My first car that I bought here in Japan was a Hi-Lux! Absolutely GREAT car! Had massive monster tyres on it and I still have the set of spot lights and roof rack from the car. Unfortunately I don't have the car anymore, but would definitely own another one!
Ok, so lets see here. They take a new truck, right off the assembly line and modify it. Why not take a used truck with 150+ thousand miles and make the same mods then try?
hey guys, i have the same hilux, 2007 tubro diesel 3.0 D-4D, i was wondering if anyone knew where i could get the same FENDER FLARES for my truck or atleast wider than the ones they come with, for those of you who don't know what fender flares are, its the part the guy rips right out of the car at approximately 0:23 to 0:26, please get to me asap
After these guys change these trucks around the only thing "Toyota" about them is that little emblem on the front grill. Sorry this is no testament as to how good or bad Toyota trucks are though I do think they are cool.
@farmer1ab Unfortunately, that assertion is not entirely correct. After about one minute of research I found this- "The trucks were of course heavily modified for the job, adapted by Icelandic Toyota 4×4 conversion specialists, Arctic Trucks, for the month-long expedition. But their 3.0 D-4D diesel engine remained ENTIRELY unchanged further proving the Hilux’s legendary Quality, Durability and Reliability." Yes, it is a testament to good a Toyota is. :)
So far I know we have the old pickup which look almost like hilux back in the 70s and 80s.
The early 90s we still have what Toyota called it "Pickup" no actual name and to mid 90s the Tacoma and T100 were introduce . As of right now only the Tacoma and Tundra. We have nothing like that. :(
@AndyRoddick969 there is no model made for US hilux has been produce since 1964 they all are diesel engines, this model for example is a 3.0 powerstroke diesel, this truck is maily used in afriica australia north europe and central and south america, back in 1976 to 1979 hi lux was sold in US and it was a succes, but the later version rs5 but a gas engine most were V6 2,4 liter then 1996 we had tacoma and 2002 the tundra both built in US I own a hilux1994, i hope I answered your questions

@jeep4jeep : you need to open your mind more. ALL car manufacturers has recalls, but most of them don't get publicized like Toyota. Think of our economic situation; media spreads the word for recalls on Toyota but not on American companies because media supports the American gov't, and American gov't wants you to buy MORE American made things, so that way it will support our economy over here.
Yes they do get publicised - which is why the explorer shredding it's Fire-stone tyres was on all the news, same thing with the cruise control issue or some of Ford's SUV's, and BMW in Europe - TODAY - have just announced a recall on all 5, 6 and 7 Series cars manufactured back as far as to 2002, because of a braking issue.
So yes - it does get publicised, it's just Toyota's seem to turn a regular car into a KAMIKAZE.
@jeep4jeep : I chose the wrong words.. I should have said.. Publicized through the Media. In the last 2 years, they bombed on Toyota via Media vs. any other car manufacturer. If you know anything about economics, our economy in the U.S. is weak right now, even though its very slowly getting back on its feet. But the reason why is Americans buy so much Made in "Other country" stuff..
@jeep4jeep : And the media focusing on a Japanese company, publicing all their recalls, they are just trying to push Americans to buy more "Made in USA" stuff. Americans buying Made in China, Japan, Germany stuff doesn't help out our GDP, but the other country's GDP. Thats the reason why our economy is weak.. So if you put two + two together, in the big picture, everything makes sense.
@jeep4jeep yes Toyota should ban the non-Toyota affiliated 100% American company that designed, PATENTED, and manufactured the recalled gas pedals. Instead all their cars should use the superior Denso gas pedals. But, you know, imports are forced to use American parts even shared by Jeep and Cadillacs, which also had to recall the exact same pedals.
@jeep4jeep There was a recall this year for sticky Chrylser (including Jeep models) accelerator pedals here in North America. You guys in the UK are lucky that vehicle manufacturers are not forced to have that made in America supplier content.
@jeep4jeep Oh how wrong you are... and please do explain how I'm too ignorant to one one when I attended MIT at age 11, have a 184 IQ, member of Prometheus and Pi Societies, Summa Cum Laude from U of Washington, Stanford, UCLA, and Yale... hold on, I need to get the popcorn for this one.
