@aPinar1 50mm lenses are good for street photos, too. Just keep in mind that, as with any fixed-length lens, you won't have the convenience of simply zooming in and out to frame your shots the way you want. You'll have to physically move the camera around the subject. Personally I do prefer that approach.

This is one of the last Nikon lenses that actually still has an aperture ring. It will work with just about every Nikon SLR --film or digital-- made in the last 30 years. True; it does have a cheap and plasticky feel to it, but most of today's cameras are cheap and plasticky themselves.

The fast (big aperture) 50 mm prime lenses used to be the standard kit lenses back in the film days. Maybe that is why most photography from back then looks so much better that today's over-saturated crap.

f1.8 ís not a good choice for portrait from the distance. u easily get out of focus. U can see the photos with the F1.8 are not sharp. I think F2.8 is better

there is an 35 mm and a 50mm in the store, both are nikkor and both are 1.8 f , the 35 mm is 20 cad more expensive than the 55 mm even tho the 55mm have better construction quality, the price is not really important, i have a D3100 wich ido not have a full frame sensor, so a 35 mm would be like a 52.5 and the 55 mm would act as an 75 mm, do u think that 75 mm would be too much, will i have to go too far from the subject? which one would u buy?
