Anytime you go in over your axels you now need to change your differential oil, and maybe your transmission and transfer case as well. Most idiots like a lot of the 'experts' making comments on here probably just keep driving with muddy water in their oil. I just read an independent survey which said that Jeep, Land Rover and Mini Cooper were all in the top ten LEAST reliable vehicles made.

I have two Grand Cherokee's - one I've had 12 years and is a 1997 ZJ and the other a new shape 05, which i've had 4 years....

Neither of the two have ever been any trouble....

Both now have very high mileage.

A neighbour has a Mitsubishi 4x4 and which is now 7 years old, and the last thing to go was his dual mass flywheel, £2500 part only price!! That's on top of the prop shaft, wheel bearings, head gasket, steering rack to mention a few.

So yes-Jeep must be rubbish.

@jeep4jeep On my 95 yj I have raised the diff vents to above my engine and have yet to have water in my diffs. My yj has been VERY reliable and I have beat the everliving piss out of it. My 98 zj 5.9 Has fairly high Kilometers and not only goes like a raped ape but has never failed me. I would like to know where the survey mudbone refers to is. You never know who you are talking to smart ass ROFL peace.

like knox said speed isn't always the answer in the off road. Though it can be useful in some situations sometimes it makes things worst. In things like deep water it's actually worst. The key is not speed, but momentum. Just don't stop, in water/mud, if you're already in 4x4. when you stop, you're basically done.

does not matter how deep it is. He sucked the water into the engine. When the waterline reaches over your hood even for a moment, you are dead in the water if you don't have a snorkel.

that is physically impossible. If the water line reaches over the point of the air filter, the filter will suck in water. Some water will only affect your compression slightly, but it gets to the point that the cylinder can no longer compress and the engine just shuts down.

First snorkels dont save ya motor unless they are sealed properly. Second if ya gonna try something like this use speed. I have seen cars go through this same spot at the powerline track in mundaring with no probs because they went fast.

umm, you never wanna use speed crossing water. It's a good way to break shit. Trying to shove 3000+lbs through water is like hitting a brick. You can shove your radiator into your fan or crank pulley and break it. And a snorkel is a good idea if the water is gonna come up to the intake level. All it takes is a good rush of water to get in and you're done for.