Wow, way to be the Omega male and take the immediate submissive defensive role.
Oh, and BTW, I own an AEV Brute Jeep (Google it), in addition to my TLCs, Unimog, 2 Pinzgauers, 2 TLC Icons, Def 110, & G55 AMG.
@jeep4jeep ...and no, I'm not bitter or angry, I'm as happy as can be, my life is fucking awesome. And I didn't insult you, I called you a fanboy, that's a fact, you are a fanboy. You only sing praises about Jeep and put down everything else despite not owning anything else. Furthermore, people like myself who are vastly more experienced, intelligent and accomplished that you, and own a what's what list of the best 4x4's in history actually know what we're talking about, yet you act the expert.
@verasforzza You were happy, till you got into the internet surfing poon :D now you are just the rest of us losers, the difference is , you won't admit to it, that makes you a double whammy loser.
@jeep4jeep You live in the UK, not exactly 4x4 mecca. I live in SoCal, and I'm 10hrs from Rubicon, Mojave, Baja, Death Vally, Zion, Grand Canyon, Moab... all some of the world's best 4x4 spots. You own a POS Jeep, and haven't owned much else. I've own(ed) Jeeps, H1, Unimogs, Pinzgauers, Land Cruisers, Patrols, RR/LR, G Wagon. I shoot expeditions for Nat Geo (climbing Everest, Antarctica, Gobi, Sahara, Amazon) and the only vehicle used are TLC's. NO ONE USES JEEP, they're inferior - fact.
@barthoedemaker Yeah ok dumbass. I have a 1985 mercedes-benz 300d turbo desiel with over 600,000 miles on it and it still runs like a champ. Never breaks down. Lets see your piece of shit toyota do that.
@snowmister2 Prove it. That's 24K miles/year, highly unlikely.
And Toyota IS king on reliability, I do expeditions with Nat Geo all over the world. Climbed Everest, Patagonia, North and South Poles, the Gobi, you name it. The ONLY vehicle use due to 4x4 ability and reliability is Toyota.
Even if you do have a Mercedes with 600K miles, those aren't 4x4 miles which are 4x more punishing than road miles. I have a 1977 FJ40 with 450K+ miles most of which is 4x4 and in the antarctic... and others.
@snowmister2 No, that's the douchebag's way of backing down and trying to save face. Like I said, that many miles on a vehicle that's only 25 years old is extremely unlikely. It means you'd have to drive 24K miles a year, 2K a month in that car alone (most people drive 10K per year), and if you're driving that much, then something will eventually break or need rebuilding. Toyota is famous for being the world's most reliable and well traveled vehicle, and 600K is a lot for even a legendary TLC.
@verasforzza So what if its unlikely? thats how many miles it has. And its never broken down, when I get to 1 million miles and your piece of shit gets to 1 million miles, we'll see how much you've had to empty your pockets to fix it.
@snowmister2 You're just a douchebag troll. What you fail to understand is that I'm wealthy beyond your dreams, ergo I can afford the best and I buy only the best in everything... when it come to 4x4's I drive Toyota, they're the best.
But hey, feel free to keep calling my fleet of custom TLC's which are each worth between $75K and $190K and out perform most compacts in mpg, mos luxury sport coupes in acceleration, and everything in the dirt. I'm sure you 85 Mercedes POS is a real cherry.
@snowmister2 ...If you're going to buy a Mercedes, at least be a man about it and get a real Benz like my G55 AMG, Brabus E V12, and.Unimog Doka.
Your Benz won't reach 1 million miles, you're lying about your mileage, now you're adding delusional to the list. And if one of my TLC's did reach 1 million miles (it won't because I'm not delusional, and I'm rich so I own too many cars to accumulate that many miles on a single vehicle), the cost will be almost nothing, Toyota is nothing to maintain.
@snowmister2 Keep up the lies little 16 year old douche. You don't know jack shit about cars, maintainability, cost, insurance, etc. Your parents pay for everything, you own nothing. For a car to reach a million miles (by the way this has only happened a handful of times in history, and the car is bought by the manufacturer for their museum), you'd have to rebuild the engine at least twice. So excluding all other upkeep, it would be cheaper to just buy a new car.
