  • Cedrick, try turning down your french horns maybe 4db, avoid quantizing the percussion and is there a compressor or something on the master? It sounds a little pumpy. Otherwise sounds good!

  • @NeilParfitt

I didn't even know what a compressor was back then...

  • Sounds synthy. Or, may be it is just my pc.

  • Very good! Good job! Sounds majestic;)

  • Nice...sounds goods...i have a few questions if we can get into a 1 on 1 chat...

  • hımmm ok . sorry . good works . . .

  • Amazing work, can you tell me how did you record that video?Id like to put something u in here too but dont know how to rec your cubase like that?thanks in advance and im on mac

  • very good -

  • i have to do this!! you did all of this with a MIDI controller? I'm pretty green at this but i would love to write orchestration like this!

  • A really nice track, well put together, nicely mixed, will say its perhaps a little too dry on the strings in terms of reverb to just thicken up your overall which will help fill out some of the aural gaps in the track because you have a lot of "swells" and I find that the strings become too detached from one another but its just a thought :)

Anyway definatly enjoyed the track, please take the time to have a look at a few of my pieces.

    Thanks :)

  • good composition .. I hate the fact that every single instrument is quantized though ..

    good work!

  • Have you ever tried sibalious it looks a lot harder than using this

  • @chaziscool1234

Sibelius is a music notation program, it's not designed for making midi-based music with samples. So there is no comparison between Cubase and Sibelius, they are just entirely different programs.

  • @CedricKristian Actually you can use Kontakt with Sibelius and route the midi channels to the midi inputs of Sibelius thus using samples from an actual score editor. The downside would be getting the computer feel to it and less of the human element. Sure, Sibelius and Finale both have the "Human playback" option, but it really does not do a whole lot to take out the robotic-like style it plays with.

  • @TheDarris

I know. What is really interesting here as well is that you could use free soundsets of Jonathan Loving to combine Kontakt with famous players like ewqlso gold, lass and many others. This way the midi data of those libraries would react as a real player would - it will be able to read staccato, pizzicato and dynamics like forte and piano. And this way you can configure it with those great sounding libraries!

  • It would sound better if your strings would have some sustain and play with the EQ with all the sounds. Nice piece tho.

  • @CedricKristian I bet. However, I am not going to spread cheeks and allow cock in my wallet! These capitalist scum overprice all their music packs from like 800 bucks and up. I wanted Tonehammer Requiem only to find out it's one tought fucker to break, it's nigh impossible. I probably need to invent my own keygen for that.

  • @CedricKristian Why thank you. I feel lucky! Although it cost me over 3000 bucks. But it's an investment I was willing to make. I needs me some Battlefield 3.

  • It takes you several minutes to load 8 instruments on EWQLSO? Man, it takes like 4 seconds for me. Guess those 12 gigs of ram I put in the computer do work after all?

  • @WolfySnackrib666 Hey, just so you don't end up wasting money you should know that amount of RAM won't affect loading speed too much. It's the speed of the RAM that counts, and whether you have enough to load the instruments in the first place. I have 8 GBs that that's enough to load a full symphony orchestra in EWQL with multiple articulations for each instruments.

  • @CaptainKanuk42 Well all I know is that what samples people claim takes them minutes to load, takes me about 3 - 5 seconds to load so I'm pretty content.

  • nice work man, i just want to add that you can run ewqlso just one time and not 8 with the F11 button i think(multi routing)...and then you want have crashes anymore:)

  • @jimkaragian1

thx. I did run it all within one kompakt player. This usually isn't the issue, it's all about the ram memory of your computer and you can prevent this by changing the loading- / dfd settings.

  • @CedricKristian dfd settings? how can you run ewqlso in kontakt? i know there is ewqlso.dll right?

  • @jimkaragian1

I was talking about kompakt, this is the engine behind the ewqlso player/window you usually see. It has a buttom for dfd settings, search on google for ewqlso kompakt dfd settings and you will find a good explanation...

and yes, you can run ewqlso in kontakt as well [not what I meant but never mind], just like all other ewql products, and especially this makes a great player for all your ewql - and other sample libraries and plugins.

  • @CedricKristian Ok, i think i know what you mean...Thanx man

  • i love this! i imagine like an army of soldiers standing around, ready to go to war. or something. my critique: the part from 0:20 to 0:56, to me, is too... discrete. i think you should have some kind of falling off as notes end, and rising as notes start. not very pronounced mind you, very very subtle. it would sound more natural to me. i think. idk. this works. i might be wrong!

