  • Great band. Great show.

  • these old MS's are a hoot--bands playing live instead of the old lypsinc, and really trying to boot-Perfect venue for a band like Cheap Trick-- a complete Rock concert in under 4 and a half minutes--no mean feat!

  • Been a fan for decades, I love Zander, one of my crushes!

  • @Hurutigon Same here, man.

  • happy birthday Robin!

  • These boys almost all of em are high on some kind of dope when they on stage

  • @BrokenneckYgor How would you know? Are you "one of the boys"?

  • @BrokenneckYgor An' you on some dope when you is typin at the keybode. Back up and surrender to the "boys"!

  • that drummer <3

  • crazy band... just the way it ends... Nielsen don't have a clue apparently... this man as a surreal look ...really out of time...

I can't understand this public... they seems to be half dead...

  • Bands could play and write their own songs in those days.

  • I really can't believe this does'nt have more views?Mommy and Daddy are just a little weird i quess:}

  • bwahahaha there is an ELO song called surrender....

This one is really good, too.

  • @msbluesky10538 ...a more symphonic way to be influenced by the beatles... i like both bands... but for the moment i better like the Trick to the Light

  • @BohemianConspiracy

haha you just "surrendered," then XD (to Cheap Trick, that is...)

  • @msbluesky10538 yeah...it's...Hands Up! ...it's the only way to remain alive when Nielsen hold his guitar like a double-barrelled shotgun... hopefully he's too funny to shoot... apparently not everybody is Ted Nugent

  • @BohemianConspiracy

Haha then I'm jealous of Nielsen because no one is ever afraid of me when I hold my viola case like a machine gun XD (jk)

  • not much to say just fucking epic

  • Wow this is amazing. I hate all the "music" today. It's a disgrace to even call it that. I wish I was born in the 60's so I could have grown up with awesome music like this!

  • Mommy and Daddy are not alright, I'm going to stab them to death while they sleep and then burn the house down.

  • this is a lullaby

  • I was born in Detroit

  • LOL What other band had a drummer with a ciggy hanging from his mouth while he pounded the skins? Cheap Trick were just to cool.

  • Ringo in The Beatles video for " Your Going To Lose That Girl"

  • @dsfddsgh

    Metallica

  • @PieceofMindmusic Funny comment there.

  • Cheap Trick came around just as I was discovering Bowery Boy movies, so it kind of blew my mind the guitarist was obviously going for a Satch thing.

  • Entry to Detroit Rock City!!!

  • 16 people used to be Cheap Trick fans like us. Then they took an arrow to the knee.

  • OMG what a rush that concert was back in '79, circa Baltimore. Patty C. agreed to go with me to hear Cheap Trick. We got into the music and then later we were totally into each other. Cheap Trick had a way of doing that to teenage guys and gals of the period. "Surrender, surrender.."

  • @jeff62rey Your post makes me nostalgic and sentimental. Had I known then what I know now. So many have gone on, so many lost. What a magical time it was. No cell phones, no video games, no computers, 3 stations on the tele, vinyl records, 8 tracks, big cars, gas at 50 cents a gallon. Hide - n - seek, baseball, frisbee, bicycles, mini bikes, go-carts. Things that were taboo then are normal now. Innocence is the biggest casualty of this age. We lost it long ago.

  • @Longhammer37214 A-M-E-N my friend. My exact feeling! When I think about the '70s, I always get the feeling that everything was simpler and we had ideals that, yes, were maybe a bit naive, but still we were believing in them and it was driving us. Now it's me me me me and me again.

  • Hang in there bro, at least we were there and have the memories. I actually feel sorry for the younger folks that will never experience what it was really like back then.

  • @Longhammer37214 yeah, that's true. I was explaining to my 5 year old son what it was like to see Star Wars back then. I think he understood because he's a fan now.

At least I have mountains of big format slides and super 8 movies from my childhood.

    Take care bro!

  • @Longhammer37214

I'm one of those "younger folk" and I'm seriously wishing for a time machine...(not to screw up the space/time continuum or anything, but...)

Most of the music I like comes from those decades that were unfortunately way before my time and I'm always wishing that I could listen to vinyl records, wear peace signs, and see these awesome musicians in concert. You guys were so lucky - politics may have been turbulent during your time, but at least the music scene was rocking!

  • What a great fucking band!!!!!!! God bless Cheap Trick

  • is the "we're all alright" from that 70s show seriously from this song?

  • @rocknroll9queen sure is!

  • @rocknroll9queen no! That song is actually a remake from a 70s song.

  • I still love them

  • I can't imagine my life without Cheap Trick in it...

  • I LOVE SURRENDER

  • sir. SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS

  • The drummer looks like some office dude on smoke break.

This was back when the music was great.

Nothing like good live music bands.

  • i loved cheap trick to death. wore that record OUT honny...