@verasforzza You don't know that. Any of it. Stfu Mr. Toyota is the shit. And I know a lot more than it may seem, and no it wouldn't be cheaper to just buy a new car as mine NEVER EVER breaks down. And I will, Thanks.
@snowmister2 Sure kiddy poo, wow, who would have thought that a little douchebag teeny bop would be a know it all. I can't wait until your POS breaks down and you sit on the side of the road crying.
And yes, buying a new car will be much cheaper than replacing an engine on that relic, buy hey, you're 16, you're an expert on this stuff.
Have a nice life fuck stain. Keep flipp'n those burgers.
@snowmister2 Wrong yet again jackass. I'd say anything I damn well please to your pimple infested face. I'm 6'1" and a former World Champion athlete, and I still rock/mountain climb so I'm built solid. I tell it like it is and love putting little whiny brats in their place.
And no, I'm not even close to 40, but older and much smarter than you. You're 16, ergo you're a virgin with cars. I own a collection of exotic supercars and hand build/wrench them myself. I've driven on all 7 continents...
@snowmister2 ... I've raced the Baja 1000 and 500, I've raced Rally in my STI's, and guide 4x4 adventure expeditions all over the world. I know a ton about cars, you know just about nothing. You don't even have your HS diploma yet, I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Yale, Stanford, UCLA, and U of Washington, and some of my degrees are in areas such as Architectural Engineering, (Astro)Physics, and Art & Design. My dad and I would take apart his Ferrari 250 GT. So keep arguing chump.
@verasforzza and it makes you feel good to tell me off on the internet? You can be lieing for all anyone knows. I am 6'0 and what are you a world champion for? Ping pong? And whos whining?
@gavallan2020 If this is a joke, most Asian countries and middle eastern countries runs toyota's cause they are reliable and parts are cheap to get. Check top gear hilux destruction: under water, caravans fall on it, fire, even building demolition, still it starts, that's TOYOTA
@barthoedemaker any car with a decent battery will still start. Most asian countries use them because thats what is available. Im sure any jeep could do this without all that extra bullshit.
It’s undeniable that Navara of these specs is just superior to many others. However, what it lacks may be a rich pedigree in pickup truck. If there are u turns to beat, there’s a Triton. In the event of a mountain to conquer, there’s a Hilux.
@jonjon50088 most of the frame, engine, body and driveline are the same, they just added a beefy lift kit, re-geared the transfer case it looks like, and gave it some big-ass tires.
@jonjon50088 Because it IS still a Hilux. Still has a Hilux chassis, engine and most everything else. It's just been raised, had a gear reduction to accommodate the huge tires, and a few other mods you'd do to any 4x4 expedition vehicle. I have an Arctic Trucks vehicle, my brother as well. 85% of the modifications are so that the huge tires will fit, it's still very much a Toyota Land Cruiser/Hilux.

Driving a truck with what appears to be stock axles and a complicated fuel injected engine across the most dangerous landmass on earth just doesn't seem like a good idea.
@blah666ful It's a Toyota, it can easily handle the challenge. Toyota has made it's name by going place where no other vehicle can or will venture. They're built WAY beyond what is required so that even a stock TLC is much more capable than a highly modded truck from any other company, so with the upgrades to this vehicle, it will have an easy time of it.
@verasforzza Toyota appeared well and truly after all the inhospitable areas of the world had been opened up by other vehicle makes or types. The rest is just marketing. There is no place that a Toyota can go that any other competent 4x4 cannot. The upgrades you mention are in fact modifications ie not factory options.
@khanumam I've been to both Poles, it's not some flat icy road moron. There is no road for one, the average temp without windchill is around -40F to -50F (at these temps steel can be shattered like glass). They hardly show anything, most of it is giant fields of razor-sharp ice that can shred a steel ship. That was a frozen river or the Arctic Ocean. If it was so easy, then there would have already been dozens of vehicles to go; only Toyota has succeeded, no other 4x4 even comes close.
@shifttradition No, it's still very much a Toyota. Modifying the body, suspension, and tires is par for any off road expedition. The engine and the core of the vehicle is still Toyota. There really wasn't much done to these trucks, much less than what any descent Jeep requires to do trails like Rubicon and Moab.
