  • This game was so frustrating lol

  • good playthrough! I also love to collect Japanese Megadrive games. I wonder if you have the Bare Knuckle III game?

  • @Yuzoboy Thanks, havent got Bare Knuckle III yet- it's on my list like many other games! Have you got many in your collection?

  • @ianwilson1978 I have only so far got the games I love to play as a child. Includes The Super Shinobi II, Bare Knuckle I and II, Michael Jackson Moonwalker and Dai Makaimura. BK III is hot on my list too, I have the soundtrack to it that was released in 1994, but not the game yet.:)

  • Hi Ian how it going.I buy Japanese complete verison of Super Shinobi.Got rip off it copy Knockoff. When I open my parcel the spine was blue not real purple colour. Then me went to play the Japanese Super Shinobi mega drive.Got piss off the title screen say Revenge Of Shinobi the text in English. But it should of read Super Shinibo with the Japanese text.So I went out buy another Super Shinobi and make should the spine purple not blue spine.Cheers Ryan

  • @sailorheman Hi Ryan, nice to hear from you mate. Sorry that you got ripped off with Super Shinobi- hopefully this next copy you get will be the "real deal". I love this game! (still havent finished it yet though!!).

  • No matter how many times I play this game it never gets boring, it is truly a timeless Mega Drive classic and I agree totally with what you said, this game is a MUST have for any Mega Drive collection.

Great mini review Ian, keep up the good work!

  • @Adam060756 Got to agree mate- completely timeless! What a soundtrack as well... Cheers :)

  • Great video for a great game.

Love it how your accident at 7:33 probably saved your life at 7:56.

  • @Legenden0 Yeah I planned that- (yeah right!) :)

  • This is the very best Mega Drive game. Castle of Illusion, Thunder Force IV, Streets of Rage, all come pretty close, but this is the best.

  • My personal favourite is Golden Axe but this comes very close! All those other games you mention are superb also :)

  • man i remember playing this game. i still have my Sega Megadrive and a Golden Axe cartridge. But I think its a PAL system and won't play on my television. I have not tried it in.... almost 20 years ! Its been down in the basement for that long. Wow. Wonder if the unit even works.

  • Get it out and see if it works! Sure it will, the Mega Drive is a timeless machine. Golden Axe is my favourite game :-)

  • What a game, i never played it until recently.

Got onto the 6th level today,(i think it was the sixth) the sea level with the waves.

    In one word, Amazing.

  • You've done well mate- its a tough game!

This is one of the games with the most memories for me, if I had to only keep a handful of games this would be one. :-)

  • "The Shinobi" is one of the best VGM songs of all time

  • Couldnt agree more! :-D

  • Legendary mate :-)

  • Classic game that we've all played mate... This game reminds me of Christmas because my sister got this with a MD one year back in the day.. nice ;o)

  • Played it more yesterday, still a tricky game!! :-)

  • Great game and another excellent review.

    Thanks a lot Ian

  • No problem, glad you enjoyed it :-)

  • Nice vid mate! Didn't notice but I counted up my own MD collection and have 79 games, not sure how!?

  • Thanks Shaun. 79 games- brilliant considering you dont really collect ha! Any rare matey? Hows the event organising coming in?

  • I tried to beat this game like 2 months ago, but those jumps in the second level were impossible with the pad I was using xD Didn't know about the infinite shurikens o_o

    Great game!

  • Those jumps are tricky! I've played this again today and keep getting stuck on the 2nd boss! lol Out of practice...

    Infinite shurikens is a must!!

    :-)

  • Shurikens HUWAT? thanks for the tip!

  • Lol it's a good one eh!

  • You're a much better player of ROS than I am, Ian!!!

  • Unlimited shurikens helps mate! I played it again last night and got my ass handed to me on the 2nd boss though lol!

  • I always use the infinite shurikens cheat and you're right the game is still challenging nonetheless. This game is godly for 1989.

  • Yeah its a toughie mate, amazing game for 1989 like you say...

  • Ian did you ever figure out which version of the game you had? Was wondering if Spider-Man,Bat-Man,Godzilla and Rambo are in yours?

Great game by the way i totally for got how fantastic it was am putting it on my games to buy list.

  • Pretty sure its version 1.00 John, though need to play it through to truly find out.

I'll have to get some practice in!

  • Yeah let me know for sure Ian.

  • Infinite shurikens equals invisibility! :)

I noticed that you also found the hidden gems in the two levels thus far!

I played this game to death. i scoured practically every level until I was sure that there were no other hidden items! That was fun to go on a in game safari hunt! :)

Personally, every single music track is great! If you have not played this game, you owe it to yourself to give it a go! It is one of the best games on the SEGA console!

  • I still got my ass handed to me last night when I played it again even with the shuriken cheat! lol The 2nd boss was starting to annoy me so switched it off- out of practice!

  • Fantastic music, it's amazing just how good this still is considering it was one of the earlier MD games. Don't blame you for using the unlimited shurikans cheat, I always use it too. :)

It's funny how many of the MD games share the same sound effects, the 1up sound and end of level points total, just like in Streets of Rage. :)

  • For a 20 year old game it holds up well definitely!

Yeah there's a good few games share the same sound effects- all came from the same big sega SFX pot!

  • One of those games that after 20 years still plays, looks and sounds great alon with streets of rage and golden axe. The Mega Drive had a large amount of great beatem ups.

  • Here Here :-)

  • Great video and shinobi game mate. :) I remember having this game on the megadrive back in the day and it's a great game with a fantastic soundtrack. The soundtrack on the Chinatown level is my favourite tune from this game. :) The soundtrack was composed by the same person who composed the music for Streets Of Rage games. :)

  • Yeah Yuzo Koshiro- unbelievably talented guy, responsible for some superb tunes on the MD! I love this game, it holds up well today :-)

  • This game looks so sweet!

  • It's one of the best games on the system definitely! Which is impressive considering it was released in 1989 :-)

  • It's been a while since I've played this one, awesome game though. I've got the US version right now but will pick up the Japanese version when I see it.

I'm with you, the music in this game is some of the best on the Mega Drive. Great video!

  • I love everything about this game! 20 years on and it still plays fantastic :-)

  • Awesome Ian.. Definitely gotta get all the Shinobi series on the Megadrive!!

  • Yeah definitely Phat, I've only got this one but looking forward to getting the others incl Shadow Dancer etc. :-D

  • is that the guy who made the music for streets of rage?

  • Yeah Yuzo Koshiro- legend! :-)
