That'll happen! This time of year they can get pretty aggressive. Was it a willow leaf spinner bait? I've picked up walleye with one of those while fishing for bass.

Casting SR 5 Rapala Shad Raps in whatever color the locale bait fish are. Around here the walleyes gorge themselves with thread-fin shad so a natural shad patterned bait is a logical choice. However, other patterns have also produced under other conditions. To catch walleyes in the river you're going to want to find some structure that creates a current break in the flow. What you're looking for is something like a rock that has some slack water behind it where the....
...fish can take advantage of a natural ambush point to jump out and consume baitfish that hit that quick water and become disorientated on their way around. Anytime you see a current seem in the water I'd cast just along the outside of the edge of where the quick water meets the slow water. Walleyes will take advantage of these opportunities. Of course you can always read up on it on our website.
