  • There was a Swedish ABBADABBADOO and one for the Engish audience. We visit the house where Benny and Bjorn compose. They discuss their approach to songwriting and the importance of melody. Agnetha tells how nervous she was making her first record and how her father brought her to Stockholm. She looks so beautiful and innocent!

  • MY UNCLE LEONARD PRODUCED ABBADABBADOO!!

    w w w dot abbasite.com/articles/articles/arrival---the-making-of-a-classic-pop-album

  • This song was already 10 years old when I discovered it. And still going strong.

  • The most difficult thing an artist can do and achieve is to be able to create something really beautiful yet very simple and uncomplicated. Dum, Dum, Diddle is an example of ABBA's ability to uncomplicate music to its most pure and joyous sound. That is the true sign of artistic genius.

  • this music is some of the best ever made. and their singing is superb!!!

  • I think the lyrics are clever - especially for a Swedish lyricist (Bjorn). "You're only smilin' when you play the violin"- I think that's clever. I love the melody too. Those girls could sing. This was live and just as good as the recorded version!

  • it was a birthday party i was at and as part of an amateur band,i decided to try to perk things up.........dum dum diddle got a good response, even though we made up most of the words......hi hi.....but the second Abba track we played was `wasnt for the nights`,athough i must appologise to both Agnetha and Frida for our rendition, enough to made any self respecting Swede cringe, and im affraid i`m not as attractive as Agnetha or Frida..but thanks for the music anyway....Guys...

  • ...ABBA : super - and this song with many happyness...

  • Great song, great video. Rather underrated yes.....Thanks for posting

  • Love this song!" 'cause I have their LP "Arrival", mexican edition, 1977 released by RCA Victor. Great video!

  • this song must be about me

  • @MrVelderado

What about yourself does this song remind you of?

    Grazie.

    Giuseppe

  • Again clear evidence that Abba could do it all. A so called "simple fun song" is clearly an Upper and makes you feel good. Abba did not need any nonsense in their lives to make great music. How many musicians can say that? Frida's voice just rocks here!

  • I can never understand why so many people make fun of ABBA. Musically, they were geniuses. Their melodies were always so strong, distinctive, and pleasing. When you get past their silly 70s costumes, the sometimes simple and questionable English lyrics, and their so-called "wholesome" look, you cannot deny the fact that they are among the best pop musicians of all time, if not the best. Melodically, they are certainly at the top of the list.

  • @mrshinyshoes Hells yes! :D

  • @mrshinyshoes

While we are on the topic of their costumes, I would like to say that I love the white slacks that the two babes had on! It did a great job of showing off their rears! Oh baby!

  • @Smartboy8877 Lol!! Um, yes, I agree... Makes me salivate. lol :3

  • @Smartboy8877 Agnetha looks really beautiful here. Especially at 0:28. That face, those eyes!

  • @mrshinyshoes

I can very much see where you are coming from with this post and the one that came before it! They were two very sexy babes in their day!

  • @Smartboy8877 Yeah, they were. Agnetha always had this cute habit of drawing her lips in when she broke into a smile. Ever notice that?

  • @mrshinyshoes

Actually, I have never noticed that before. However, now that you have brought it to my attention, I will be sure to take note!

  • frida described the song as silly

  • I am actually so sad the lyrics aren't great, because this could've been another worldwide hit for them. Even so, I can't help but smile and sing along. Who cares if the lyrics here aren't great after all? They have a million other songs with perfect lyrics. :P

  • This version is vulnerably live, and listen to those spot-on pitches! Excellent performances! So many of today's pop starts really ought to pay attention. And excellent rendition of the lyrics, too. I don't have words enough of praise for this group... they are just SO professional in every respect.

  • I still cherish the rare occasions when they sang with a live vocal.

  • ABBA Rocks is right!

  • Oh yeah, catchy tune, definitely one of my favorite ABBA songs and I go along with the comments below, nothing but mediocre musicians today playing boring songs, this one still belongs in the top 40.

  • Look, it's a star, no it's an angel; it's sweet Agnetha. The most beautifully beautyful woman ever and ever. Amazing Agnetha.

  • ABBA is my favorite group from the time i hear it, until now, and will always be.

Thank you Benny, Agnetha, Freda, and Bjorn for all the great songs.

Hope i see you in person.

    Thank you for the music.

    Thank you very much.

  • the girls had flat chests...i guess that the norm in scandinavia....except for all the enhancements they have...either flat or mega plastic busts....sometimes its so obvious!!! lol

  • wish there was a lead vocals only of this

  • what fantastic voices!

  • A mi me gusta mucho esta cancion, como todas las de abba.

Algunos se creen muy criticos y parecen sordos.

  • abba is such a great band that they even sound better live!