  • No melody

  • Hi,

This is amazing man! I'm into writing orchestral music and I've just got the newest cubase, but i need some decent sounds... Would you reccomend the EWQLSO gold?

  • @jdjep

Myself I started with EWQLSO gold but I never use it anymore, because ProjectSAM Symphobia and LASS have - to my opinion - a much more authentic sound that adds something to your compositions. EWQLSO is ok considering quality, but the sounds they give are boring compared to those other two libraries.

  • Great work! I was wondering if you could help me out with EWSO, I just got it and I'm working on a piece on Cubase 5 but I still can't figure out how to use the expressions and articulations on the key editor to make it sound real. Do you use any kind of expression map, or you just use the articulations like velocity and stuff? I can't get my legatos to sound good. Thanks!

  • hei good job man ;) you are great. but i don't understand... did you writed on cubase this music or did you use a program like finale and then cubase and ewqlso for the sound?

  • @MrDioCcane

thx. I wrote this within cubase - I was just playing around and recording on a midi keyboard for this. I do use finale though if I want to create a score - or for writing classical piano music

  • @CedricKristian sorry, i don't understand yet. i always used scorewriter programs and i would be happy if you explain me very good how to use ewqlso with cubase... contact me to this email mrook@hotmail.it

  • Its music all right! I like it, you got talent but it´s hard to say wether it is a good film score or not since it´s without any actual film.

  • @bulger020 A good film score can suggest an emotion without distracting the viewer or attracting attention away from what is happening visually

  • whats this site called where i can download this

  • @TheSPEEZY99

    thats illegal dude

  • @CedricKristian Maybe, but charging £300 for a piece of software is immoral

  • @RobBrooksMusic

This price is set for professionals earning their money with this software. So before you reach that profession you might have to find other ways that are just as immoral as their prices :P

  • @RobBrooksMusic It's a niche market. Is it immoral to try and make a decent living?

  • @Swidhelm The problem is that lots of people get this stuff illegally, so it's not like only the top pros have this software, which would be the case with something like a real life Stradivarius violin

  • @RobBrooksMusic True enough, but if one is opting to go the professional route, getting caught with pirated stuff would probably destroy one's reputation in the industry. Me I'm a broke ass, and have been trying to scrape the coin together for a long while now to get VSL.

  • @Swidhelm Hold up dude. Native Instruments' Komplete 8's been announced and it's one HELL of a package. dv247 magazine has a new entry about it and there' a comparison chart also. I have EW Silver and Gypsy. Although they certainly sound better than Komplete, you'd be surprised at how close Komplete's library gets and you get so much more with it. It's the sweet spot for price to performance. Worth a look

  • It's sounds like Lord of the Rings.

  • @thomasleur

    Really?

I love the music of Lord of the Rings... (:

  • @CedricKristian yeah it does sound like lord of the rings for real lol

  • no i dont like it , only the sound of the instruments are good !

  • hey Dude How are you..Great Music..May I ask you a question...I Just got a Macbook Pro after a many year experience on Windows...I was using EWQLSO Golden Edition on Fl Studio. Anyway in the Macbook I do not possess the installer for EWQLSO Golden Edition but I do have all the Libraries...What should I do? Could you send me in my e-mail only the installer? THANKS! I would really appreciate it...

  • Very nice work!!

I have a question, how do you use EWQL in Cubase... I can't find any tutorial anywhere for it.

I want to know before I buy it!

  • A very fine work, congratz.

  • Nice!

  • Thanx for the reply! Oh and by the way,Great composition! Nice job

  • why not use East west as a stand alone if it is giving you troubles?

  • @poptarts47

you will need a midi editor provided in cubase to make a song out of a vst instrument

  • @CedricKristian Im learning to play the piano, however can you use piano roll in Cubase using virtual instruments?

  • @CedricKristian

why not using then fl studio? if you mixing and do your masteirng in fl studio^^ you can record in fl studio too ;)

  • @DKAkuYaenko

As I said, fl studio is good for samples, but works desperately poor with vst plugins [like ewqlso]

Moreover, I prefer cubase's midi-editor, works much faster.