@verasforzza they only cut apart the chassis and extended it and changed the whole drive train out. the only thing thats still toyota is the same is the engine, but the engine alone doesnt make a toyota a toyota, my point was a stock hilux wouldnt survive. i could build a monster truck with a bmw engine and go do that too but i wouldnt dare claim it was still a bmw. go watch Land Rover videos on them making artic crosses with nothing but larger tires.
@shifttradition Wrong. The mods were so that they could make the journey quickly (they were practically rally driving across the ice), and as preventative measures. Stock Land Cruisers (a Hilux is a Land Cruiser with a truck body) can and do operate in the Arctic and Antarctic.
No, LR's haven't done Arctic crosses with just bigger tires. They've traveled in the Arctic circle, but not to the Poles, and not to Antarctica which is worse.
I have a LR Def 110, it's nothing compared to my TLC's.
@ieribal Ummm, no. There wasn't that much done to the vehicle, basically a body mod to allow for bigger tires. You can actually put those tires on without the mods, but they wanted to retain the low center of gravity.
Yep Toyota only sells their wimpy toyota trucks here in Texas, we deserve better, they sell trucks that are car like, carpet inside, all the frills of a california wimpy LA type pretty truck that if you don't wash it every 5 minutes, it will start crying.
@edarotag84 You clearly have no clue about life in California. Ca is where car/truck customization was invented, when it comes to trucks/4x4's we're second to none. We've got the Rubicon trail, countless other world class off-roading areas, the Mojave, Death Vally, Baja is close, even Moab and the Grand Canyon are only a day's drive.. I have a 4x4 collection that you'd give your left nut to have, and all were custom built in Ca like my 2 TLC Icon's.
u can just go at top speed there without getting stopped

supasupreemxx 1 year ago
@supasupreemxx
So yes - it does get publicised, it's just Toyota's seem to turn a regular car into a KAMIKAZE.
jeep4jeep 1 year ago
@jeep4jeep : I chose the wrong words.. I should have said.. Publicized through the Media. In the last 2 years, they bombed on Toyota via Media vs. any other car manufacturer. If you know anything about economics, our economy in the U.S. is weak right now, even though its very slowly getting back on its feet. But the reason why is Americans buy so much Made in "Other country" stuff..
supasupreemxx 1 year ago
@jeep4jeep : And the media focusing on a Japanese company, publicing all their recalls, they are just trying to push Americans to buy more "Made in USA" stuff. Americans buying Made in China, Japan, Germany stuff doesn't help out our GDP, but the other country's GDP. Thats the reason why our economy is weak.. So if you put two + two together, in the big picture, everything makes sense.
supasupreemxx 1 year ago
@jeep4jeep yes Toyota should ban the non-Toyota affiliated 100% American company that designed, PATENTED, and manufactured the recalled gas pedals. Instead all their cars should use the superior Denso gas pedals. But, you know, imports are forced to use American parts even shared by Jeep and Cadillacs, which also had to recall the exact same pedals.
sunnycatch 1 year ago
@sunnycatch
Not seen any accelerator pedal recall on Jeep or Chrysler in the UK.
jeep4jeep 1 year ago
@jeep4jeep There was a recall this year for sticky Chrylser (including Jeep models) accelerator pedals here in North America. You guys in the UK are lucky that vehicle manufacturers are not forced to have that made in America supplier content.
sunnycatch 1 year ago
@jeep4jeep That's because you're a Jeep fanboy. Some people like crap, that's your God given right.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza
Nothing to do with it, and I'm glad you don't like Jeeps, because you're clearly too ignorant to own one.
You show your true intellect by immediately using fowl language and throwing insults, "well done" ..... ooooooh i'm so intimidated by you, NOT.
Now go and find the nearest rock and crawl under it.....
You're just bitter and angry, again which is why u resort to insults and abuse rather than facts. (NO REPLY NEEDED - YOU'RE NOT WORTHY OF MY TIME)
jeep4jeep 1 year ago
@jeep4jeep Oh how wrong you are... and please do explain how I'm too ignorant to one one when I attended MIT at age 11, have a 184 IQ, member of Prometheus and Pi Societies, Summa Cum Laude from U of Washington, Stanford, UCLA, and Yale... hold on, I need to get the popcorn for this one.