  • Agnetha for ever you will be in our hearts, Have a very happy birthday.

  • I just love Benny's arrangements. He's a true master musician.

  • especially underrated song... I love it - it is so nice just like every other ABBA song...Eagle and Kisses Of Fire are underrated too.

  • Everything they sing is just so catchy and has some unique melody or special magic to it! ABBA Forever!!!

  • @roydebatzen I have to agree with you. It is one of ABBA's silliest songs, just like Bang a Boomerang. Perhaps it is because English was not their main language so they didnt realise how silly some of these songs were.

  • I don't think so. The Scandinavian people speak English very well.

  • And yes I think it's ridiculous.

  • I think it is not silly at all it's a very nice song with a catchy melody and the words of the song talk about love. When I listen to it I can found myself in it because sometimes I feel the same. A truly nice song is the one you can sing as your own.

  • Estos chicos del Abba.. hasta con canciones conletras tan coloquiales.. tienen una armonia musical grandiosa.. Muchas gracias por su musica :D

  • For once Agnetha is moving more than Frida. And she also smiles more than ever.

  • Cute little ditty, I agree about the presentation. Mind you, 1970's choreography was so sad that I think, for posterity's sake, their minor movements are less painful to the eye.

  • A sweet and lively tune even though Bjorn and Frida didn'[t like it. The girls should dance a little. They look like they're reciting a poem.

  • Susanna Hoffs is in the running for sex on legs award aftre Frida

  • Look that body and face on Agnetha. She is the sun!! nobody opaques her

  • This is my favourite ABBA song!

  • Totally agree with you, mrshinyshoes

  • Contrary to what some people think, this song is one of ABBA's best songs, melodically. Lyrically it may suck, but the melody is so original, pleasant, and cheerful. Very underrated.

  • Love this song, they seem so happy, & great song to dance to

  • Agree. I think DDD is the most underrated ABBA song of all. Happy, upbeat, catchy. Win!

  • it is curtainly one of most unusual tracks ABBA ever recorded. It is one of my favorite unfamiliar tracks to most people.

  • Agnetha y Frida two of the most beautifull girls form the word

  • fenomenali.........

  • Lovely underrated perfect pop composition, here performed live!

  • lo vuelvo a repetir....Agnetha...TE AMO!!!!

  • solamente puedo decir algo GENIAL!!!

  • Comment removed

  • You just see her bum!! sorry i do.

  • I love Dum Dum Diddle, one of my favourite ABBA songs. I also love this Abbadabbadoo performance. Both Frida and Agnetha look beautiful and radiant in their Arrival costumes. Thank you for uploading this

  • Here i can see, that rida´svolice is much stronger!!!!!!!i cant hear Agnetha.

  • AGNETHA A DREAM COME TRUE!

  • I love Agnetha!!! I looooove <3

  • Great song! Abba the best!!!

  • And LIVE! Excellent! Thank you for sharing. Incredible band. Frida is STUNNING!

  • i more love the blonde one

  • frida is just GEORGEUS

  • yes yes yes

  • i was really suprised when i read Bjorn comments about this sing I

    LOVE this song

  • this tacky shitty silly song is better than most of the "music" of today...!

  • I agree! Melodically there is nothing else like it on the radio these days. I mean, compare it to something like "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay, a boring, overrated song. Dum Dum Diddle is so charged with energy and originality.

  • Well said sir, you're so right. Viva La Vida is not in the same league. This song is one of many amazing ABBA songs that will stand the test of time.

  • @bourlivak88 Magam sem mondhatnám jobban!

  • I like it, I like it, I like it!!!

  • they are wearing costumes from arrival album, love them still and i am 43,still love agnetha, timeless!

  • I LOVE THIS SONG! but most of all i LOVE ABBA!! thanks for posting, i like your name too, it mines me of scooby doo, i used to watch it all the time, good times. go ABBA!

  • dum dum diddle ^^

  • Their songs are so classic and great, they make me strangely sad.

  • Well I remember in the school when the girls were playing theatre in the major

room with this music. We all loved it.

  • wow this is practically the most catchy song ive ever heard XD

  • for some reason agnetha is behind to frida singing, anybody know why?

  • because here Frida holds the upper voice(at least from this i am hearing) and the song is more suitable for voice meyybe anyway in the recordings this is not so noticeable so there are other explanations like - sick Ana and so on

they've said many times that they used to support themselves when the one has probs with the voice and so on

  • Frida has the voice lead here, when one has the slight lead, the other will stand back, it works the other way too, when Aggie has the lead.

  • Its bloody catchy isnt it? Read tho' that Bjorn and Frida both dissed this song later on. Must have been just for the lyrics, as the tune and teh singing are great!

