  • I've got a 1977 John Deere spit fire and yes it is a 77 because it was from summer 77 it is the 78 model thought I love it to death the thing is fast enough for me I'm 13 and I am doin some work to it I might be gettin another one and possibly modding it making a mountain sled and bigger motor long track and tundra or Yamaha vmax pogo suspension I recon it will rip Cus there light

  • Whats the top speed?

  • @Molsen1024 I've had the speedo showing an indicated 74-76 mph under the most ideal conditions, but I've never GPS'd it and you really can't trust snowmobile speedometers to be very accurate. It really dosn't feel any faster on top end than a standard Trailfire 440. However, it would blow away a stock one in acceleration.

  • What are the pipes off? Cool.

  • @dooalittledippsy It had the pipes when I bought it and I think they are from a Suzuki Fury though they appear to have been modified and there is no silencers on them. It's kinda loud.

  • wow, i grew up on trailfires and i never knew that they could be nice let alone fast. I recently got a '83 liquifire and im trying to get it going for this winter. great to see people actually modifying the old jd sleds and not going to a cat or polaris like everybody else. do you have any clue what the exhaust came off of and what would need done to the carbs as far as rejetting goes to make it run right?

  • TwoStrokePower, I can't take credit for the mods as I bought this sled already modified. I know the pipes are from a Suzuki Fury. I'm not sure where the builder found the dual carb intake, but apparently they are quite rare. The carbs are just Mikuni VM30s and I've never taken the time to check what the jetting set up is. The carburetion feels very good, however I'm still playing around with the clutching because I don't think I'm getting the full potential out of the sled yet.

  • yea theres a 340 spitfire its a 72 on kijiji thinking about it big time

  • @cdtank1 John Deere didn't start building the Spitfire until 1978, so the seller must have made a mistake in the listing. The Spitfires are real fun little sleds, but look the track over very carefully before you buy it as they tracks are the weak spot and it's almost to find a replacement track for a Spit.

  • This is 350ccm? This sound is sounds of 350ccm engine :)

  • @MrKIKIN11 It's actually a fan cooled Kawasaki 440cc engine. It's essentially a stock JD Trailfire engine, but with twin Mikuni 32mm carbs installed and dual pipes with stingers (no mufflers). Thanks for your message.

  • Nice John Deere! Looks Fast! I took my friend's Liquifire for test drive and it was fast comfy sled. Have fun with yours!

  • That is a pretty sweet sled you have there.

  • it still goes fast....nice machine

  • nice nice i always wanted a john deere sled

  • Thanks, cdtank1. It's a fun sled. The JD sleds were great machines in their time and parts are still fairly easy to find for most models, so if you happen upon a JD in decent shape, go for it