Wow, way to be the Omega male and take the immediate submissive defensive role.
Oh, and BTW, I own an AEV Brute Jeep (Google it), in addition to my TLCs, Unimog, 2 Pinzgauers, 2 TLC Icons, Def 110, & G55 AMG.
verasforzza 1 year ago

@barthoedemaker Fuck you, At least my car doesn't run away on its own. At least my cars interior isnt made out of melted down McDonald toys.
brentsrx7 1 year ago
@brentsrx7 Neither is Toyota.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@barthoedemaker Yeah ok dumbass. I have a 1985 mercedes-benz 300d turbo desiel with over 600,000 miles on it and it still runs like a champ. Never breaks down. Lets see your piece of shit toyota do that.
snowmister2 1 year ago
@snowmister2 Prove it. That's 24K miles/year, highly unlikely.
I have a 1977 FJ40 with 450K+ miles most of which is 4x4 and in the antarctic... and others.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza well if neither of us have broken down then we should just agree to disagree.
snowmister2 1 year ago
@snowmister2 No, that's the douchebag's way of backing down and trying to save face. Like I said, that many miles on a vehicle that's only 25 years old is extremely unlikely. It means you'd have to drive 24K miles a year, 2K a month in that car alone (most people drive 10K per year), and if you're driving that much, then something will eventually break or need rebuilding. Toyota is famous for being the world's most reliable and well traveled vehicle, and 600K is a lot for even a legendary TLC.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza So what if its unlikely? thats how many miles it has. And its never broken down, when I get to 1 million miles and your piece of shit gets to 1 million miles, we'll see how much you've had to empty your pockets to fix it.
snowmister2 1 year ago
@snowmister2 You're just a douchebag troll. What you fail to understand is that I'm wealthy beyond your dreams, ergo I can afford the best and I buy only the best in everything... when it come to 4x4's I drive Toyota, they're the best.
But hey, feel free to keep calling my fleet of custom TLC's which are each worth between $75K and $190K and out perform most compacts in mpg, mos luxury sport coupes in acceleration, and everything in the dirt. I'm sure you 85 Mercedes POS is a real cherry.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@snowmister2 ...If you're going to buy a Mercedes, at least be a man about it and get a real Benz like my G55 AMG, Brabus E V12, and.Unimog Doka.
Your Benz won't reach 1 million miles, you're lying about your mileage, now you're adding delusional to the list. And if one of my TLC's did reach 1 million miles (it won't because I'm not delusional, and I'm rich so I own too many cars to accumulate that many miles on a single vehicle), the cost will be almost nothing, Toyota is nothing to maintain.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@snowmister2 Keep up the lies little 16 year old douche. You don't know jack shit about cars, maintainability, cost, insurance, etc. Your parents pay for everything, you own nothing. For a car to reach a million miles (by the way this has only happened a handful of times in history, and the car is bought by the manufacturer for their museum), you'd have to rebuild the engine at least twice. So excluding all other upkeep, it would be cheaper to just buy a new car.
Have fun in school tomorrow.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza You don't know that. Any of it. Stfu Mr. Toyota is the shit. And I know a lot more than it may seem, and no it wouldn't be cheaper to just buy a new car as mine NEVER EVER breaks down. And I will, Thanks.
snowmister2 1 year ago
@snowmister2 Sure kiddy poo, wow, who would have thought that a little douchebag teeny bop would be a know it all. I can't wait until your POS breaks down and you sit on the side of the road crying.
And yes, buying a new car will be much cheaper than replacing an engine on that relic, buy hey, you're 16, you're an expert on this stuff.
Have a nice life fuck stain. Keep flipp'n those burgers.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Lol you would never say any of that to my face you POS, I bet you are 40 and live with your mom thats why you don't post your age on yt.
snowmister2 1 year ago
@snowmister2 Wrong yet again jackass. I'd say anything I damn well please to your pimple infested face. I'm 6'1" and a former World Champion athlete, and I still rock/mountain climb so I'm built solid. I tell it like it is and love putting little whiny brats in their place.
And no, I'm not even close to 40, but older and much smarter than you. You're 16, ergo you're a virgin with cars. I own a collection of exotic supercars and hand build/wrench them myself. I've driven on all 7 continents...
