  • Last time I was listening to this, my friend was asking if I was stoned.

I replied "Nope just hooked on heavy metal!"

  • Turn lights down low - check

    Headphones in place - check

Assume the reclining position - check

Spark the joint and inhale deeply - check (cough)

    Cue song - check

    Crank the volume - check

  • The bass in this song is out of control.

  • .. timeless

  • Love the bass line during the chorus (and the whole song). Was that Timothy B. Schmit?

  • @drmr007 the bassist is Andy Deluca, and I think he featured with Don felder in only this song.

  • @Osyran Thank You!

  • @Osyran

Actually Andy is the one who played bass on my cover of the song. The original bassist for the song is Abe Laboriel

  • @Rockmanxpr Oh, well, now I know! :) Thanks. I've been trying to find a bass tab for this song, but can't find it anywhere (copyright stuff I think). I play guitar so learning it by ear just isn't the same...hehe.

  • @drmr007

    It's Abe Laboriel

  • This is probably one of Don Felder's greatest songs, but it's nigh impossible to find anymore. Thanks a million for posting this. Now, I'll just abscond with my lochnar and enjoy the tunes.

  • @FishmanJames What a sick experience! Super jealous of that trip down memory lane.

  • @FishmanJames THAT WOULD BE FUCKING EPIC!!!!!!!

  • @FishmanJames Saw the EXACT same three movies at the Midnight Drive-in Movies. Wouldn't be a bit surprised if it were the same Drive-in on the same night. Just shy of 20 years old, the world was at my feet and my head was in the clouds....

  • @FishmanJames those are three great movies there, i bet u had a good nite.

  • @FishmanJames I watched this movie back then too, and i have been looking for it since then. Im so happy I have found it, the movie was awesome.

  • i cant find this on spotify....dammit!

  • Good fucking nyborg...

  • for YEARS you couldnt rent this movie. you could only catch it rarely on late night hbo and maybe get lucky enough to record it. I think it took almost 20 years for this movie to make it into the video clubs. then they came out with the sequel and it was the biggest let down of my life.

  • @thunderscratch66 I bought is on DVD not long ago... i love this movie

  • @thunderscratch66 the problem was the sequal was made to glorify julia strain. she beatiful but it's nice to have more than one story in a movie i think thats made the first one good

  • @cappsoutlaw

I know and the original is a classic anthology. HM 2000 doesn't hold a candle! HM with the magazine has influenced many movies over the years including Fifth element and Avatar as Cameron and Besson are fans of both sources. If you liked HM i recommend these similar movies: Akira, Ghost in The Shell, fire and Ice, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (Warriors of the Wind), Ninja Scroll, Wizards, Starchaser Legend of Orin, Wicked City, Fantastic Planet, LightYears etc.

  • @thunderscratch66

I know what you mean, i grew up with this movie since 93 when i was 12 thanks to reading TBS stating animated fantasy with an r-rating, i knew i had to tape it. I watched it with Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop and Rock and Rule, as 5 movies there ruled my world and showed me animation isn't all for kids. I did taped R&R on uncut MGM tape and Robot Carnival with VHD on uncensored rental videos and bought HM uncut first day it hit stores.

  • @thunderscratch66

I know, i saw this 18 years ago on TBS when i was 12 years old in a censored family friendly cut and loved it, i even watched Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop and Rock and Rule as well, remembered those?

  • @thunderscratch66 I heard that the delay in releasing on video was because of a copyright issue with 1 of the songs in the movie. I do not know if that is true or not, just what i heard.

  • @thunderscratch66 its true i recently bought Heavy Metal only a few years ago at Newbery Comics after my VHS wore out and looked everywhere 4 a copy. i saw the trailer for the second one and didnt even bother to watch it.

