ha ha the whole time I was watching this I was kinda hoping he would fall off! lol I love the part when he is facing you like a drill Sargent or a paddling coach very serious looking. I want to get a little dog now and place him on my dagger approach! Great video! Thank you for sharing.
I just bought a dachshund a couple weeks ago and I'm gonna start doing this with my dog as soon as I can save up enough for a quality kayak boat. I'm thinking about getting a wilderness systems. The only challenge will be to get the dog to not be afraid of water.
@mbecker130 We love the upper current river they are great floats to paddle! Yeah you need a rat terrier if you dont have one!! fearless little dogs! lol we are heading up there again around the end of winter to check out the scenery. Its much different than summer time you get a whole different perspective of the scenery with no underbrush or leaves on trees. Plus you will get to see some eagles flying on the river as well hunting for fish.
Very nice video, a well behaved pup. Great Paddling skill(One Handed). The other hand must have been holding the camera. I had made a few videos like this until I made a camera mount. Very Picturesque video, thanks for sharing!
@nj4x4fever2 Thanks for comment! Yes you are right I had to paddle with one hand and hold camera with other! lol He is a great outdoor dog!
I wont have that problem any longer, I got the Gopro hero wide HD camera now! I will be posting some awesome high definition footage on my YouTube channels(supersapper206, burchzone, and outdoorzone) in near future.
Cool video. I'm trying to find a kayak that will hold me (155lb) and my 70lb dog. The weight of both of us seems to put us in the upper end of most kayaks. Does having the dog in front like that mess up your balance?
@veggiem0nster You may want to look into a tandem 2 seater kayak like a wilderness systems pamlico 135T since you have a larger breed dog! They handle great also I have used one in the past.
@veggiem0nster No affect on balance at all! My dog only weighs 13lb lol yours on the other hand might be a different story, lol. If you get a tandem kayak it wont be a problem at all it should handle perfect!
@solidwastedjeff This was normal conditions, it usually averages about 2.5 ft on most of the river especially in the rougher water and up to 5-8 ft. in slower parts of the river. The rangers monitor the river and if it averages higher than 2.5 ft they will close sections of the river until it drops bachk down. Its pretty safe there. My 10 yr old step son just went on his first trip there this past wknd and he had no problem handling a 12ft kayak for the 22 miles we paddled.
Man I loved watching this video! Made me want to be out there right now.

Did you have to introduce this to your dog early on? How did it become so comfortable or was it its own idea?

I love this video! I usually do this same stretch of the Current once a year in my Pungo 120. After watching this, I think I need a rat terrier too.