  • The drummer wasn't "techincally" smoking (the cig wasn't lit) but he was to busy laying down some epic skin to take it out.

  • @SOSbassman He was smoking. It is lit, he always smokes while playing.

  • Yes" Obama is a Fucking Nazi IDIOT! and Terroracist!..God Bless Ted Nugent and the Free for All Rock Force!..

  • This song reminds me of Boogie nights(I know it is not in the movie) ..like when it's over the party ends, little bill pulls a murder suicide, and the 80's happen. Fuckity fuck fuck fuck

  • Drummers smoking....Obama Nazi's will soon ban this video

  • @reprahdm obama smokes

  • @villageoblivia Yes, but when does that ever stop politicians from telling you how to live your life? Al Gore is a leer jet flying environmentalist.

  • STILL a great band to see LIVE to this day!!

  • Hello WISCONSIN!!!

  • Oh. Why did Robin get rid of his fringe and do that stupid brush over thing.

  • I hope Rick had a roadie in the audience to catch that guitar - would not want to get hit with that when you weren't looking!

  • I hope RIck had a roadie in the audience to catch that guitar - would not want to get hit with that when you weren't looking!

  • My parents bought me this album for christmas...back in the day....awesome !

  • I love how they basically sang a sex pistols song yet they knew how to play and sing and get away with it!! NOt saying they were singing a sex pistols song, just on the same line

  • @RBTAK71 Exactly! As I was watching this.. I thought the same thing! Then saw your comment..haha.cool.

  • I love how they basically sang a sex pistols song yet they knew how to play and sing and get away with it!!

  • I love the midnight special Robin is a little hottie even now ,,,,

  • This is so f*cking great I can't believe it!!!!

  • The Rock and Roll hall of Fame is peer voted. So many bands deserve but only so many can go it not to make it, excuse the pun, CHEAP.

  • Best band that will never be put in the Rock nRoll hall of fame. Rush never gets in either. What a joke the RNRHOF is.

  • Man sounds great! with this Bose ear piece.

  • like if this song changed your life

  • @MrGreendayfan10 Thumbs up if this song changed your life in better but you don't wanna thumbs up @ Mrgreendayfan10 :P

  • Bun E's all right, Tommy's all right,

Robin's all right, Rick's all right. Right?

  • AMAZING live show.

  • My first boyfriend looked just like Robin with green eyes :)

  • Bun E Carlos dont have much of a Drum set, but you know what he dont need a large set of Drums.

  • I photographed Cheap Trick in 77 when they opened for Kiss. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • @mrianmark Kiss should've opened for Cheap Trick.

  • @skrason Your not the first person to say that to me.

  • best lookin drummer ever

  • Howard stern !!!

  • the standard against which all power pop must be measured. nothing else comes close.

  • great song

  • Bun EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE. is the man!!!!!!!!!

  • When they're singing "we're all alright" that reminded me of that 70s show theme song

  • @simondave00 It should! :) It was done on purpose. It reflected this. They sang that too.

  • A well written song with smart lyrics, top notch musicianship and vocals that don't sound as if the singer is straining to push out last night's dinner. What a refreshing reminder of what used the radio used to be filled with.

  • My God what a great band they are nothing compares to them . I hate what music has become now . Just want to to go back to the 70s .

  • The Greatest band on Earth. Fuckin Period!!!!!!!!!!

  • My all time favorite by Cheap Trick -- still!

  • Love the cigarette dangling from the drummers mouth...

  • EA Skate

  • I'd forgotten how cute he was!

  • There was some great music in those days but now there's more variety and fewer bands tied into the recording contract thing like in our day. And today's kids have 50 years of great music to explore.

  • @kristell9

None of today's "music" will even see the "Rock'N'Roll" Hall of Fame!!!

  • @CheapLick The Rock'N'Roll hall of fame is fucking bullcrap. They completely ignore Punk, Prog and Metal. Also, there is really good modern Rock music. Stuff like Black Keys, Coheed and Cambria, the Mars Volta, Mumford and Sons, Muse, Band of Skulls, Espers, Fleet Foxes, and many other great stuff.

  • ABC should bring back the Midnight Special keep it real no lip syncing

  • actually, the show was on NBC.

  • "Got my Kiss records out" Own! ! !

  • I photographed Cheap Trick in 77. To see the shots go to 70srockphotos (.com)

  • of course they are necessary...fans LOVE them...

  • sorry, i meant mike damone, not simone, its early morning and i`m drunk, speaking of great music, if you like this performance, i advise watching blinded by the light by manfred mann on midnight special, a great cover of the boss, went number one, or manfred mann`s one way glass, which is sampled by the prodigy track stand up, and if you know the prodigy, then you are already aware of great music

  • watching fast times at ridgemont high, simone singing the lyrics, you`d never see anything comparable to todays teen movies, some guy singing justin bieber trying to convince a girl to buy tickets, meanwhile she is already under the music industry`s subliminal mind control, buying his perfume and movie, wtf happend to great music

  • Always open even at my age to new music that has CREATIVITY. Only found in fringe, underground bands these days. Stuff like Cheap Trick captured minds and passions. Don't see that today. Prove me wrong!