  • @dc110574 to me the closest thing to a sequel was the southpark episode "major boobage" which was a sort of giant tribute to Heavy Metal. I'm not really a southpark fan, but a good portion of that episode looks "just like" the real movie, only with alot of funny stuff added. I'd say that any fan of the movie should check that out, its a great laugh :)_

  • @thunderscratch66 lol ya im a southpark fan and ive seen that episode your totally right. the funny thing is i was watchin heavy metal the other day cuz there was severe thunderstorms in my area and nuthin much else to do haha. i dont think another movie will be ever made like that again cuz people are too impatient to hand draw a whole entire movie (besides the house at the end) like that and a lot of people dont appreciate that kind of stuff anymore

  • @thunderscratch66 I just about fell out of my chair laughing. Brilliant stuff.

  • @dc110574

Did you know James Cameron is a fan of this movie as it's one of his fave animated movies? he also likes the comic magazine as well. Both were some of the various sources he used in his new movie Avatar and you can tell in that movie there are elements of the magazine plus Den and Taarna in it as a homage. It's like he thought "i'll combine HM with Last of the Mohicans, Dune, Star Wars, Star Trek 6, Nausicaa, Princess Mononoke and Willow in one movie"

  • i got this for free by accident

  • 1 person needs to snort a few pounds of plutonium nyborg

  • feels good man...

  • why does there always have to be at least 1 dislike? i mean wtf

    fuck all the haters

  • @TheColdBeerReport well maybe some conspiracy theorist thought the dislike button was a scam cuz there was only likes. so he had to test it. at least now we have proof that it works. if there was never dislikes people would start to say its a scam of some sort.

  • this is the shittttttttt

  • I'd also add to the debate on the skill involved in this guitar solo: The skill involved here is not technical or speed.... it's feel. There are very few bands, then OR now who can convey that much feeling with their instrument. A current band I would equate with emotional playing would be both Disturbed and (I know I'll get flak for this) Nickelback (c'mon! Listen to "Never Again"). Funny that there's so much comparison to Pink Floyd, which I consider my all-time favorite band!

  • Thanks, Hellrazer! This was one of the 1st 2 cassettes I ever purchased (the other being Queen's Greatest Hits) and I've always considered this track my favorite. Felder's more well known hit from this album, Heavy Metal (Takin' A Ride) was right behind it.

I find it funny that so many people are saying this is a good song to bake to, which is, I admit, how it was used in the movie. To me, I've always thought of this song as one of the sexiest songs every written.

  • sti ques bonne ste toune la!! c come du pink floyd

  • 1 guy got a heart atack because of the orgasmic pleasure he felt while listening to this and missed the loke button :|

  • i want this music!

  • i smoked many a fat chronic blunt to this one.

  • Oh Wow, Good Nyborg!

  • I don't do drugs but i adore this movie since i was 12 back in 93 when i watched it on TBS with Vampire Hunter D, Robot Carnival, American Pop and Rock and Rule. They rocked my world! i even taped RockandRule from an uncut MGM tape at 13 as welll as the uncut Vampire Hunter D and Robot Carnival as well but HM and American Pop weren't on video. But i did bought HM on video at 15 with Akira and Ghost in The Shell and American Pop when i was 17. This movie is epic and ranks with Ninja Scroll.

  • @Johnlindsey289

    Am I right...? Or did shortly after that Cowboy Bepop show up and reinvented the standard, yet reminded us of the "past". You seem old school enough... (: early 90s... My first "adventure" into the foray of the alternative breakthrough "when Anime had something to it:"; Pioneered by Akira and your mentioned titles (later proceeded by NG:E...;

Battle Angel. <-- Orignial OMV. Three part series. (:

  • @Kieraganion

James Cameron is working on Battle Angel in 2013 besides Avatar 2 & 3 for 2014/2015 and also gonna produce and do a story for the upcoming new Heavy Metal animated movie, produce Cleopatra 3D and produce Fantastic Voyage. Heavy Metal is awesome and ranks with Akira, Ghost in The Shell, Wizards, South Park The Movie etc. in best not for kids animated movies, now films like Fifth Element and Avatar owe themselves to HM magazine since they are the closet films of being like HM Mag.

  • I was just watching the movie and the part when this song comes on made me want to listen to this and smoke a bowl. Which I'm doing now.

