Am Sure that you mean Cook Strait, South Wellington Coastline, New Zealand this where the footage has been taken. The Cook Strait is notorious from South Antartica Southerlies that whip through this stretch of water between the North Island and South Island in the winter months.

I'm sure you are confused by the name ,, hobart would be in relation to australia.

I recognise the coastline as Cook Straight, from southern Wellington shoreline, NZ.

As a few has asked (and see other comments!), it' not a cruise ship it is the ferry MV Sulven in the Hobart strait, New Zealand. I used to use this boat a lot when she sailed in Scotland for Caledonian Macbrayne. She was a fantastic sea boat, famous for going out in weather that no other ships did, a tradition she continued in NZ, She went on to be the flag ship of Fiji at 30+ years old. Not sure where she is now. Always a great ship to be on!

This was not a hurricane. It was filmed at the end of a big storm a few years back. The ship is leaving Wellington Harbour in New Zealand and is crossing Cook Strait heading for the South Island of NZ. Cook Strait is well known for being a rough stretch of water and ferries often cross in pretty rough conditions. This was the first crossing after sailings had been cancelled due to the storm. It made it safely across Cook Strait but a few peoples breakfasts didn't....