  • @jeff62rey ? You're joking right?

  • Mediocre? It's elemental!

  • prob not but the hell! lol

  • Mediocre shit.

  • @LDZPLEN

    eat a big dick.

  • Glad they did give us a shot, eve if it was quick, of the drummer. He is not only a great drummer, but had one of the classic names in rock and roll, Bun E. Carlos.

  • AMEN !!!

I have 50+ picks from Rick over the years ... love every one of them !!!

  • 10 Bieber wannabes

  • This has to be a recording right off the console but it sounds so great.

  • Check out their Mariachi version... it is great

  • i use to have a crush on Robin Zander

  • how old is this video?

  • I saw them twice live back in 1980-1981 awesome awesome awesome awesome live band

  • three word for you: bun e carlos!

  • Its funny how cheap trick has two of the best lookin guys (vocalist and bassist) and two of the ugliest lookin guys ever (drummer & guitarist)... And yet, The real talent in the band lies with the same aforementioned ugly guitarist and drummer... And now Robin zander fangirls please dont flame me....you know its the truth.. :D

  • @Cryptorchild92 Tom Petersson (Bass) plays a twelve string bass. I play a 4 string decently well, and if someone handed me a 12 string I would probably cry a little. Petersson is definitly a good bassist, no doubt about it.

  • Fuck yeah !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow what a blast of power pop and hard rock.

  • Bun E. is still back there looking like someone's dad on drums.

  • Who are the 10 which didn't like this? Justin Bieber fan's?

  • WOW! This proves that they were the most influential hard rock band! This is Live!

  • อ่อน

  • Wow. This video has a like/dislike ratio of 999 to 9. You seldom see a ratio that's better than 100 to 1.

  • Am I the only one who thinks Pee Wee Herman in on the guitar?

  • Robin Zander was pretty fine at this time, I remember seeing AC/DC, Cheap Trick, and Kiss all in one show in Seattle in 1978...AC/DC opened (with Bon Scott!) then Cheap Trick, we were standing up near the front of the stage and I swear Robin pointed right at me when he sang "I'd meet girls like YOU!!" One of the best shows I've ever been to!!

  • When i watch this Amazing Clip i think of Mike Demone's Line from the movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High as he is trying to scalp Cheap Trick Tickets to this girl.."Can you honestly tell me you forgot? Forgot the magnetism of Robin Zander, or the charisma of Rick Nielsen?

  • @cessna65423 Your comment made me laugh cause I totally forgot about that part in FTRMH. I lived in California when that movie came out and was in High school class of '84 so you could only imagine how close to home that film felt to me and my classmates. So many great lines and 80's references. It is great that film produced so many big time stars as well.

  • ...with Paul Bart the Mall Cop on the drums!

  • I remember this like it was yesterday! I could not believe how the band were so cool and how catchy the song was! Rick with those guitars! WOW! Lots of talent there.

  • GREAT LIVE TUNE!

  • In response to kbbcoop, I was at that concert at the Budokan in Tokyo when I was in the Navy. Sorry you wern't born when you prefer, but think of how much more time you still have on this earth than we do. Never give up on your time, it is the most precious thing there is.

  • i'd like to know who caught that guitar

  • Bands back at this time relied on nothing more than pure talent and practice.Theres no denying it.This is when rock ruled the earth. What I wouldn't give to be born in 54 instead of 74.All of these midnight special performances really show what sad state todays music is in.I hope something soon restores my faith.

  • @cycojay13 I was born in '58 and was a teenager in the 70's. You are so right, the music then was awesome, pure talent and lots of it! I still love the 70's bands the best...Cheap Trick, AC/DC, Raspberries, Bandfinger, Mott the Hoople, the list is endless...it was an awesome time to be young and see these bands live!!!

  • @Keeks4 yea i was born in 73 and god iron madden dio black sabith skid row but then they had to start the war on drugs pot was the key that brought all the music becase you write potey when your high

  • @Keeks4 I totally agree, I am only 8 years younger than you but remember the great music too (Van Halen 1, B-52's, Chic, KISS, The Police, Black Sabbath, P-Funk, Ted Nugent, ELO) and those great bands of the 60's too.

  • Bands back at this time relied on nothing more than pure talent and pratice.Theres no denying it.This is when rock ruled the earth. What I wouldn't give to be born in 54 instead of 74.All of these midnight special performances really show what sad state todays music is in.

  • "Got My KISS records out..."

  • me too!! lol

  • What year was this?

  • @Blooman27 1979