And now I have NI Kontakt 4, I can very easily master in cubase

oh and my last point - fruity loops usually screws up the sound quality

  • @CedricKristian

Why FL Studio works poor with VST-PlugIns?^^ It have the same soundquality like in Cubase and the midi-recording is like in Cubase, After recording just quantize and spend 1 minute to take the notes on the right step.

  • @DKAkuYaenko

No offense dude, but FL is a baby in the DAW game. Cubase/Nuendo/DP/PT/Logic are leaps and bounds ahead of FL in terms of flexibility and routing and such. I'm not even knocking FL, as I've used it before. I'm just saying switching from Cubase to FL is a *bit* of a downgrade...

  • @CedricKristian

No, it works incredibly good with VSTs. The workflow in FL Studio with VSTs is much smoother than in Cubase. I own both and I know this for a fact. You should use ASIO for good render quality. Only noobs will tell you that FL "is a baby" like jrhager84. I use FL Studio, Cubase and Pro Tools equally much, but FL Studio is by far the best for this purpose.

  • @MagnusRulerHardt agreed with Cedric. I own Cubase and FL Studio. The workflow in FL Studio 10 is amazing IF you know the program.

  • @DevinJMorrison

That is basically what I said, while Cedric said it is horrible with VST plugins. It's the opposite. FL Studio was designed for VSTs and easy midi control and note editing.

  • hey mate ;D thanks for help me to get ewql . so i have now compose orchestral music in cubase, pls check it out in videoanswer ;D

ps: which stringpresets you have used for the starting stringchords?

  • THIS IS AWESOME!

And I have some questions to you ^^ I use FL Studio for my songs and I have the VSTi Plugin "Edirol Orchestral". Its also good for orchestral songs (check for example my video answer). But I have a really big problem: I have a midi cable and a digital piano with midi options, but if i start to play with it, the velocity isnt 100% right in FL Studio... is the verlocity in Cubase 100% right? and did i need a midi keyboard to use this progam?

    Peace, Ilja

    and pls answer^^

  • @CedricKristian You mean "Buy" the pluggins wink wink

  • good but a little bit slow dont u think ?

  • wait so how does this work...is this a program you load and use in conjunction with cubase? So basically I cannot make something like this with cubase alone? Sorry I'm new to all this

  • the strings sound shit the brass sounds good

  • Do you need the score editor to do this kind of stuff then, or do most people just use the MIDI editor? I'm currently learning music theory so limiting myself to the score editor for that purpose, and so far I want to punch it in the face. That's what you get for learning by ear for 15 years.

  • Hey there :) You'll like QLSO... there's crazy amounts of potential in the software, you'll love it. However, no matter the realism, one big thing that gives it away is the articulation and some of the envelopes... SO, a good little tip to make the violins to sound more realistic is to play the note changes more together instead of seperately, Like hit your next note, as you're letting off of the first. in some cases, it blends together and makes a more natural sound.. toy with it, :)

  • if reverb little more it would be better

  • I worked out how to make strings sound more authentic in cubase just today by accident. I was like "i need it to sound this way" then i thought FUCK thats all I have to do. I love cubase.

  • Not bad Cedric. I like the string motif alot. Only suggestions is that you rarely hear brass sustaining roots like you've arranged this - it sounds a little too much like "someone play brass on a keyboard". You could try moving the string motif to bassoon (that would sound wkd) and then allow the strings to supply the sustained notes. Just a suggestion :o)

  • The good old days of Cubase. You'll need to get away from Cubase if you want it to sound 100% natural. Interesting composition as it sounded like you were just getting warmed up.

  • @JamesRoneyMusic What program do you recommend?

  • @JamesRoneyMusic

I thought that Cubase was - together with Logic - the best program for making music. Is their any other program to make it more natural, besides playing life instruments? (note that I did not master this project and added no effects like reverb to make it sound more natural)

So what program do you recommend?

  • @CedricKristian... Logic Pro 9.0 or higher. Making it sound 100% natural relies heavily on the user/programmer. Thus we may have the best software there is to work with... but if we don't know how to get the most out of it, then that classic Hollywood sound is lost. It's a real art... and the right way to launch string sounds is the number one downfall among some 90% of computer driven software instruments. No one said this is easy, thus I developed a special formula for string sounds alone.

  • @JamesRoneyMusic, thank you for your feetback

A special formula, could you maybe explain this or learn me how to make my string sounds come out more realistic?