  • I actually felt bad when I read the selfsame Bjorn and Frida quotes. I guess they were perfectionists and somehow this song lacked depth to them. Always puts a smile on my mug. :)

  • For all my fellow ABBA fans: I have just uploaded my rather lovely 2009 dance mix of Dum Dum Diddle, using the excellent vocal from this performance! Check it out now on my channel; look for the Matt Mix :)

  • Sweet

  • i love this song it is awsome

  • can someone tell me whose vocals they used for this song?? xx

  • I HAVNT HEARD THIS SONG IN AGES!!!!

it used 2 my fav wen i was little!!!!

  • Now the song is in my head, I don't care....

The girls look so happy and innocent those were the days and boy can they sing. Thank you for posting this.

  • Yes, it is. I love ABBA!

  • OMG! Never heard this song it's just irresistable LOVE IT

  • aww this song is amazing ! thank you for this video :) x

  • Thank you so much for the videos!I love ABBA since I was baby.

  • I remember your comments from my old abbadabbadoo7 account so I also Thank You for the kindness. Blessings!

  • yes, I am you´re welcome!thank you so much again.God bless you.

  • well if Abba did ditch this catchy tune,it just goes to prove that even perfectionists can get it wrong occasionally. As someone else said, the lyrics may be a bit naff, but come on....you heard some of the absolute `Crap` that were spoon fed in the UK lately, this upbeat, catchy, little number beats some of our stuff hands down. I was playing this on saturday night at a party on the guitar, the audience probably didnt know it was Abba`s......but they were dancing away to it........

  • @dukesy1957 Awesome inclusion of Dum Dum Diddle at a party...Undeniably uplifting emotionally..:D

  • I dont know, I am just 29, I love ABBA; sometimes I think, am I getting outdated but when a melody like this touches me, I say: "So be it"

  • now this song is stuck in my head! and that's great, don't mind being singing this for a whole week or more hehe, great vid! Thanks

  • Thank You Salo! A lot of ABBA fans dislike DDD for some odd reason. I dig its' upbeat tone and overall feel good influence. Always brightens the mood! Ciao' Now!...Shawn

  • Probably the Abba-song that I prefer the most. Benny is able to give us a piece of Swedish folk music in a pop song. That is great.

  • i love this song it was recorded on my birthday exept 18 yrs before i was actually born lol i love it I LOVE ABBA

  • loved those white pantsuits...this was such an under-rated song, kind of over shadowed by the other brilliant tracks on Arrival

  • Wonderful.. thanx..

  • Ya know, I seem to remember a certain little chat we all had a long time ago on this song.

    We sure had fun!

    Peace, Jim~

  • The Dum Dum Diddle war of 2007! I would Love to be able to read the comments from the ABBAdabbadoo7 account Jim. Good times! I believe the Rochester Terror started the whole ordealio. Yep sounds right! Cccc's ya! :)

  • What was the Dum Dum Diddle war??!!

  • Wow what a great find this is after all these years to hear it is fantastic. A little known yet briliant abba song. The chorus and the girls voices are just magic. A forgotten song which should be on all abba fans playlist!

  • I really Love this song as well. Catchy, Upbeat, and just a smile inducer all around. Thanks and Peaceola!

  • The woman that created mama mia the musical wanted to use this song but couldnt find a place for it.I guess due to the lyrics, but i forgot this song so to see on tv was real nice.

  • Did not know that and would have loved for it to have been included. Thanks!

  • my too this is a fantastic song

  • And also I read that she wanted to use Hey Hey Helen as well

  • great to hear a live vocal from the girls!

    :)

  • I used to hate this song in the 70s but i love it now

  • agnetha te amo

  • great song frida is very BEAUTIFUL love her

  • What a fun song. No theatrics, just fun music.

  • GENIUS MY ENCANTA, FRIDA BEAUTIFULL

  • Great live version Shawn

    A joyful song

  • This song is so catchy! One of the cutest from ABBA ;) Frida's grace is enchanting :)

  • I seem to recall some people doin some talkin in a comment area below this vid. That's weird huh!

  • haha o no, not that again!

  • Why not Angel, cat got your tongue! I think you could say something if you try!

  • my tongue's right here and I'm sticking it out to you :p What can I say? This song is friggin catchy!!

  • Sticking your tongue out, I didnt expect this from a future nurse(pharmasist) and a newly licensed driver. I am so hurt......Do you believe me...hope not..Lol I wrote those 2 professions down to cover my bases.

  • A driver would normally flip the bird, but me, I'll stick out my tongue ;)

Shawn! You must learn to play this song on your special instrument! We had a deal, and I'm very interested in your interpretation of the this song!

  • And what special instrument would that be??......aja baja!! I'll stop there. Sorry, but I had to go there Angel, can't pass up an opening like that.
