It's actually a threatened species at the moment, and I'm afraid they are far more boring than headcrabs or whatever other fictional things they remind you of.

They're hermit crabs that no longer require a shell. They climb trees in search of food, or sometimes get into garbage cans for human food.

Like any other creature, they would only harm a human in self defense or hunger. So long as you don't promote such behavior, you'll be fine.
