hall of fame level, he did it in style. True South Beach Miami style. GO DOLPHINS!!!!

There are many great players who never won "The Prize". And some playing today, that never will.
Still, that does not diminish their greatness.
Those great Buffalo Bills teams made it to the Super Bowl 4 times. Unfortunately, they never won it BUT they still were a GREAT TEAM.
Im so VERY Happy I got to see Dan the Man's induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame:D
