  • You Sir, have my subscription.

Thank you very much for this tutorial.

    You made the script?

  • @Pabloko09 I didn't make this script, however, I consider this tutorial outdated. The script is now updated and is an addon for the new Blender 2.62. It is much easier to use, though the functionality is still the same. A channel called "Phymec" was working on some destruction tools for Blender, though I'm not sure when that will be completed.

  • I can't do it

is there another way to do fracture without scripts??

  • You should really make a blender 2.5 tutorial

  • what do you say at 0:50 to 0:54

  • @Biggniels "now in the text editor, with the object selected, press alt+p"

  • Does it matter what version of blender you are using?

  • @undefeatableneko aah, in blender 2.5, the script is no longer used, but has been turned into an addon, so you need to enable the addon "fracture tools" under user preferences. Then in 3d view with object selected, you press "space" and type "fracture" and the several options will come up in the operator panel.

  • Good jobbbbbbbbbb

  • What if you wanted the object to stay solid until another object hit it?

  • @RIVMASTAR for that, it requires a few logic bricks to be set up, perhaps i could provide quick tutorial using blender 2.5

  • @blazraidr That would be great

  • ow my god that people are using this software.. don't want to sound harsh but first the viewport in Blender is horrible.. ow my god :S.. why not make it straight with the plane. and it looks like msdos :S.. but great effect but I am so glad that I am working with maya and not with Blender ;)..

  • @dreamerboy1231 everyones opinion is different, i've heard of maya and 3dsmax users saying they'll never turn back, and blender was there final choice of software. Also, the new Blender 2.5x series has come with a completely new interface, which makes it much easier to use. I do say that the new interface is much better, then again, that is MY opinion. I suggest you take a look at the 2.56 version, available on the Blender site. I believe there is an option to make the hotkeys like Maya.

  • @dreamerboy1231 turn turnatable on :P

  • @dreamerboy1231 It is called ORTOGRAPHIC VIEW so that is why it looks awful.

  • Was hoping you can help me, I added and enabled the Fracture addon in blender. however I do not see anywhere to create the fractures to an object. There is nothing in the toolbar aswell. I am running 2.5

  • @bcasts with ure cursor in the 3d view, press "space" and type in "fracture" to search for it. u will see several options. Select "fracture object" and play with the options in the tool shelf.

  • @blazraidr thats my issue, ill do that and click "fracture object". but there is no option panel in the tool shelf, is there something I missed?

  • @bcasts have you selected your object before attempting to search for "fracture"

  • @blazraidr yes

  • @bcasts the only thing i can think of is to load factory settings in the file menu. Then switch on the fracture addon, and try again. You may have removed the operator bar in the tool shelf. loading factory settings will remove previously set up window views and any other settings.

  • @blazraidr you're a wizard. I must have accidentally removed the "operator bar", wow thanks!

  • @bcasts so, it worked?

  • @blazraidr yep reseting back to defaults worked, idk how i was missing the operator bar. but w/e its there now. and yes, i subbed of course.

  • @bcasts thanks

  • @bcasts if you dont mind could you subscribe? I'll be putting up videos after the next few weeks, when i have some time on my hands. Thanks

  • Whenever I "part" an object and try to fracture it, it doesn't cut it up. Please help.

  • @dwarfmenproductions the object youre splitting has to be a manifold mesh, meaning that it needs to be "enclosed". all faces need to be connected. it has to a "volume" to actually be able to cut up.

  • @blazraidr I have all my faces connected, but when I press alt+p it still does not cut up the mesh. Here is my scenario: I have a plane that I join it with another mesh and then in edit mode I make sure all the faces are connected and then I press alt+p in the text window with the script open. it looks like it is cutting it up, but when it is done it is still one mesh. Hope this helps.

  • How to use this script to shatter text? Coz after hitting Alt+P blender always crashes.

  • @Winged4Ever u need to press ctrl+c (i think) to convert it into a mesh first. The script doesnt work with text, only meshes.

  • @blazraidr Great thanks, it works ;) BTW: Not Ctl+C, but Alt+C.

  • Ive been using blender for many years and thought i mastered everything. But if you asked me if fracturing meshes was possible in blender yesterday, id have said no.

  • i tried this in blender 2.56 and when i press alt+p inthe script box, it says there is an error :( is it because i have another version of blender or is there something wrong

  • @coolymichael the link to the script in the description box only works with blender 2.49. In blender 2.56, if you go into the addons tab, you should be able to enable the fracture addon. With that addon, there's an interface which makes it easier to use.

  • Sí muy mañosoo, pero un poquito de saber pedagógico no le vendría mal... madre mía..

    Aprende de Andrew Kramer!

  • sorry for bothering you i hadent put all the script in lol

  • hey i love the tutorial but when i do alt p in the text editor it dosent do any thing

  • @nebulae64 your mouse cursor has to be in the text editing area

  • Why is the fracurest object exploding when i click P?