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza I admit that I'm may not be as smart as you, but all your claims are unverifiable, WTF the way you describe you must be sub-human :D

It’s undeniable that Navara of these specs is just superior to many others. However, what it lacks may be a rich pedigree in pickup truck. If there are u turns to beat, there’s a Triton. In the event of a mountain to conquer, there’s a Hilux.

@jonjon50088 still a toyota engine
theguynumber9 1 year ago
@jonjon50088 man, its just a taller hilux.....
predator5723 1 year ago
@jonjon50088 most of the frame, engine, body and driveline are the same, they just added a beefy lift kit, re-geared the transfer case it looks like, and gave it some big-ass tires.
kevinsupra90 1 year ago
@jonjon50088 Because it IS still a Hilux. Still has a Hilux chassis, engine and most everything else. It's just been raised, had a gear reduction to accommodate the huge tires, and a few other mods you'd do to any 4x4 expedition vehicle. I have an Arctic Trucks vehicle, my brother as well. 85% of the modifications are so that the huge tires will fit, it's still very much a Toyota Land Cruiser/Hilux.

Driving a truck with what appears to be stock axles and a complicated fuel injected engine across the most dangerous landmass on earth just doesn't seem like a good idea.
blah666ful 1 year ago
@blah666ful It's a Toyota, it can easily handle the challenge. Toyota has made it's name by going place where no other vehicle can or will venture. They're built WAY beyond what is required so that even a stock TLC is much more capable than a highly modded truck from any other company, so with the upgrades to this vehicle, it will have an easy time of it.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza Toyota appeared well and truly after all the inhospitable areas of the world had been opened up by other vehicle makes or types. The rest is just marketing. There is no place that a Toyota can go that any other competent 4x4 cannot. The upgrades you mention are in fact modifications ie not factory options.
serepx 1 year ago
@serepx Wrong. I can name hundreds of places that Toyota went first., and dozens where Toyota can go and others cannot.

southsudanvoice 1 year ago
you mind telling me how you call that conquering the south pole? no real off obstacles to climb just a flat snow-icy road
khanumam 1 year ago
@khanumam I've been to both Poles, it's not some flat icy road moron. There is no road for one, the average temp without windchill is around -40F to -50F (at these temps steel can be shattered like glass). They hardly show anything, most of it is giant fields of razor-sharp ice that can shred a steel ship. That was a frozen river or the Arctic Ocean. If it was so easy, then there would have already been dozens of vehicles to go; only Toyota has succeeded, no other 4x4 even comes close.
verasforzza 1 year ago

TrangulumAustrale 1 year ago
you cant even call that a toyota anymore, its been completely cut apart and beefed up.
shifttradition 1 year ago
@shifttradition No, it's still very much a Toyota. Modifying the body, suspension, and tires is par for any off road expedition. The engine and the core of the vehicle is still Toyota. There really wasn't much done to these trucks, much less than what any descent Jeep requires to do trails like Rubicon and Moab.
verasforzza 1 year ago
@verasforzza they only cut apart the chassis and extended it and changed the whole drive train out. the only thing thats still toyota is the same is the engine, but the engine alone doesnt make a toyota a toyota, my point was a stock hilux wouldnt survive. i could build a monster truck with a bmw engine and go do that too but i wouldnt dare claim it was still a bmw. go watch Land Rover videos on them making artic crosses with nothing but larger tires.
shifttradition 1 year ago
@shifttradition Wrong. The mods were so that they could make the journey quickly (they were practically rally driving across the ice), and as preventative measures. Stock Land Cruisers (a Hilux is a Land Cruiser with a truck body) can and do operate in the Arctic and Antarctic.
No, LR's haven't done Arctic crosses with just bigger tires. They've traveled in the Arctic circle, but not to the Poles, and not to Antarctica which is worse.
I have a LR Def 110, it's nothing compared to my TLC's.
verasforzza 1 year ago
Even my corolla can go to the South Pole if it was heavily modified as this. Come on now.
ieribal 1 year ago
@ieribal Ummm, no. There wasn't that much done to the vehicle, basically a body mod to allow for bigger tires. You can actually put those tires on without the mods, but they wanted to retain the low center of gravity.
