To everyone who has said they are reminded of Franz Ferdinand and Editors....

That was my initial reaction the first time I saw them and then I saw them again! There are a couple of bits in a couple of songs otherwise a much better band!!! I have seen Editors live and they have nothing on The Cinematics live.

A good song is a good song. I still like their songs and don't think they're 'crap' If you think they're crap go listen to Fall Out Boy or better yet, Rhianna, she samples New Order's Blue Monday in her song. So you think Cinematics arent original or have talent go listen to those bands and see that it's actually way worse.

So if you want something 'distinct' there is there. Just cuz it's not there in the guitar tunes doesn't mean it's there. The voice is different and pretty good and I'm very picky about voice. The lyrical content has a different feel to it compared to Editors, Franz, and I like analogies.

So what? Does that mean they're not talented? Snow Patrol sounds like Keane, Keane apparently sounds like Coldplay and Coldplay sound like Travis but does it mean the 'copycats' are not talented? It's a style of music that's popular now, like Blur, Oasis and Verve.

Blur, Oasis and The Verve were actually quite different and unique (well the first two). What we see here is a complete regurgitation of the Franz Ferdinand/Strokes/Interpol/Kai­ser Chiefs(may they never sell another album for humanities sake) template.

I'm not at all saying these guys dont have talent, just there is none evident in this mindless dollop of indie/post-punk/electro/synth-­otica or whatever you kids call it these days.

Why you say? I actually think Verve and Oasis sound alike. And you didnt discuss Keane/Travis/Coldplay/Snow Patrol. They sound similiar.

My whole point is the fact that people think it's bad if bands sound alike and I'm telling you bands sound alike all the time, and because of style, what's in and what's out. More examples? Depeche Mode, New Order and both are amazing bands.

No. I think Verve and oasis are similar, but they and all the others mentioned have reasonable distinct sounds and songs etc. Depeche Mode and New Order both good, but both took quite different paths in the whole er, synth pop scene.

Video style, they were similar, both took control. I think some songs they sound similar, if you compare earlier Depeche Tunes with New Order in 80s and early 90s. Voice they sounded different.

ANd why aren't you mentioning Keane and the piano/soft rock genre. Do they not sound like? Yet a lot of people see them as distinct.

The guys in this video have almost exactly the same rhythms, drum beat and short guitar riffs that get trotted out by every Indie type band these days (mind you Indie means something a bot different to what it did when I was younger, now it covers chart stuff). With this tune I REALLY have heard it all before.

Actually to me, their album has a very different feel than other 'indie' bands. I hear a bit of the 80s, I hear a bit of The Smiths and that is what's distinct TO ME, because I definitely don't hear that in Franz Ferdinand. And the album is not all 'rock' and 'hard', sure they are not the best band, but I enjoy the lyrical content and Scott's voice, and it's way better than Franz in that sense (I'm a Franz fan btw)

With all due respect to the talent of this band, nevertheless, if you were around in the '80's, this is deja vu. It's hard for me to believe that so much time has passed since then, that we are coming back around the fashion cycle, back to this trend which originate in the early 60's and was echoed in the 80's as "New Wave". Very good if you are young enough not to have been there.
