hey mudbone don't base ur opinion of a vehicle on an "independant survey". Own one and you might see why we love jeeps. Sorry but basing your whole opinion on one overpaid morons opinion and then using it as your argument is not a very smart move. I love my jeep and it's been amazingly reliable. You have to maintain any vehicle properly if you want it to last. And as far as your flame wars on youtube go, save it for elsewhere.
Anytime you go in over your axels you now need to change your differential oil, and maybe your transmission and transfer case as well. Most idiots like a lot of the 'experts' making comments on here probably just keep driving with muddy water in their oil. I just read an independent survey which said that Jeep, Land Rover and Mini Cooper were all in the top ten LEAST reliable vehicles made.
I have two Grand Cherokee's - one I've had 12 years and is a 1997 ZJ and the other a new shape 05, which i've had 4 years....
Neither of the two have ever been any trouble....
Both now have very high mileage.
A neighbour has a Mitsubishi 4x4 and which is now 7 years old, and the last thing to go was his dual mass flywheel, £2500 part only price!! That's on top of the prop shaft, wheel bearings, head gasket, steering rack to mention a few.
@jeep4jeep On my 95 yj I have raised the diff vents to above my engine and have yet to have water in my diffs. My yj has been VERY reliable and I have beat the everliving piss out of it. My 98 zj 5.9 Has fairly high Kilometers and not only goes like a raped ape but has never failed me. I would like to know where the survey mudbone refers to is. You never know who you are talking to smart ass ROFL peace.
And Jeep suck so bad it pulled a Land Cruiser, a Mercedes LWB Van, Isuzu Trooper, Ford Transit, BMW X5, and Mercedes ML through 2 feet (70cm) of SNOW and -20'C ...so go away you moron - and then come back when you own something that can truly show hero ability... and not be a thing full of plastic wheel covers and bits that drop off.
@jeep4jeep What I own is none of your shit head brainless business! I don't want a little punk like you to be jealous! Jeeps are in the top 10 LEAST reliable vehicles on the road!
Jealous of a RETARD like you..... I doubt that very much.
Besides i'm not little and i - UNLIKE YOU - do not have little man syndrome!!! (pathetic bad attitude) you probably drive something small and shitty retarded like a honda or hyundai or even KIA lol.... you're so funny to laugh at - now go away.
@jeep4jeep I have unloaded some of those vehicles off of ships as a west coast longsoreman where I make 1 quarter million per year. Now get back to your McDonalds job BOY!
@jeep4jeep You are living in a fantasy land son! Now get back to the drive thru at you DEAD END job and tell your FAT UGLY, SMELLY girlfriend that you might be late because you have to blow the boss again after work!
@jeep4jeep What are you 5 years old? You just can't stop! Now go eat out your cow girlfriend. Sorry you cannot get a hot girl. Now go blow the shit out of your head you little shit head! Mooooooooooooooooooo
@jeep4jeep Sorry I hurt your feelings and told everyone that you have a FAT COW for a womena. You sure are sensitive about it you little cocksucker! MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
@highway2snell You have mental problems, are ugly, stupid and couldn't get an attractive lady if your life depended on it! I REALLY feel sorry for you! You also have NO LIFE! Sad!
Forgot to say - Mitsubishi sucks, the guy rolled it over and almost killed his wife....the handling as appalling.... He now owned a Mercedes ML CDI and drives the same road, and guess what - its not rolled over - and before you ask, the guy is a careful over 60 y/o driver.
i have a snorkel and every time i get my jeep wet i pop the hood and just give a quick check make sure we all good under da hood 4 b i take a plong into watery mud like that pressen ur luck one day ur shit will be geten draged out of there
Take a good look at time 0:14 .... you will see clearly that the engine still is running, watch at the exhaust closly...... as he steps on the gas..... !!!! He just got stuck in the mud puddle....... as beginner maybe only taking away gas as the water splashed over the bonnet.......normal reaction.
like knox said speed isn't always the answer in the off road. Though it can be useful in some situations sometimes it makes things worst. In things like deep water it's actually worst. The key is not speed, but momentum. Just don't stop, in water/mud, if you're already in 4x4. when you stop, you're basically done.
does not matter how deep it is. He sucked the water into the engine. When the waterline reaches over your hood even for a moment, you are dead in the water if you don't have a snorkel.
ive driven through rivers before in my mq patrol where the water has come up over the bonnet to the windscreen and i never had a problem and i dont have a snorkel
that is physically impossible. If the water line reaches over the point of the air filter, the filter will suck in water. Some water will only affect your compression slightly, but it gets to the point that the cylinder can no longer compress and the engine just shuts down.
just because the water splashes up over the bonnet it does not mean that the engine bay is flooded with water, there is no way that this water crossing is anywhere near deep enough to suck water into the engine through the air filter the water isnt even covering the wheels the bottom of the engine would barely even be touching water
@shanesums mate i know from experience that the water doesnt have to be very deep to be sucked into ur air intake, it depends on how quick u are going and the angle u enter it at
ive done it my 4wds your wrong it is possible you just keep a bow wave infront of you and you are fine if you get stuck you lose ya bow wave your fucked ive had it wright over my bonnet with out a snorkel in nissans toyotas jeeps ranges
you always go slow through water in case of any unseen ditches, if you hit them fast you will most likely drown the engine and if the hole is big enough it might roll
What sense does that make? You fake the water out or something??? Drive fast then slow way down..haha wtf! Like haha water you thought i was comin in fast but i stabbed the brakes right before i hit you! SUCKER!! haha
no dont drive fast and slow down u go in slow if u go in fast with the throttle open u take water in and can hydrolock it not to mention if u go fast break ur front end up pretty good
It's obviously Australia with the accents, but you could have fooled me, there's places in Southern Alabama and Mississippi USA that look just like that, mud, water color, trees and all. Not that the trees are the same, just they look it from a distance.
First snorkels dont save ya motor unless they are sealed properly. Second if ya gonna try something like this use speed. I have seen cars go through this same spot at the powerline track in mundaring with no probs because they went fast.
umm, you never wanna use speed crossing water. It's a good way to break shit. Trying to shove 3000+lbs through water is like hitting a brick. You can shove your radiator into your fan or crank pulley and break it. And a snorkel is a good idea if the water is gonna come up to the intake level. All it takes is a good rush of water to get in and you're done for.
as soon as you hit the water at high speed, the water will slow you right down again, makes no sense and all you do is fuck radiators and shit and get water in your doors if seals are fucked
Because speed worked out great for him!! Speed is not always the answer but some people tend to think it is..sometimes yes but in a situation like this you gotta be able to feel the feedback of your truck/jeep/car/quad
you wouldn't even try and do that without a snorkel, if you did you would take it slow and get a bow wave going to try and keep water out of the air intake.

Grow up. Attitude like that you clearly are a moronic twerp.
I've spent the last 15 years as an IT specialist, own a Jeep which in the UK is a $50,000 (US) vehicle and Mercedes ($70,000).
We in Europe find talking about money quite vulgar.
So I think you need to get back to your Jack(ass) In The Box job - or should that be Burger King-
NumbNuts with chip on your shoulder -
Thats you're so angry about nothing.
Jeeps in Europe are made in Austria. Get your facts straight RETARDO (_!_)
