Chi IS a metaphor. If you believe in ghosts, you can also believe in chi I guess. I have trained with Chinese masters and as one of them once said to me, ' In china we only talk about someones Chi when they are old and sickly.'
@micsir888 lol, I love how you think having trained in China somehow gives your opinion validity. Guess what. I've trained in China too. And Taiwan. That doesn't make me an expert. Furthermore, most people who say they've trained in China have just done modern wushu crap, which is in no way traditional kung fu. As far as qi as a metaphor, what do you think of TCM? Is it some sort of voodoo, witchdoctor system in your mind? Are all the people helped by it just feeling the placebo effect?
@metalbeast You misinterpretted everything I said. Talking about residual heat emanating from EXERCISES, coupled with proper breathing techniques. It's great for your health and thats it. Stop looking for a golden goose. You misinterpreted everthing I said, so I guess it's normal that you should be one to misinterpret an analogy. Work more on assimilating before you get to refining your cultivation(of chi or whatever).
It's impossible to judge or criticize anything without first hand experience.
If you can come to that conclusion without out any first hand knowledge of the subject, then either you're a genius or pretty arrogant.
Also, although qi can be stated as a theory, so can the majority of science. Most of science isn't even fact at this point, only theory. Hell, even electricity is a theory.
The only time you should be able to criticize is when you have personal evidence to back it up.
astemeric, a scientific theory is presented as a fact. It's not the type of theory commonly used in the English language, but that being said not all scientific theories are necessarily true and chi could very possibly be real
the video proves nothing and qi is really a metaphore. but pseudoscientific is the wrong word, chinese never tried to integrate this concept into western terminology.
chi is not a metaphor..i have seen it and i have felt it..can u prove me wrong?and if it's just an illusion then i thank illusions for preventing surgery :)...if u havent practises taichi or something like it u can not know..and btw it's an ordinary fist on the outside :)..
Prove you wrong? Are you joking? That isn't the way the scientific method works, chief.
There is no scientific evidence to support its existence. It's a philosophical belief which you cannot back up. Illusions are irrelevant. He has a swollen fist. It has absolutely nothing to do with chi, fairies, goblins or God.
I agree with u on the fist part..But science does not know all,in fact she knows only a few or "nothing"..i m not saying that science is wrong but scientists just haven't gone that far to explain chi..but still there are some quantum physicists that have proven something with their methods about chi.please don't take a science as a religion..remember thet the so called scientists were saying that the earth wasn;t round while gallileo said it was..we have a long way to go..
They haven't explained Chi because there is actually no evidence at all it even exists. It's really that simple.
And you're actually totally wrong there; Galileo WAS the scientist of his day. It was the church, an entity which insists on the existance of something for which there is no evidence, which condemned him.
Wait....sounds familiar, doesn't it? Chi doesn't have any evidence either...
the west knows about chi, it's energy. you learn about it in physics and chemistry.
but the west is an outer science only, it does not accept any information that is gained through direct experience, only through indirect methods
the taoist science of life energy development is very real, but it's an inner science, weve already rejected it before we even experience it
as our sciences merge, and we find an inner/outer science, chi will become well understood and humanity will gain great benefit

I was watching his fist pretty closely, and I still think chi is nothing more than a pseudoscientific metaphor.
What is this video supposed to prove? All I see is a hand which looks like he's having a severe allergic reaction to something.
