Shellac when used properly will last 14 days. Find a reputable salon...not a Vietnamese.Remember you get what you pay for and if your paying under 35 for it....welll there you go.
Some salons thin out their shellac by adding acetone to the bottles!! This causes inefficient wear (ie it doesnt last 14 days) and its softer. They mainly do it to save money. Be careful!
cannot believe she drilled your shellac off im so shocked... Im a trained shellac therapist and we never were trained to drill off, always soak.. personally i think drills should be banned anyways. I LOVE shellac it doesn't damage the nails as your therapist should never buff or damage the nail plate..btw loving the colour on your nails :) great review
Great explanation of the product Shellac. I've just learned of this and you have explained to me just what I wanted to hear. You seem to be a great gal and pretty too. I like your honesty. Thanks again. :) Annmarie PS does it make your underneath nails soft in any way.?
I like you! You're cool with a cute personality. Don't waste your time on people that aren't giving you constructive feedback. Thank you for explaining the difference between Shellac, OPI Axxium and acrylics. I appreciate it! Ben on here for DAYS looking at videos trying to figure it out!!!
This was great, thanks! I've been going back and forth all week trying to decide between gels, acrylics, or shellac (going away on 3 week business trip). I had an unsatisfactory experience with nail sanding/filing (lumps and bumps like you mentioned) so shellac it is!
@aliserz Don't get acrylic or gels, it's not worth the 18months of horrific nails after they're removed!! Just have normal nails and shellac if you want something that lasts longer
Hand&Nail Harmony has a version of this concept called Gelish! That's what I've allways used, I prefer Gelish because they've got a much bigger range of colours:)
i love shellac! My nails are like yours - they just aren't the best, a regular manicure for me always chips in literally less than two days... have you tried the OPI gel polishes yet?.. I have heard mixed reviews, just wondering about your opinion on them?
My fingers are short too and i have big nuckles too... Im soo trying Shellac. I totally agree w/ our hands/finger nails having to look manicured ALL THE TIME!
I pay $16.00 every two weeks. You know what they say...you get what you pay for! I would rather pay $40 and have them look like yours. My girl used some no name brand and it was not shinny at all AND they came off after a few days. I went on Thursday and went back on Monday. She used the OPI next time but they are so dull! I definitely am changing nail girls!! Your nails look ahmazing and mine DO NOT! hahahaha : P
As a pro Nail Stylist I am seeing this a lot. Some nail shops are lying to clients and telling them they are using Shellac and they are not (they use a gel.)
I am digging your blog girl, and It's great to see someone educating on nails!
oh wow..i didnt even know about Shellac.. thank u very much! this is very helpful! I'll be a mommy very soon..and im very picky with my hands..and i was thinking "what am i going to do when i have my baby? i cant have acrilic nailz on coz i might hurt her..(plus i think itz a little bit insanitary)" .but this is awesome :)
i got my nails shellac'd for the first time. It's only been a couple of days but, so far, I'm a fan. I like the fact that your nails are dry in what seems like seconds. Thanks for your video...very informative
Thanks for the information. I've always thought you have beautiful nails in your videos. I really like that milky pink color you are wearing. It looks so fresh and clean for summer. I love the darker colors too, but I wash my hands a lot and have my hands in water a lot throughout the day and I hate looking at chipped nails. Do you know of any at-home shellac kits to try or is this just a salon only service?
Hi Vanessa- Just wanted to say hi. I am with my husband and son and we are currently driving through Pittsburg from Chicago on our way to DC for a family wedding. Lots of rain but so hilly and pretty! I am waving to you! Take care! Vanessa
omggg i got the shellac nails a few weeks ago but i didnt know the name. i just told them it was "gel nails" i wanted. they did it for me and when i wanted to redo them at another place and they didnt know I had shellac so they drilled my nails so deep my ring finger started bleeding :( I knew she couldnt be doing it right but then she realized and told me it was called shellac. all to say that i wont make that mistake again!
hey if you got the money thats great, thats way expensive though for every 2 weeks, but I guess if you keep telling yourself its worth it then good for you!
Mine didn't even last over a week. Way too much money, but I don't think the man that did my nails new what he was doing. I went to a very elegant wedding, so I wanted something nice. (no acrylics) I would have them done again (by someone else) for a special occasion. Thanks for the information. By the way, your hands a nails look great!
I did axxium (opi's brand) for two years. It was $35 every two weeks (before tip). I loved them. They were my own nails but stronger and the color stayed, didn't chip or wear like polish on acrylics. Also great option for those allergic to acrylics. They are not thick and more natural. Due to recent changes in my life I have cut this out of my budget. But loved it when I did it. Thanks for sharing.
The same thing happened to me with shellac - I went to a 90s Nails and they drilled down my nails before putting the shellac on! I went to a nicer salon to have it removed, and they freaked out because they couldn't get the shellac off. They explained how it was supposed to be done. It will take a few months for my nails to grow back to normal, so I've learned my lesson.
Thanks for all the info! I've been wanting to get "shellac" nails for some time now but have been hesitant because I thought drills were necessary for removal. Your video was hugely informative!
Weak and brittle nails can be improved a lot naturally. The problem with any nail overlay (gel, acrylic etc) is that while the overlay is on, your body completely stops depositing keratin.
Keratin is what gives your nails strength and even after the overlays are removed, it takes 5 to 6 months for the keratin levels to be restored in your natural nails.
Fake nails have a short term payoff but you pay for it ( and not just financially) in the end.
I want to try this! I usually get acrylics, but I'm starting to kind of grow out of that phase & just want a solid color. I didn't even know this was an option. I will be trying it very soon (:
I just watched a video on how this process works... tedious! No wonder they charge a lot, it's very time consuming. If I could afford $80 a month I would defiantly get this done.
You are GORGEOUS and I LOVE your nails...so perfect!!!! And LOVE you inside and out and love all your videos!!!! I have to try this Shellac sometime!!!! :) xoxo,Tara
You are perfect!!!! Nice that u like yourself the way u are, as that is so important in this day in life, confident women!! Not stuck up but pleased with themselves like u!!!:)) hope this came across in a nice way as that's what it was untitled to be!!;)
Great video. Just a FYI, some brands can peel. My daughter had them done and they peeled and then the technician used a different brand and they were fine, lasted 3 weeks! Love your hair :D
thanks for the info, sounds like a much better plan than acrylics - they do mess your own nails up so much, and I've also got pathetic peeling nails that need all the help they can get! will have to research this in the UK xx