  • the script wont work for me if i use anything besides the default cube

  • Very useful, thanks very much :)

  • this script is not working for me it gives me errors and i get no cracks in the cube

  • @realflow100 same it says "python script fail, look in the console for now. Location unknown". ahhh if only there was one that worked because the ones i try to download are all the same!

  • @blackninjamonkey1 i know why cause i did it wrong

  • That's great! Many thanks

  • nice tutorial! the only thing is when i press p my square explodes before it hits the ground. please help

  • @rockon0003 in world tab, play with the log, phys, sub settings. if you increase sub, the sim will take longer, but be more accurate. This explosion usually happens if you use anything other than flat to "cut up" the object.

  • Will the shards be importable into unity 3d?

  • @Chrisy862 i really dont know, as i dont have any experience with unity, however, they are all separate objects, and you can add logic to them.

  • Hello Friend, this Script runs on Blender Alpha?

  • @GerouHouse on some versions, i think there should already be the fracture script inbuilt. In 3d view, press space, and search for "fracture object". Then follow throughout, however, i havent tried to do anything with it. On the blenderartists link in the description, read through the pages, and there should be a link to the Blender 2.5 version.

  • is there away to pause the cracks untill a later frame? Like have a standing object then be hit by somthing else and crack? Check out my video using crack me

  • Ok, I need some help with this shatter script...

I made a cube and scaled it down on the Z axis, so it's like a thin sheet..

Then I fractured it up and dropped it over a plane, however, some of the pieces keep falling through the plane, and it's really bugging me!!

Can someone give me any pointers for how to fix this??

  • @robosloth333 ok, go to the world buttons (where you enable ambient occlusion), and in the mist/star/physics tab, increase log, phys and sub to 5. Then run the game engine once more. Play with those settings, and understand how it affects your broken pieces. If your ground is a plane, you can also add thickness to your ground (extrude) and in logic panel, change the bounds for the ground to box.

  • Hey man, thanks!!

I've been lookin for help with this script for a while...

You also helped me a lot with the "Apply Size" thing... I never knew about that, and it had been causing me problems..

Running on my Macbook Pro, I wanted to see how high the fracture count could go, so I set it to 1,000... Took a couple minutes to make all the fractures, but it looks great when it breaks!!

    Great vid!!

  • hey can you make a tutorial on how to make a moving groundcrack with this script? thanks :)

  • it worked finally.. thanks.. your awsome.. i subbed :)

  • when i press alt p to vreate those hards it only asks me`` make parent``?. why?

  • how do open the script??

  • @sodium44 open up a text editor window, and just open the script

  • where should these scripts be placed? can they be placed anywhere or in somekind of blender folder?

  • I understood it but then I have been using blender for 9 years. But I doubt that a beginning blender user would. The would get lost in about the first 5 seconds.

  • @blackmoderte well it isnt really a beginner's tutorial. Maybe more towards intermidiate and advanced users, however, i wasnt by any means a pro when i made this tutorial.

  • Thanks, that was good information.

  • Thanks man ! Professional tutorial. Keep going!

  • Fantastic : ) Thanks for the script too!

  • That is soo cool :D

  • ermm do i have to move the object up in the air?

because i want to have just text shattering in all directionsss?

    Help? will this help?

And one more question. Once you have made one cube shatter can you copy and paste more to make multiple cubes colliding?? Please help

  • @Rorynoise it's not necessary to place the object in the air, but the tutorial was for an effect like that, so that's why i did that.

The best way of shattering text would probably be to select text, press alt+c --> mesh, add a particle system (2.49b), with the gravity set to 0, and use an explode modifier.

Multiple cubes shattering is possible, though more than one script from the .blend needs to be used, and a bigger game engine setup is needed, one more complex.

  • @blazraidr ohrite ok coool :S

Doubt ile be able to do the last bit :S erm or you could copy the square at the start and do it all over again -_-

  • @Rorynoise if you want 2 cubes colliding TOGETHER, then thats what i meant earlier.

if you want 2 cubes hitting the ground SEPARATELY, then yes, just repeat for the other cube.

i might have understood you wrong, but i think you're trying to do the second one said, yes?

  • @blazraidr ohritee yeah :D

So ile do it about 6 times on more cubes, woulddd loook prettty goood :D

  • there is no script file in the link.... just a blend file...

  • @Deks90 In the blend, the text editor has the script called crackler3d01. save it as a text file and then you can use it in other projects.

  • @blazraidr i actually figured it out myself :) thanks anyway :) and thanks for the awesome tutorial :)

  • open up a text editor window, and just open the script

  • need fps script

  • When I tried this it worked like yours until I started the game engine. The shatters seam to be deleted and a plain box falls. Please help

  • I am having the same issue, do you think it's becasue we are using later versions of Blender and the script?

  • im using 2.49b, and the user hasn't updated the script for over a year, so i can't help you guys out with that problem.

  • pretty good

  • Comment removed

  • it didn't work

  • it worked for me, could i ask you wat happend wrong

  • i hope they make this a blender modifier

  • you should render that out
