Great illustration of how much a real bastard the Master really is, Delgado helped create the character to be Professor Moriarty cause previous "evil timelords" were 2D (The Warlord) or silly (The Meddling Monk). However Ainley made him downright insane, so instead of just conquering the universe he was gonna destroy it as proof of conquest. Eric Roberts, ok, I'll argue that it was part of The Master imo. John Simms, was closer to the Ainley bit but he needed the energy to match David Tennent.
OMG, I just finished watching "The End of Time". This vid is pretty much epic in my book. You got ALL of them. Especialy the recent one. Thanks for making this, I totally needed a bit of The Master fanservice. This fits him so well. I can honestly say I'm impressed. =D
@abskwl The old master was the very textbook definition of architypal villian: Black cloak, goatee, maniacal laugh, plans and monologues. Much like this song. Unfortunately, such characters are not respected anymore (f*$k you Allan Moore!) so they had to transform the master into a wildcard nutcase.
In short he has gone from Blofeld to the Joker PS Despite this i really did like John Simm's performance, and hope to see him again :)
I've thought of another song for the Master--The Master's Song from the musical Dracula. Yes, I know the song is really about dracula, but the song is perfect for the Master. Some of the lyrics may have to be applied in a figurative sense for the Master. It may have to sung from the point of view of someone who was a follower or servant of the Master.
are you familiar with the movie the Great Mouse Dectective? There's a song I really like called The World's Greatest Criminal Mind, sung by Ratigan and his cronies. I think you should make a Master-themed video of that song, particularly using the old episodes. The hamminess of ratigan is just perfect for the master, especially Roger Delgrado and Anthony Ainley.
Here's one shot where the Third Doctor is getting tied up. What's going on there? Has the Third Doctor fallen into a trap or was kidnapped and someone is finishing up the job to keep him detained? And what episode is that from? I am still watching episodes featuring the First Doctor.
I liked all of them. Roger Delgado and John Simm are quite similar, i like Roger for his calming humour, and *charity*, while Kohn Simms, all smiles and cherfulness, kind of like the Lucifer in Constantine (2005), which one of my friends think i am with my attitude, but enough of that. Wonder if he'll cone back? I hope so.
Roger Delgado was the best master ever! He had that kind of James Bond villain/Count Dracula look that was perfect for the master. He also didn't always were the same black costume in every episode. He dressed with style.
After the current series RTD will be moving on to other projects leaving Steven Moffet in charge. Don't worry, the Master will of course return but probably later rather than sooner so his reappearance will be more impactive.
I was thinking of doing this one to the Master myself before I saw this. I love your video. If I do one I will credit yours as being first. Great video by the way. Five stars.
From the start this was excellent, two VERY appropriate quotes, coupled with all the actor's names, and the first visual being the Master's first appearance. Then it got better:
Each clip showed a different part of his personality, the cuts accelerating with the music and the clips itself matching with the lyrics, effectively displaying the destructive enigma that is the Master, all succeeding in being very creepy and entertaining.
Brilliant! :D I've got to agree, I did like Ainley skipping during that one line, and the laugh at the end - but the new stuff fits perfectly. And the JELLY BABIES! XD
So glad you updated this! Some great new moments, like the jelly babies, Jacobi looking tearful, and Simm's smile on "I'm lying through my teeth." Just two things from the first version I was sad to see go: Ainley skipping during "does his job but does it happily" -- the rhythm on that was perfect -- and Tom Baker shrugging off Ainley's arm over his shoulder. But I know something had to go to make room for the new Masters, plus I see that you've still got the old version up, so it's all okay!
Great vid, but I'm biased towards the original. My favourite bit with Ainley laughing malevolently in the aerial control room at the Pharos project has gone. Mwah ha ha!
Wow, you not only updated the vid, you actually improved on it! Especially with the jellybabies. And the end quote. And the parallels between 'old' and 'new' Masters like the cut from Delgado to Simm at 1:04. And did I mention it's completely brilliant?
I loved the first version... but you did a really good job adding in the new bits that I only have one little complaint: you didn't leave in the scene of him skipping across the tiles. It was the best part.

I LOVE IT!!
i prefer the old Master tho - the new one is more of a mix of the doctor and the master - trying to be humorous and evil but failing in both.
The old Master was better cuz you actually feared him.

Ainley was the best Master IMHO

i agree!
he had a hard time filling the shoes of Delago after he died but he played the Master awesomely, maybe even better than the original

No no...Ainley was fantastic...But you can't beat the sinister charm of Delgado...

Terror of the autons is available only on videotape--how did you manage to post a clip of it on your video?
harrietamidala1691 3 years ago
Recorded it onto DVD and then ripped it onto my computer. Compiling the clips took 10x as long as editing the video.
HomicidalNightingale 3 years ago
and do you own all of the episodes that appear in this video?
I also found out that Terror of the Autons is available on iTunes.

It's from Terror of the Autons. The Master's 1st Ep. The Master is controling the plastic in the phone cord making it strangle the Doc .

Ainley was the most fun to watch, but I think the best was either Delgado or Pratt.