  • @TheCreep520 You are under arrest for suspicion of awesomeness!!

  • 1 dislike? how can it be? this is one of the best songs ever

  • mcflip22 you are a souless swine , burn in hell

  • mcflip22 you are a souless swine , burn in hell

  • some 1 needs to cover this song and let it be done right.

  • I like the part when they go "Doo doo doooooo, ooooo oooooooo"

  • Comment removed

  • My appologies, I'm trying to delete the old Video Responce but can't seem to do it...

  • this is fucking music to bake to. the awesomeness of this song can't be denied.

  • I wish I lived in the 80's. They were the best from Heavy Metal, to Miami Vice, the 80's will prob the best decade.

  • How can you not make out with this song playing in the background...or even fly an airplane with skill?

  • oh man this dope track makes me wanna light up a joint and ride a 1967 mustang on the desert at night

  • if theres one thing i know, is how to drive when im stoned!

  • @jasonkpratt Yeah man this is my favorite part of the movies ^^ Chill dude!

  • My fav on the HM soundtrack: Hellrazer12 you rock!!! Thx for the music!!

  • Who needs a video to this song!! This is better just being listened to. Thanks Hellrazer!

  • One of the best soundtracks ever assembled.

  • Typical Robot, first earth chick we see in ten years and he's gotta make a play for.

  • I listen to this song constantly in my movies playlist...FANTASTIC SONG!! Thanks for posting!! Almost sounds like something ZZ Top would do :)

  • This Movie Must Be Seen Untouched, and Uncut. Otherwise, It Is An Unholy Sacralige Only Fit For The Unclean Known As The So-Called Moral Majority.

    Long

    Live

    Heavy

    Metal!

  • @cabbievonbump

HM is kind of soft on the sex and violence, if you want harder animated stuff you should rent Urotsukidoji Legend of the Overfiend. NC-17 rated animation at it's extreme best with scenes of tentacle attacks, rape, mutilation, S&M, gore, bloody transformations, demons and a HP Lovecraft does Hustler kind of mix of horror and fantasy with erotica combine then that's the ticket.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Sir, the Moral Majority also had objections to Little Red Riding Hood, the classic book story because in one woodcut it showed a bottle, presumably wine, in the basket. That's the kind of censorship I'm against.

To the So-Called "Moral" Majority: Censor yourself all you want, and be my guest.

Let the rest of us decide on who/what/when/where/why. I might hate Rap (don't get me started), but that doesn't give me the right to censor it for others.

  • @Johnlindsey289 Is there an attempt at a plot, or is it just a series of scenes?

  • @ExosiusWoolley there's an amazing plot about the responsibilities of the terakian race vs the locnar an the natural balace of good and evil in the universe

  • @cabbievonbump Preach it brother. Give me all the sex and all the violence! Anything less is just not Heavy Metal!

  • Everytime I hear this one, I can only think of The Starship.

  • this movie ever come on tv?

  • @WCarson1993 Why? It must be seen uncut. The networks would $#@! it up in less time it takes any of us to toke some plutonium nyborg. Speaking of which, I'm out. Got some in the transmitter compartment?

  • @WCarson1993 yeah, but its usually on really late if ever.

  • @WCarson1993 I first saw it on VH1 classic back in 11th grade in 2009 the first night of spring break.

  • It almost sounds like the soundtrack from starcraft (terran). that game must have taken inspiration from this awesome movie

  • I bought this soundtrack for this one song. Amazing for an album with the likes of BOC, Cheap Trick, Nazareth and fucking SABBATH, and a Don Felder tune is the star of the show (for me).

  • Best song on the album!

  • Love this fucking movie, and love this fucking soundtrack!

    Is this on Bluray yet?

  • It doesn't get any better than this, classic song, never gets old! You can just chill to this.......

  • No dislikes yet! Is it possible?

  • Isnt there another Don Felder song on this soundtrack? That was good too.

  • @JayDeath1 takin a ride

  • just jizzed my pants

  • Fucking amazing, I loved this song ever since I was 5, which was when I first watched Heavy Metal.
