We soak our shih tzu's eyes with saline solution, then use a moustache comb to remove the boogies. He struggled a bit the first few times we did it, but now he's such a good sport about it! A clean dog is a healthy dog. A healthy dog is a happy dog!

If there is a lot of hair around their eyes, you should get it cut by a groomer (or can do it yourself if you dare) because the "junk" is caused by the hair irritating the eyes and causing them to tear After our ShihTzu got his first haircut it was much better. Also, make sure you rinse the soap out very well:).

i just got a puppy shih tzus he is a month and a half old,how do i clean the junk from around hs eyes,he got along pretty good with his first bath,i gave him a bath in the kitchen sink,but there is still junk around his eyes,i used a warm facecloth,but could not get all the gook from underneath his eyes,any ideas?
@brawyn777 Shih Tzu's tend to have alot of build-up around their eyes and our Shih Tzu has the same issues. We find that using Huggies baby wipes work well and we use it everyday to minimize the build-up around the eyes. I hope that helps.
@brawyn777 i know this is a late response but my vet told me (and this is if they have A LOT of buildup) when they are having a bath, take a flea comb and gently brush it out...that is if you can manage to get close to their face lol, good luck with that ;)
For my shih tzu Bella we use baby shampoo (the breeder we got her from said to use baby shampoo) and shes not allergic to it. Lol and after we are done giving her a bath she looks like a drowned rat lol xD Shes currently 15 weeks(:

Be sure to use a dog shampoo and conditioner since many Shih Tzu are allergic to human shampoo. Cloud Star Buddy Wash Green Tea & Bergamot is a great shampoo & conditioner. Also, Shih Tzu are prone to ear infections, so you may want to use cotton balls to prevent water from getting into their ears. And don't forget to completely dry your Shih Tzu off with a hair dryer set to warm.

Sorry to hear about that. :( Cooper was a very calm puppy to begin with so we're very fortunate. As for your Shih Tzu, give him a quick 5 minute bath the first week, then a bit longer the next week.
