  • Wow great recording. And gorgeous song Dr. Douroux. We've been singing this song at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church.

  • I come to tears almost everytime I hear this song. It brings us into consideration about our lives and how we live. It's such a wonderful prayer.

  • Yes indeed. Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive others.

  • Oh my Lord...music just doesn't speak to this magnitude anymore. I mean just "Give me a clean heart." I just love this

  • Who is the soloist, my God, that woman has some anointed vocals, and the message so pure! My God Give me a clean Heart, so that I can serve you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @dbynum904 Annette May. She is the daughter of Rev Joe May.

  • I remember this at communion at the Bethany Baptist Church of West LA. The Executive Choir sang it every first Sunday. Brought such a presence of examination in the sanctuary. If you take it unworthily, you take damnation to your soul.

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! OH YES!

  • Please help me. I've been trying to buy this record for my 86 year old Great-Aunt and have been unsuccessful. I found it here and played it for her. She could not stop crying for my late Mema (grandmother) and her would sit and listen to this together thinking about how God protected them in the Orphanage as children. They had so much pain and resentment but only God could restore their hearts. She would like to have this song on CD so she can listen to it and worship. Can you help her, please?

  • @athenawilliams

I would be glad to make a copy of this song for your Great-Aunt.

    email me at amy.carter@dc.gov

and I will make her a copy. I love this song as well.

  • Wow, great song. I remember as a kid singing this in the choir. We didn't use drums and there was no set beat. The first few bars were slow and emotional with the Leslie organ and grand piano playing counterpoint. Great memories. Thank you Dr. Douroux

  • Take me back............back to the time when we sung like this, unto the Lord, not unto ourselves, when we did not trade Spirit for entertainment or gold.

  • This is a classic.

  • Truly a great song, having been recorded by choir(So.Cal Comm.Choir) AND Quartet (Willie Neal Johnson &the Gospel Keynotes),Both groups did their thing on it-lol

  • This is a true classic . Thank God for Music Selections like this.

  • God bless you. this was the first song I taught at GMWA. it brings back so many memories. also the first song i had ever written

  • God Bless You Dr Douroux. It is my pleasure to post this one of my favorite songs. You will go down in history as one of the most gifted songwriters ever. What a difference we would see in our lives if we would just pray lord give me a clean heart. It covers so much.

    God Bless You.

  • I remember this song as a kid growing up in the 70's. The church I was a part of, Deliverance Evangelistic Center in Brooklyn, under the late Apostle Arturo Skinner, the choir sang this song in every service. a real blessing.

  • @DrDouroux God Bless you!....this is one of my all-time favorite songs...I learned this when I was about 9 years old back in the 70's

  • Great song by the King of Gospel and the Southern California Choir!!!!

  • Wow!! I always love this song, by SCC.

I love SCC.They would always sing at our Choir anniversary every year, when the founder was living. And then after.

    Thanks for posting this song.

  • I've always heard this song as a child and never knew James Cleveland and the Southern California Community Choir recorded this great sound.

  • so glad you posted this song! and i love the piano on this, great church touch!

  • *Rev.Cleveland on the piano.

  • Excellent! Today's "gospel" choirs and groups don't sing hymns anymore. Especially the original way it was written.

  • You are so right....but my choir back home in atl...sings "Oh To Be Kept" the original way....and the whole church goes in every time.............