  • @CedricKristian... I have the formula written down and will be glad to send it to you directly. Just email me and tell me where to send it. Please note it may take me a small while before I get it out to you as I need to located it first. If anything, I need to first review it again, as to make sure there is nothing there missing as I wrote it down in a hurry for someone else who requested it. If you're really into strings, you will never program strings the same way ever again.

  • @CedricKristian Im not familiar with EWQL... It's on the way, but this does sound a little fake... Reverb, EQ, Compression.. Those would help this... and chord.. playing single notes is where your lacking! When this dude posts his formula, if it's not secret perhaps you'de like to show us what you learned?

  • @Zombiejimful

I wished I could, as this dude didn't send me any formula at all o O

Your right about the reverb, eq and compression, but I am not into this. And I don't even have any idea how I could do this directly to the midi plugin without rendering it first, so I think there isn't much technical I could learn you xD

  • @JamesRoneyMusic umm how would having cubase halt a "100% natural sound" any more than logic? If ya understand how to use CC and the VSTs articulations, the DAW should not make a difference....

  • @JamesRoneyMusic can you share that with me too?

  • @fogottenrocker... yes. contact me directly via Youtube and I can cut and paste the string formula into Youtube's email handler.

    Cheers!

    James

  • @JamesRoneyMusic Cubase is good enough for Hans Zimmer. Nuff Said.

  • @HandyTheXxxX ... I agree with you. Only once you outgrow Cubase will you see otherwise. Until then, Cubase is all you will ever need. Enough Said.

  • @JamesRoneyMusic for a natural sound you just need to mix and use the proper plugins.

  • @bestplugins... example... there is no warmth and fidelity in this string sample, thus plugins are not the magic bullet, rather it's only part of the journey to getting there. No to mention nuances are not Cubase's stronger points. I lived and breathed Cubase for some 15 years, and not until I got involved with Pro Tools and especially Logic Pro did I know any better. Cubase is not used for block buster films and for good reason. Cubase is user friendly home studio software.

  • @JamesRoneyMusic What do you mean "you'll have to get away from Cubase to sound 100% natural"? Are you saying there's a better DAW, or that any DAW is going to sound artificial ?

  • @youchooooooob... Logic Pro 9.0 or higher.

  • not bad, sounds like hans zimmer style, i bet you have becomed a better composer know!!! keep up the good work and mabie you will become ann composer who earn money i hope:)

  • Man its sucks to be Poor, I've been wanting to get that Vst for ages... i'm still saving hahaha

  • @nitrosray

I got myself a 'try-out' version. As long as I don't earn money with making music I neither have the budget to buy the real stuff, so I get myself the 'fake' stuff ;)

  • @nitrosray

If you haven't got it yet, it's awesome and worth it. You need a seriously good PC to make it usable.

  • @MagnusRulerHardt

Lol mate, I got it this morning and its so heavy on the system resources.... i have 3 gig ram and 1 choir eats that completely :O.... I will buy a new pc with 8 gig ram in 2 months

  • @nitrosray

Cool. It's too much on my 4 gigs too. I've just bought 4 more.

  • not baaad!

  • Great composition keep making stuff like this ^-^

  • Hi!

    I compose on Sibelius...

Would you make a video teaching us how to record a midi with ewql sounds on cubase?

  • @garotobossanova

Recording midi is an keyboard issue, you need to get your keyboard working in Cubase and press record!

And the ewql sounds, thats just a vst plugin like all others which you can load in there, that is not relevant for recording midi

    I hope this helps

  • @garotobossanova Using Sibelius is like 1000 times harder than using Cubase Piano Roll.

  • Well, it would be harder to me to learn how to play piano as I have tendinites... that's why I compose on Sibelius...

  • nice work :) I like the string staccato parts a lot. thanks.

  • hey man, nicely done on your first film composition...I like what you did with the brass, the strings could use a bit more reverb, and maybe "pan" (location of instruments) out the sections so there's a balance... e.g. strings on the left, brass on the right... the more and more you compose the better you will be at it, eventually finding your own voice :)

  • Nice composition!!

    take care

  • Well done, my friend! I like this type of music and compositions....:-)

    KEEP ON!

    You got mine 5 stars....

    -Luca

  • Hey, Cedric, great toy !!! ^^ really sounds cineastic ! ^^
