I can explain basically the black figure or as you would call it a monolith was created by an alien species far from our galaxy that was here millions of years before us they managed to become non corpreal beings but anyway they use monoliths to study the universe and promote intelligent beings like early humans to evolve and then it fast forwards 3 or 4 million years in time to the present or what arthur Clarke imagined it to be and because of the monolith we evolved
holy shit, I get tears in my eye every single time that fucking bone becomes a satellite... the wonders that we humans are capable of! 4 million years of evolution in 10 seconds...
Lame asshole you skipped the best parts!!! where he kills the leopard and then the other ape! God you make me just sick! Don't download anything else ever on youtube! Or I will find you and beat you and make you watch the Return of the Jedi over and over again minus the last 20 minutes dipshit!
Its not aliens or god, Its a ROCK. They used the rock to discover celestial cycles. (notice the sun above the rock).... And from there discovered how to predict solar eclipses (as seen in the very opening scene) to gain an advantage over the rest of the ape man by tricking them.
"Man is a rope, tied between beast and Overman--a rope over an abyss. A dangerous across, a dangerous on-the-way, a dangerous looking back, a dangerous shuddering and stopping."
you mean monolith. when those apes touch it, it changes their consciousness. they recognize that they can use the bones both as tool and weapon. they become hunters. it's their first step of becoming men.
that idea was taken from this movie. and when they evolve from animals to tribes, that little movie clip that separates the two is a spin off of this movie as well (the characters throw the bone into the air)
let me clarify, i understand the significance of the end... but i don't get the part where the black wall appears all of the sudden and the proto-humans go nuts, then calm down
maybe its cuz there scared shitless of the thing because theyve never seen shit like that but then they realise its just sitting there so they investigate, meh i could be wrong i dont understand the rest of it. Btw, is this from a movie?
well the only part i understood was the part with the bones. it was showing man learning to kill. hence him hitting the sekeleton with his bone and then preceeding to hit another monkey with that same bone
I think it went beyond that. It was man learning to use a tool. He used the first tool (an improvised bone as a club) not just to kill, but to gain access to an invaluable resource: water and food. And from there... all the way right into outerspace with space capsules, stations and whatnot!
Wow, what an amazing piece of movie history! Mankind inventing a tool. The invention that will slowly, but inevitably lead to space travel. At the same time begging the question, are we fundamentally so different from the man at dawn.
its saying that if the monolith hadn't showed them the light, they would'nt of evolved

The man's first tool: a weapon.
That says everything about the mankind.
Success granted.

We almost see ourselves portrayed in these images. We were nothing pacific.
This is almost art.

Aside from all the implications, this is one of the greatest cuts in movie history - bridging over 2 million years in a blink!
