Actually it's Philosophers stone. The book (which is older than the film) was titled that, by the author, who is British. It was changed to Sorcerers stone for you Americans. I have no idea why, perhaps you don't know what philospy means! :P (jk)

I'm American, and though I would have been fine with the British title, I can understand why it was changed. Americans tend to not usually think of the word, "philosopher", in a sense that has to do with alchemy- or anything magical, really.
