I am getting my first violin for Christmas this year and am so excited. I am 20 years old and I've never even held one before but have always wanted to learn. I'm going through and watching all of your videos and plan to do so continuously once I get it. Thank you so much and wish me luck! I'll be posting videos of my progress. <3
I am looking to but a violin and founda violin with great reviews on amazon, should I buy it? And I went to a music store and the guy there said I was a 3/4 so.. here it is... if you type this in on amazon you will see it(im a beggener)-- Cecilio CVN-200 Rosewood Fitted Solid Wood Violin + Hard Case, 2 Bows, Rosin & Extra Set of Strings & Bridge ~ Teacher Approved! in Size 3/4
You saved me the other day. I was just about to touch the bow and you came out and said" you should never touch the bow hair or the rosin or you won't play as well" you saved me!! :) thank-you!
I'm very impressed with what I've seen of your lessons on You Tube!
So impressed in fact that I intend to buy the entire set of DVD's you've made,
I also intend to tell my son and my sister about them as well since both of them have just recently begun studying the violin and have been struggling in areas that you address in your lessons.
@janbakayi Yes I will be adding a few more lessons to YouTube, but I can't give ALL of them away for free, unfortunately. For a long time I've only had the first 5 lessons on here, but I recently added Lesson 6 and I may be adding 4 more lessons soon so that I will have my first 10 lessons available to watch on here for free : )
@ml07k - You don't need a special violin. Most left handed people learn to play the violin the exact same way as people who are right handed. You will have a little bit more trouble with learning to use the bow, but you will have an advantage with your left hand technique since that is your dominant hand. There are left handed violins out there, but I don't recommend them because then you'll never be able to play in a group as you won't fit in with everyone else.
I'm the kind of person who wakes up and says "I'm going to learn the violin today" I did the same with with languages and it hasn't failed yet. Half and hour later after watching your videos waking up and thinking this doesn't seem so impossible (obviously it's been on my mind for years buy today I decided was a good day to do it.)
Thanks so much!!! This was very helpful as to hold the bow!! I have been playing for over ten years, and I STILL don't really know how to hold the bow:(
Many years ago, I bought a violin. Then due to difficulties in learning, even with a Teacher, I just put my Violin away. Now that I have found you on Youtube, I just bought another violin :Valencia" from Spain. I really want to learn from you.
I have been teaching violin to elementary students grades 4-6 for 20 years. I will share this video instruction with them. Outstanding presentation and great teaching!
I like your lessons. They are exactly what some beginner needs: simple, clear, easy to understand- and most importatnt- they are focused on topic! Thank you. Keep going like that.

You mean the "Flip the bird" finger, not the ring finger, then you'd have a horizontal thumb and that can be uncomfortable

I'm a little confused ... Does the bow just glide over the strings or something else .. i know it's a stupid question ii'm just total stumped
